I find it amusing that Mill wrote a book titled "On Liberty" when he was an employer of the East India Company. You are a pig and a hypocrite Mill. I hope you are burning in hell.
This is great information but please get a new voice. Narrator - were you born without a personality or do you just have a negative bent on vocal inflections? I mean, seriously, WTGDF?
Mill, Locke, Marx, Paine, Democracy in America, and the Fed Papers should be required reading in all US High Schools. It might help our country if people knew what they hell they're talking about instead of listening to Rush and Beck.
I read this not too long ago and found it very enjoyable. One of Mill's central concerns was intellectual freedom, and even more important, intellectual honesty.
The content is fascinating but the reading is horrible. The narrator drones monotonously and seems entirely unable to convey the flow of Mill's prose.
JSM is quoted as saying:"When the 'sacredness' of property is talked of, it should be remembered that any such sacredness does not belong in the same degree to landed property." He may have had in mind fact land value is created by the community and might appropriately be the primary source of revenue for govt. services all of which also increase land value. Of course govts. have always protected landowners as first priority and private collection of community created land values.
Later he altered his views toward a more socialist bent, adding chapters to his Principles of Political Economy in defense of a socialist outlook, and defending some socialist causes
Thank you SOOO much for this. Whenever I've tried to read Mill before I can't ever shut my own mind up enough to truly absord the marvellous workings of JSM. Thanks mate.
I'd suggest looking this article up on google. The full version of this is available. Reading it would be much more effective, cuz this guys is narrating at 5 miles an hour... He takes more than a minute a page!!
I've got to do an essay on this - i enjoy it, and i'm a bit of a libertarian, but i still find it damned hard :| 'What is Mill's "One Very Simple Principle" and why does he think it is important?'
Bit vague :/
By the way, according to youtube, related to this video is one called "cpnoawesome is a quivering pink vagina"... erm, yes. He is.
I believe that Ron Paul, more often that not, brings much of John Mill's thoughts, understanding, on liberty to this country once again and I hope that those of us who understand Liberty will support Ron Paul in their state's.

Freedom is overrated. The most disciplined, responsible, and respected members of society enjoy the least freedom of any whatsoever

They make you study it so that you learn the value of freedom; the same freedom which allows you to attend university without fear of persecution.
