bod is quality. even though age isn't doing him any favours, he will be sorely missed by ireland. he simply does no wrong and does the remarkable when least expected. throughout his career he has been the sole reason why ireland's backline were able to be an international threat. ireland started becoming a lot more professional when BOD arrived on the scene. jason robinsons pretty good too.

Brian O'Driscol is a fine player, and Umaga was also a fine player. As a player, Umaga was an inspirational leader, very hard hitter, amazing passer and strong and fast runner. O'Driscoll, plays a flashier style. He is a very good player in other aspects of the game. To compare the two is stupid. i prefer Umaga, but I still rate O'driscol highly. I will be honest, i only know major names of world Rugby such as O'Driscoll..so maybe its harder to judge against low profile players such as umaga who aint known outside their homeland. If you had you'd know that Tana was a WINGER back then. Cullen (one of the greatest fullbacks of all time) was shifted into the midfield so yes we were lacking a bit, but the French were pure class. How you connect that to BoD I have no idea.

You must understand where Ireland were before O'Driscoll.. they were lucky to get 2 wins in a Six nations campaign, infact that was considered massive success. Now if they dont get at least 4 its a failure, O'Driscoll has transformed them but they have ways to go to be the best (Rugby is still 4th choice in Ireland). Against NZ.. go to vid just called.. Without the league coaches influence England would have not won in 03. rugby league n union are worlds apart. leagues basic skills are better ie line breaks, passing, overlaps because its what league players do from 0 to 80 minutes. union is more specialist n tactical ie no lineouts in league n scrums are just 4 show. this argument could last 4ever. let's just agree that we're rugby fans. what other sport could have 2 different codes with such great diversity

In the time that Wilko came on the scene Union had an influx of Coaches with a league background and the british game had a number of league trained players involved in the England set up notably Ellery Hanley, Phil Larder,Joe Lydon and Mike Ford, without the technical expertise of these people RU could not produce JW or any other RU player to the level he attained.
