I'd have to disagree...after owning 7 GSD since my late teens, I decided to get an indoor Lhasa Apso for my daughter who has disabilities and can't readily play with the big boys outside. As a 'guard' dog, that little gremlin alerts me to ANY human movement 20 yards from our door. Never thought I'd own anything else but a Shepherd, but the little furball is a firecracker too :)
PUt the best a Doberman and a Collie got to give and you get a German Shepherd. If you avoid health problems this is one of the best dogs to own. Just miles of exercise each week .
@attilaclark European working line Dobermanns have the best temperament for personal protection. They are more alert, wary, defensive, and are quicker to respond than a German Shepherd Dog. And also, GSDs do better with multiple handlers and strangers than Dobermanns. As far as personal protection goes, the only thing a GSD is better at is obedience, and there isn't much of a difference in the loyalty/obedience of a GSD and a Dobermann.
@DiamondRavenChannel Both the German shepherd and Doberman are amazing protection dogs! I made this video as a tribute to the German shepherd as i feel they are the ultimate guard dog, however, i respect and truly admire other protection breeds such as the Doberman, the Rottweiler, Belgian Malinois, Ovcharka, and a few others. Thank you for comment! I will have to check out your channel and subscribe :)
@StSimonMartyr I'm not talking about Schutzhund, IPO, police/military work, etc. I'm talking about personal protection, which has nothing to do with tracking. None of the Shepherd dogs have the overall hardness to match an excellent working Dobermann. The GSD may (barely) rise above the Dobie in obedience, but the Malinois, because of its independence, is not all that close. Shepherds are multipurpose working dogs. I'm talking about personal protection.
Their 'Multipurpose' IS Police, Military and Protection work and they have NO Equal.
Dobes are Not as Hard, as trainable, as tough and Not as Versatle.
You talk of isolated dogs & make general statements.
The Police, Military, Special Forces, Border Patrol & Tens of thousands of Homes trust their families and lives, to GSDs.
There is a small line of Dobes that are suitable for work, but most are not. And they dont surpass Working GSD lines. Nothing does in pure results and efficiency.
Police K9s only have 1 Handler. There are No strangers. You talk like an idiot.
If you want to see hard dogs, see Working Police Vids-on the street. CrowdControl, Apprehensions, Border Patrol, KNPV tests. U dont see Dobes in these scenarios.
Dobes are known for Not taking punishment & leaving their handlers. They are not as hard, responsive, trainable and many lack Fight.
A gent in the states-Dominick Donovan tried to revive the Dobe with new breed called Donovan Pinscher & added Pit/Mal
@StSimonMartyr Who the hell are you to be telling me all this bullshit with no proof! Do you really think I believe you? If you want someone with experience in working their dogs in sports such as PSA, Schutzhund, French Ring, etc., then go talk to SilentDobe. Her Dobermann is one of a kind. HOWEVER, the videos she has on her channel now are not the best. You should go ask her if she'll let you watch the private videos of Nassor's The Saints Silence. Why don't you just SHOW me some AWESOME GSDs?
@StSimonMartyr By the way, in police work, border patrol, military work, etc., dogs need more prey/food/ball/fight drive than defensiveness. I’m not saying the don’t need it, I’m saying for that line of work dogs are used more for searching out/capturing criminals, searching out drugs/bombs, and not AS MUCH for protection. As a matter of fact, military forces started using DOBERMANNS as CENTURIES and NOT the Shepherds! So then, who is the better protector!
Dobermans were tested in War, and famous Mrine Chesty Puller demanded that they never be used in combat again.
They were, acrroding to him, Unreliable at best. His wrds...'They Broke under stress'
A good Shepherd has as much Defense drive as any Doberman.
Dobermans dont take training as well, repetition training, lack the coat, and take twice as long as a GSD to train. Ive personally seen trained titled Dobes. Nothing will change my mind.
@StSimonMartyr By the way, there are six KNPV titled Dobermanns, which means that you cannot say that 100% of all Dobies are incapable of it! Very few Dobermanns are capable of that type of work, BUT THEY STILL EXIST! By the way, are you ever going to show me any videos of working GSDs of which you see as BETTER than ANY Dobermanns???
@StSimonMartyr What makes you think you'll change my mind. You're the one who came to me first and you STILL have yet to show me any videos! Have you talked to SilentDobe yet? She has EXPERIENCE with a veriaty of dogs; Dobies, Malinois, GSDs, Donavan Pinschers, and a few more. I have trained three Dobermanns and they are encreadable easy to train. As soon as I get to a zone where I can actually play TouTube videos again, I'll send you some good ones.
@StSimonMartyr Wow, all that bullshit you messaged me, LOL. You said that that military force prefers Dobermanns as sentries instead of GSDs because of the heat, LOL. DUDE, THEY ALREADY USE LOTS OF GSDS AND THEY DON’T EVEN SHAVE THEM, SO THEREFORE, THE HEAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM USING DOBERMANNS AS SENTRIES INSTEAD OF SHEPHERDS! Dobermanns obviously do a better job with it, but that’s just hard for you to admit, LOL.
@StSimonMartyr And also, you just admitted that Labs have a dense (and also oily) coat for warmth. And also, GSDs, without a doubt, also keep warm quite well. So if the heat had a terrible impact on their dogs, than why don’t they shave their coats! Why don’t they just shave their GSDs’ coats and use THEM as sentries if they’ve got the temperament to do that line of work more efficiently than an excellent working Dobie!
@StSimonMartyr You said the Malinois is also a better worker than a Dobie. Malies aren’t as loyal/trainable as GSDs and Dobies. They’re not even in the top ten of Stanley Coren’s list of dog trainability by breed. I’m not saying the list is ACURATE, but I’m just saying GSDs come in at number three, number five for Dobies, and the Malinois is all the way down at twenty-two. One to ten begin responding well to commands after five exposures, and eleven to twenty-six take five to fifteen.
@StSimonMartyr The Shepherds may have more prey/ball/food/fight drive, but they do NOT have the overall hardness. Dobermanns are more wary and defensive. I don’t care how much you want to tell me no about that, but it’s true for some Dobies! You should go study vom Tanzenhaus, von Ellendonk, von Bayern, etc. bloodlines, and then you’ll see what a HARD Dobermann is!
@StSimonMartyr In military, police, special services, border patrol, dogs need to coexist more easily with plenty of folks around them every day than in personal protection or sentry. Of course, in P. P., dogs need to be able to accompany the handler anywhere, but not to meet with quite a few folks (unless you know and meet quite a few folks) every day. GSDs can handle quite a few folks as their “pack members” a little better. Therefore, they are not as wary as Dobermanns.
@StSimonMartyr Hence; why does the military force prefer to use Dobies as sentries INSTEAD of their GSDs??? Don’t blame it one the heat. That is the world’s dumbest excuse because if the heat had something to do with it, then they would shave the GSDs that they already have. By the way, I’ve heard of OTHER military forces, in cooler areas, that also use Dobermanns as sentries. They still use their GSDs as duel purpose dogs, but DOBERMANNS specialize in sentry duty.
@StSimonMartyr By the way, you told me that Dobermanns are difficult dogs to train and break away from their handlers??? Now that just proves how uneducated you are about them! Dobermanns are one of the LOYALEST and EASIEST dogs to train! I’ve trained three of them, and they were by far the easiest purebred dog I’ve trained in obedience. Two of theme were not even from any working (or show) line at all. They were backyard bred dogs. The one that I own is a European show line Dobermann.
@StSimonMartyr And you should go talk to the owner of a channel called SilentDobe. She has quite a bit of experience with sport training dogs. She trains and/or watches GSDs, Malies, Donavans, Dobies, APBTs, Rotties, and more. She has one KICKASS Dobermann! I mean that Dobie has got a whole lot of hardness and fight drive!
@StSimonMartyr And also, I have at least shown you two videos, and you have yet to show me ANYTHING that proves that absolutely no Dobermann has the overall hardness to surpass a Shepherd dog. If only I could find those videos that show Dobies being used as sentry dogs in OTHER military forces, and if only the REST of the videos belonging to SilentDobe were still listed on her channel, then I could have shown you some good stuff. But you haven’t even shown me ANYTHING!
Description well defines the characteristics of a GSD. German Shepherds have always been a part of my life. Their versatility makes them the ultimate dog for herding, service dog, companion, seeing eye dog, sentry, pet. That's part of what makes them the ultimate guard dog; fearless, loyal, powerful, etc, yet, affectionate w/ the right people! Plus, alot of pictures in this video displayed them happy or calm. Please look better at pictures and description before passing judgement.
@cpapo1 I'll stand by my statement of poorly executed video and poor song choice..... Yes i did read the description. However, I must commend you on your understanding and intentions.
Without a doubt, German shepherds are the worlds best guard dogs! Its so true what the description says; the only dog to combine power, agility, will, speed, endurance, bravery, loyalty, and smarts all in one! There jaw power is awesome how they can latch on to a fighting criminal and take them down in the same manner a lion takes down a zebra! Thats why the police and military use them! Plus, they were used as a livestock guardian to defend sheep from predators!
My favorite dog breed! The most complete and well rounded guard and attack dog, and still gentle and loving with there families! There intelligence is amazing!

No,
Your bias is evident and not based on any factual experience with Working dogs.
There are 2 dogs in 'Greater' Germany, where Working dogs orignated, considered by the establishment ie Police and Military as 'Working' Breeds.
They are the GSD and the Mechelaar or Malinois.
Other dogs can do the work, but no breed does all 3 phases of work as well, as efficently, quickly trained, or as flawlessly.
(Protection, Tracking, Obedience)

GSDs are used in German Special Forces and elite Police Units.
They get one handler..for life.
Dobes lack overall hardness under pressure & intense struggle.
GSDs also generally perform better & more responsive in obedience, due to its Herding background.
In PP, the same is true. There are very Hard GSDs-Czech, DDR, Belgium & W. German Lines.
Dobes offer no advantage in PP work either, and in fact are much harder to find lines that are hard enough for the work comparable to a GSD.

I have.
Its how every Doberman should, but doesnt work.
And it parallels what a decent Working GSD does in protection, in muzzle work.
There are thousands of GSDs that show the same drive, aggression and sharpness.
Youve not been aroud enough. get out more.
Dobes are nice dogs when bred right, but offer nothing other than a short coat for hot climates in comparison to a good Working GSD.
Thousands of Elite Police and K9 Units cant be wrong. GSD remains the dog of choice in many Dept

There are Thousands of Mals and GSDs with the same KNPV title...Most Dobes are unsuited for it, and the numbers prove my point.
Police K9s live with their handlers and work for and with them. Only.
Dogs are not transferred or used by other cops.
Adapting to a handler is a non issue, as its never done in police depts, unless an officer dies.
Far more often, its a dog K9 that is killed before its handler.

Depts. generally have more than 1 dog.
No other handler works another handlers dog, period. Hes not trainedto work that dog! Fool
Dobermans werent used for centuries in war, you moron.
Dobe is only 150 years old. And was developed by a tax collector in 1860s.
Dogs being used in combat, hasnt changed, however. They are sentries, guards, apprehension, detection and protection for the handler.
Dobes havent got the stuff. Only is certified in all of Germany for Police work, today.

Type KNPV German Shepherd or Police K9, or Military Dogs. All you see is Mals and GSDs, for good reason.
Dobes have neither the Nerve nor Courage that these breeds do.
The Dobe was Only Invented in 1860 U fool, hasnt been around that long and never popular.
The training involved whether Military, Police, Special Forces, is much the same & overlapped far as Protection goes, it INCLUDES Self Defense.
Dobe Offers NO advantages over GSD
