  • thank you for the advice. I can never cut my rabbits nails, I have to normally take them to the vets and that's a pain.

  • you gonna clip the spaghetti and its gonna go flying in rabbits eyes!!!! fool

  • Omg!!! Ma bunny has long nails and i cant seem to get him to ease when im trying to cut his nails.. its pretty long and im afraid it might cause injuries if its not trimmed.. He's pretty wild.. age 3 this year.. can i try by covering his eyes with towel and perform it? And how deep should i cut it?

  • @Babylia69 If you can pick you rabbit up without too much stress, go ahead and do the towel way. This bunny in my video here is extremely wild. He SCREAMs and bites if I try to pick him up. So I trim is nails this way. When trimming only clip the ends below the quick. If your bunny is white, you'll see the quick under the nail is pink. Don't cut that. It will bleed and hurt! Just snip the ends.

  • what if you get his fur?

  • My rabbit is very smart and very wild. She will not even let you try to pick her up–she was like this before she was spayed, but when she went in for the surgery, they mishandled her and she broke one of her spine vertebrae. If you give her treats, she will take them and run away. The breeder suggested flipping her over but I definitely can't now. She is a little disabled now. Any suggestions?

  • @Mrb1b2b3b4 Your bunny is going to need lots and lots of time to recover from her trauma and trust people again. The bunny in this video also won't let me pick him up without considerable stress. You could try teaching your bun to station on a mat as I'm doing here and giving her slow to eat treats in a bowl like oats. Make the mat the most wonderful place ever! Nothing bad can ever happen to her there. Gradually teach her to trust being picked up and handled. Go to clickerbunny. com for more.

  • Thank you for the advice, my daugther has a lop ear rabbit. He is almost six months ans his nails are pretty bad. We were considering taking him to the vet to do the trimming for us but just the visit will cost $60.00. I am going to try your technique because he is a cutie but does not like to be handle.

  • this would be great for my rabbit except she doesnt like many treats. ive tried raisins, banana, apple but nothing really makes her wanna seek out the treats or do good stuff to recieve them.. also, my rabbit is an exact lookalike of ur rabbit in this video, but ive never been sure of her breed, do u know what breed philippe is?

her nails are getting so bad that i was considering one of those nail filers (an expensive, quiet one)..she trusts me but wont let me touch her nails at all :(

  • @BananaQueen92 Have you tried dried cranberry? Or rolled oats? If your rabbit will let you handle her, you can also just do it the old fashioned way and clip her nails while holding her on your lap. Sometimes it helps to wrap the rabbit in a towel too. Philippe is part dwarf rabbit, but I don't know what type his mother is. I have to clip his nails this way because he won't let me pick him up.

  • @thistlemiss she lets me pick her up, but she kicks violently when i come near her back feet with clippers (front feet seem to be fine?). she lays in my lap comfortably all the time, she trusts me, shes just scared of her back feet being clipped.

in store, they said my Alaska (my bunny) was a netherland dwarf, but ive never been sure.

havent tried dried cranberry, though she definitely liked rolled oats, but im not sure if likes it enough to be a treat.

im lucky to have such a happy bunny :)

  • Excellent! Thank was very helpful indeed!

My young rabbit is VERY lively and cutting his nails is a scarey job...

  • Im too scared to clip my bunnys nais so i let the vets do it :]

  • how do you trim the nails on his hind foot? do i have to slide his foot out?

  • THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

  • what if you cut to short and reach the quick

  • @am24dog It will hurt the rabbit and he won't want to work on this anymore for awhile. You may have to start the desensitization process over again from the beginning. But you can get it back. White bunnies have light claws. It's easy to see the quick and I only take the tips off anyway.

  • what treats are you giving the rabbit?

  • @gegele40 You have to be careful not to give too many sweets but my buns love dried cranberries (cut into 4ths), banana chips broken into little pieces, fresh lettuce, carrot, apple, oats

  • @thistlemiss

I was told by my vet to not give my rabbit any fruits due to the sugar content?

  • @gegele40 Yes. You have to be careful not to give too much. Cut tiny tiny pieces. I've never had much problem with it.

  • @thistlemiss

    okay, thank you so much!

  • Help me my rabbit is so frearce from me and he run away when i go near him.....

Any help please or treats i should give him??

  • @KnowTheBone and he is dwarf lionhead

  • @KnowTheBone The bunny in this video is also very fierce. He won't let me pick him up still. But he likes targeting this mat and will even jump up on my lap onto the mat as long as he doesn't feel I'm going to catch him. Just be patient. Go very slowly. Each day sit quietly near your bunny and wait. If he comes near you, slowly give him an amazing treat. Don't force him or break his trust. Eventually he'll come around. If you always mean good things for him.

  • i tryed this but he ran away and then i did it again the next day he started running away Again the third day.. YEAH he ran away again but at the afternoon I did it So happy no his nails aint so long as it was THANKS This Video Helped ALOT

  • @shahd015 Good for you. Yes. You need to be very PATIENT sometimes. :)

  • I want to clip my rabbits nail urgently....... theyre well long!!!!

My pet Boa constrictor is getting hungry and i dont want to be cruel to him by feeding him a rabbit with really long nails. It may hurt him... poor fella

  • @biggurs Well....there's cruel and then there is cruel....

  • carefull when you clip the spaghetti cos it may fly into his eye! FOOL

  • I got my bunny about 3 weeks ago and his nails are long, but he's so skittish and short tempered I can't train him! I hold him a lot to get used to being held but when I have treats out for him stay eating, he hops around instead. what types of treats do you use and how can I make my bunny feel more relaxed( he's a netherlind dworf rabbit)

  • @TALONandSPLAT Go to Clickerbunny. com for lots of great ideas on training.

  • How did you train your rabbit to not be scared to be around you!? mine are about 10 weeks old and they are scared of everyone, they even run away from me :(

  • @Corriepants Rabbits are prey animals. They are hardwired to run. Mine have learned over time that I'm not going to mess with them too much. I don't force them by picking them up. Mostly all I do with them is fun training with treats they love. So they have grown to trust me. The bunny in this video is still a little wild though. It has to only be his idea to come to me. :)

  • Hey! Thank you for great tips! We did the same with our rabbit, bit scared that he would panic and bite, but none of that at all :) got used to clippers and sound of clipping real quick and didnt even notice when his nails were cut then, didnt mind at all :)

  • @stromak Awesome!

  • my bunny's are 2 years old... one of them practically wants their nails to be done but the other one wont even let me pick her up..... it is always like this... i always let her get used to me all the time, by letting her sniff me or letting her out of the cage and running around and on me but she will still not let me pick her up.... she runs and digs, its horrible.... can anyone help me?...

  • @applerules100 Go to clickerbunny . com for ideas on taming and trianing.

  • my bunny is only three months and he is a ball of energy . but i'll try this hopfully this will work.thank u.

  • MY BUNNY IS SUPER WILD...AND HE IS ALWAYS ALERT .......I WILL TRY IT...

  • I am soooo gonna try this on my bunny!! When i pick it up with its nails it scratches me.Not to defend itself but it just has long nails. So im gonna try this! OHHH when my parents see this their gonna be so proud of me!! Thanks to this women!

  • how long have u had this rabbit, i just got a rabbit nd i'v had it for 1 nd a half week, about how long do u think i shud wait befor trimin my rabbits nails. P.S. my rabbit is 9 weeks old

  • thank you so much for this! I Have been trying to find a good way to trim my bunny's claws because he really hates it. This seems so much better than the trancing and bunny burrito techniqes! I am going to try this with him tomorrow :)

  • @brendansmommy87 You're welcome! Just be patient. It takes lots of time. And lots of treats.

  • That is so awesome! I'm going to try this with my guinea pigs. They hate getting their nails trimmed!

  • @maddbbekah Cool! Have fun with it.

  • @thistlemiss omg my rabbit (a dwarf lionhead) has the exact same fur pattern as yours

  • @buttmunch109 mine is lionhead too

  • @KnowTheBone kool!!! :3

  • @buttmunch109 That's cool!

  • @thistlemiss i know right

  • I have to try this :D

  • @PhobicPheebs Cool! Let me know how it goes for ya. I seem to have plenty of patience...but never enough time! (True confessions: my bunnies are still a little wild too).

  • wow your great the rabbit seem to like u alot so here my question my rabbit is 8 years old yea she will be coming to live with me from tmr onwards so how do i get her to get familiar with the surronding

  • @SpeedGrapher09 The best thing with a new animal is to give her about 7-10 days to acclimate. Make sure she has all she needs in terms of proper size cage, hide box, litterbox, hay, veggies, etc. Feed her on a regular schedule...try and keep things predictable and calm. Don't handle her very much unless she's one of those rare bunnies that likes being handled. Just sit quietly in the room with her and let her get used to you. Next, start bringing something yummy every time you visit.

  • can you help me? my rabbit is soooooooooooooo stubborn.. she wont even let me clip her nails.............. D: her nails are sooooooooooooo long now..

  • @ira0shasha Start with the mat. I have a video of that on my channel. Once your bunny loves the mat, start feeding a bowl of rolled oats each session. Once your rabbit is used to getting great stuff on the mat, start very carefully touching his feet and giving a high value treat after each touch. Do this for several weeks until your bunny doesn't mind being touched. Then get the bunny used to clippers being nearby, then clip the spaghetti noodles--give LOTS of good treats!

  • @thistlemiss thank you sooooooooooo much!!!! it worked!!! omg! ure sooooooo smart!!!

  • @ira0shasha same problem here :(

  • I love that you really get to know your animal, what it likes to eat and how to read them with clicker training. Very nice example of how to train this! I also used spagetti to desensitize Jessie. I guess us clicker trainers are all creative! LOL!

  • @supernaturalbc2009 Thank you! Yes. The person who gave me the idea is an AMAZING Clicker Trainer!

  • That was very interesting. What was he eating in the bowl and what was the special treat you dropped in when you clicked? I'm wondering what bunnies like as treats.

  • @FortDoberdale He's eating rolled oats in the bowl and I'm tossing in tiny pieces of dried cranberry and apple. If you use dried fruit be sure you don't overdo it on the sugar. I cut each cranberry into about 4-6 little pieces so he only ends up eating a couple but I get a lot of repetitions in. Do a taste test with your bunnies to see what they like: some like low salt crackers, fresh fruit, carrot, etc.

  • Philippe!!! Thanks for uploading such videos. Its been a lot of help.

  • @disneybratz You are welcome. Doing it right sure takes patience! Getting Philippe to this point took forever.

  • @thistlemiss my rabbit mickey is a toughie like Philippe too. Except trying to carry him is still impossible ):

  • @disneybratz Yep. Philippe SCREAMS if I try to pick him up like I'm killing him and he will bite. I've had to back way off. He's not like all his brothers and sisters. I have taught him to jump on my lap on cue, however. On my channel under "rabbit training" you can see that. I used his nice mat targeting skills, then put the mat on my legs while sitting, then while sitting on a stool, etc.

  • @thistlemiss omg! he actually screams o.o!!! Is he neutered? Mickey will kick and struggle when i try to lift him. He doesn't mind me handling when there's food but when there isn't. There's no way i can lift him totally. I think it maybe a trust issue or he just dislikes being handled. In singapore, they dont sell such mats ): I think they weather is too hot for such mats to be sold.

  • @disneybratz I only picked him up once because it was an emergency and have never done it again. I do intend to gradually shape Philippe to tolerate my picking him up but i thin kit may take years. Most rabbits I've met seem to dislike being handled. But all my other bunnies will tolerate--just not Philippe. He's a special guy. The mat is actually a dog bed (for little tiny dogs), but you can teach your rabbit to target anything. Use a placemat from the table.

  • @thistlemiss yeah, hazel my other bunny diesn't mind being pick up. I cant find the furry furry mats. My flooring its tiles, so it can get slipper if i use the placement for tables. & they get really excited when there's food around. Very food motivated bunnies
