History is always composed of multiple groups, struggling for their own agenda by pulling the nations steering wheel, and where that leads us is where we end up. In this case its a gang of irish immigrants forming for protection from other gangs. Everything Leo's character does relates to his identity and the debt he feels he owes to his father and heritage -hence the blood stays on the blade- and yet his personal struggles help shape the entire nation.

In my opinion it is terrible, because there is far too much thrown at you in the duration the film, and that's like eating a visual plate of scrambled eggs. The acting is forced and only the veterans hold their ground. I'm a fan of Scortese's work, my favourite is Taxi Driver. I think he tried to do too much with this one and it fails on every level.
