10 people don't have any spirit what-so-ever and don't deserve to watch sports. To all who like this kind of music, i am deeply ashamed of this and hope that they never listen to any other irish or celtic song. I for one was born in a country where people admire great sporting heros and how they aspire to stand upon mountains and always be winners and never give less then their all. Truest thing truest thing i have ever heard in my life and it makes me proud to live.
@TaimenVerbeke Imagine flying above looking down at 2 teams facing eachother and the cheer of thousands of fans rising above all else and the sudden silance as the wistle blows starting the game. If you can imagin this then you know what TaimenVerbeke Is talking about.
gets better when they hit those harmonies, most singers cant do this, tis an in- born gift, only a small % of humans have it. Asians and Orients dont. Before the complaints start, Im talking natural harmony vocals here, not unisons, anyone who keeps in tune can do unisons or octaves.
I am Serbian. That is not the matter here. I'm not much of a football fan, sure I watch it as any other guy (I mean soccer, the regular kind), but this is one of the most inspirational song I have ever heard. I cherish and adore Irish folk music, as well as Serbian and Croatian alike, as someone here mentioned (they are a bit alike, if not much) but this is one of my favourite songs, not because it's Irish and not English, not because it's bigoted but because it lifts spirits. Erin go bragh!
@mywesternspirit I may or may not be Irish. But I think that's besides the point. This is music that can be enjoyed by anyone! Such a great great song.
You know, I have no idea if it is about football, soccer, or rugby, but I do compete competitively in the WABDL, and I have never felt such motivation to get back to work to represent my home country on the world level as I do when I listen to this song.
@kcnB Please remember that soccer is not some Americanism. We got the term from the English who used to refer to the sport as both "football" and "soccer." Just because they've stopped calling it this, doesn't mean Americans need to change what they call it. What's it matter to you what vocabulary other people use anyway?
Since you believe that language shouldn't be allowed to change, may I ask if you still speak Old English, since modern English is just a bastardization of what already was?
@rmm413c Actually if you want to get technical, Old English was less like modern English than you might think. It was closer to Teutonic languages... the influence of the Latinized languages picked up and began to show through the incarnation of Middle English, which was by far and away closer to modern English. And it could be said that modern English was a bastardization of Middle English, in a way. But as a language it really wasn't cataloged well, and was certainly transitory at best. :D
This is a song that deserves respect. It easily equals Ireland's Call in the spirit it evokes within you. At the end of the day, nobody cares whether it's about Gaelic Football, Rugby, Soccer, or what have you. It's a powerful song, and given an equally powerful performance by these legendary singers. Respect to the Kings! Neart, Grá agus Onóir!
*Reads through the entire first few pages of comments" Wow. All this argument of Gaelic Football and Soccer, and no one mentions this song is FREAKIN' AMAZING.

Aye I agree with you. Also it is 100% obvious as you see players with hurls and soloing a ball! who would take time write a song about soccer, they aren't half as passionate about their sports
I can understand the confusion, and yes its about hurling, but i would like to point something out
when they say "hoping that someday the call they will answer is to play for the place they where born" I can understand why people think its about soccer becuase they could be refuring to a chance to play for the national soccer team of the country.
I'm puzzled why they don't sing the a-list songs of the Clancy Brothers, like Carrickfergus, The Dutchman, Whiskey in the Jar, etc. etc.
I'm not being critical and I think they are really excellent, but their repertoire is rather limited in both quality and quantity compared with their predecessors..At least that's my opinion.
@helenaZZZZirlandaise well for whiskey in the jar, they did record that song on their new album memory lane. they said that the new one is more in depth and not popey or over produced. not sure about the other songs though

Darren is the face in this group for me. Its kinda obvious that they need him and brian in the group, not just because of their talent, but after listening to the other two for a while, and having big guts to look at, its kinda boring. They can sing, but its like you'd hear in a pub.
I saw them at the Olympia last night. Amazing show. They are all so talented. Darren stole the show with Cavan Girl. What a voice. And those tight jeans!
I use it for Rugby. Never even thought it was for American or English football since those really aren't as manly.

This song always reminds me of my first days as an exchange student in Limerick back in '07. It was late August, and the whole city was just bristling with energy because of the rugby finals. There were green-and-white Munster banners everywhere, and you could just feel the sense of pride the people had for their own team.
Ah, good times, good times...
