  • this song was actually written before the 10th anniversary show of oprah, in the early 90's, it was really not written fo oprah, maybe said it was, but look it up, for real, it's not, maybe now it's her song, but was written a few years before her 10th season for an album he decided not to put it on

  • @mr1time100 Paul Simon appeared more than once on Oprah's show and confirmed that this song was written specifically as the theme song for the 10th season of "The Oprah Winfrey Show". The Show asked him to write it.

And then last year (2011), Paul updated the song for the Oprah Show's 25th and final season.

  • how have I never heard this??? which album is this off of?

  • "The love that never dies!" --> into infinity!

Brilliant album Paul and band. In the name of Saint Michael, Saint Peter, and Saint George, I give you the power to make happiness and the right to bear instruments. Thank you Sir Paul!

  • @equalhappiness Seems like he already had those powers and rights... as he's been making popular music for several decades? Am I missing something??? :S

  • Anyone know where to find the guitar tabs for this song? none of the big tab sites have it. Thanks

  • where can i download this song?? i love it!

  • @ lady plum... I agree I'd love to see it here

  • can someone please get "25 years" on youtube! i neeeed it!

  • @ladyplum i said the same thing

  • @LaylaElExpose ....i have been watching the clip from oprah.com all day. its the only place that has the song.. im such a paul simon fan now. love him!

  • @ladyplum wuts the clip called

  • @LaylaElExpose if you google "paul simon 25 years" the clip comes up.

  • Paul Simon has always been one of my favorites. His body of work is simply incredible. Lyrics and music, all composed and arranged by him, wow... Most artists today don't do that, or, can't. Paul Simon is the real deal.

  • After that performance, he could have just quit, and everyone would of said 'Fantastic, it don't get much better than that', but he has continued, and we're all glad....

  • Such a cool song. I'd put Paul Simon right up there with Dylan as one of America's greatest lyricists.

  • This is truly a Timeless Classic. He is truely a a musical genius.

  • Magical.

  • Probably my favorite Paul Simon song. On Oprah's site you can find a new "surprise version" of this song.

  • Prachtig....

Wil ook graag dit op Mp3 zetten, weet iemand hoe dat moet (ben een beetje digibeet)

  • Paul Simon is the soundtrack of a human life.

  • I love the way Paul Simon sings. I miss Simon & Garfunkel.......such good songs they had. This song has me thinking a lot now that this year is coming to an end and bringing in the new one. Just goes to show you time waits for no one. Great song!!!!

  • God he's so good.

  • Paul at his best... There's nothing else to say.

  • This song was written by paul simon for the 10th anniversary of the rainforest foundation founded by Sting for his wife after a visit to the amazon. The foundation seeks to give indigenous people a voice in rainforests around the world.

  • @mariaguillioli I thought it was written for Oprah, the studio version then donated by Paul to the rain forest CD compilation... I'm happy to be proved wrong however :-)

It's a fine CD if you happen to come across it!

  • Like yesterday, I hear these words...

  • Thanks a lot for the post

  • So beautiful. Should have been on an album!

  • my baby graduated from 5th grade today... and as I looked at her, this song just kept replaying in my head... I can't believe she is 10 yrs old and on her way to middle school, where has the time gone... "10 years come and gone so fast, i might as well be dreaming"

  • "how do the powerless survive?"

-love that line and its delivery!

  • Was this ever released on any of his albums?

  • i still can't get over the fact that this song isn't found on any greatest hits CD's or anything. such a great Paul Simon song and sadly barely anyone knows that it even exists.

  • Can I ask how you got the full version of this song? I can't seem to find anywhere to buy/download it.

  • @DocPaterson

    Get youtube downloader from CNET

Then use the same program to make into

an mp3... That's what I did. Super fast and easy.

Ps. look for the new 25 yr paul simon/oprah on youtube

    amazing

  • What a shame that such a deep, reflective and beautiful composition was associated with such a schmaltzy show as Oprah!

  • @piehole23 - It was the perfect theme song for the 10th Anniversary of one of the most inspiring talk shows of all time, "The Oprah Winfrey Show". Otherwise, a singer/ songwriter of Paul Simon's caliber woudn't have done it.

  • Fair enough. We profoundly agree to disagree about Oprah but I do take exception to the premise that topnotch performers will only do their thing for shows that are of high merit. All that Simon's willingness to let his great song be used demonstrates is that he respects Oprah personally and/or she can afford to buy top talent. It says nothing about whether the show is good or bad.

  • a song much too good to not be on his biggest and best HITS list - just listen to the words and think of your own life....not a song for top 40 radio but still GREAT

  • Thank you for posting.

  • Gebruik youtube downloader. ;)

  • huh?

  • Where can I buy this? It isn't anywehre I can find!

    Anyway, amazing song. Truly amazing.

  • Good question. If you find out where, let me know. I used to have it from itunes but I no longer can find it. If you go to Amazon, you can find it on a compilation cd "Carnival: Rainforest Foundation Concert LIVE" hope that helps for now. :)

  • omg, I completely forgot about this song and it was in my head all day. I knew like every word when I was a kid...I just remember it was on the beginning of Oprah's show for awhile.

    Thanks for putting it up!

  • It was written as the theme song for the tenth anniversary season of "The Oprah Winfrey Show".

  • lol um, I know! I was raised on Oprah

  • Another great song by a genius. Thank you for posting. Thank you Paul Simon for inspiring so many people. You've inspired me to write and I won't stop till I die.

  • Thank you for posting this! I've been looking for a copy of this song for years. Wish I had a copy I could transfer to my MP3 player. It's such an inspiring song.

  • amazing song really.

  • simply sublime...paul simon

  • dank je wel voor de link! Ik geniet erg van dit nummer

  • Omg, this song is SO hard to find

  • I so agree. I so love this song which Paul Simon wrote and performed specifically as the theme for the 10th Anniversary season (1996 - 1997) of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" - the number one talk show in the U.S. For years, this song played in my head, and I didn't find a copy of it until now. Love it!

  • Where is this song from? Is it new? Is it a B-Side? I've got all his albums, but never heard this. Thanks loads for posting it.

  • its the theme for the oprah winfrey show. for her tenth year , hence "ten years"

  • Oprah's 10th anniversary in 1996 - judging from the sound, I'd say it's recorded earlier. I did find it on an anthology with other artits once, but to my best knowledge, it isn't on any PS album or single.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • It's on compilation CD for a charity called Carnival: Rainforest Foundation Concert Live

  • I meant where did u get a copy of the song?

  • One of Paul Simons best songs. The beginning is so nice.

  • thanks!!!

i was looking for the complete song!!!

    really good! thanks again!
