@Pianoplayaaaaaaaaaa She is doing a thumb roll around the edge of the drum's head. If you try it yourself it's an odd technique to master, but can be done on just about any concert bass drum just like almost any tambourine. Try using some beeswax on the head and not pressing as hard as you might think you have to press. It makes a GREAT effect when you hear it live in person!
@Rythsbeats Technically nowhere. This was a quartet assembled specifically for this piece. Some of the same players are used on a few of my other chamber ensemble pieces though.
