Brilliant performance. And for those not enlightened Damo Suzuki was the original lead singer of the German art rock band Can (even tho he was Japanese)
I saw a performance by, and met Damo Suzuki earlier this evening in Edinburgh. He radiates good feelings and happiness. See him perform any chance you get. He's planning on continuing this world tour until he drops dead (preferably on stage). I was blown away! Peace to all the mighty, mighty Fall fans.
@amnodeidyet, yip, i was lucky enough to speek to damo in aberdeen as he was playing with my mates band. the boy is awsome but to be honest i prefered malcolm mooney's style with can. taigo and ege was my fav tho
A few years back I found Damo Suzuki's web site. It had a guest book (remember those days?). I had no idea who he was at the time and left a message saying how surprised I was to find he was a real person. He sent me a nice reply telling me that he definitely wasn't a figment of Mark E Smith's imagination. I've caught up on the history of Krautrock since then.
I could listen to MES being interviewed all day and I have loads of Fall albums but I cannot listen to one all the way through. I tire really quickly of the dreary monotony of the music, with one or two exceptions. Tony Wilson summed it up perfectly when he said he was a fan of The Fall but not of their music.
@UberBeaver Yeah, Beaver, it is like a Very stupld question!. The mighty Fall have been described as a Cult band, if you subscribe to all this labelling, typo, Muso critics like, type, but dont let it bother yourself.
yeah one of the all-time classic Fall tunes from one of their greatest line-ups, greatest albums and (from this evidence) greatest gigs ... alas, I would have been a mere six years old at the time ...
Lol, he's singing bout the Can singer aint he? well the title is him anyway. gotta confess never paid much attention to these lyrics--it's the overall song i like- weird and wonderful.
And you probably would have gotten in for 3 quid 50 and gotten pressed a flyer in your hand for the same concert costing a whopping 1 pound 75 pence to press and if you would have had a shower on the same day you would have gotten la*d in the bathroom. But most importantly, at the same time you would have been part of rock history. What times those were back in the day in Manchester, eh?

Rubbish. Haven't these idiots heard of melody? Anyone can do what The Fall do and their singer, Malcolm Smith has no clue about vocal melody. I saw him being interviewed and he was also being a smart ass. He needs to wise up and get with the program...
Jeez get a life man... music is doesn't always have to fit your criteria to have worth. I mean... if you're happy to be locked into the world of verse chorus verse, length between 2.5-5 minutes - fine, stay there - don't try to drag others with you. If musical meaning exists only in some particular group of determined notions about musical form for you.. then you have my pity... "Bloody smart asses, need their bloody teeth kicked in" - some generic fat ignorant ape.
this is my first post here... this is 'The Fall' at their best, Mark Smith at his best...Manchester before the ecstasy and the end of the Hacienda...the early days, the middle mass and everything et,etc... M. smith still does great music... love this song....don't understand the thing with the Beatles and all in the early posts... ask James Murphy @ LCDSoundsystem about it.... first look up for Can...maybe you will get it...all the best
First may i say a massive "cheers!" to kogler for posting this...great memories!... great comment hernani76!!...yes, the early to mid 80s in Manchester were fantastic...i used to love that club, b4 all this Madchester crap ( sorry just my opinion ), when decent bands played at the Hacienda, i was at this gig too...and remember 5 of us driving down to Bristol in a battered capri 2 weeks later to watch em on my 20th birthday....The Fall...pure science fiction...thanks mate.
I remember listening to Bend Sinister on Mushes; ROD was fantastic of course, but by the time I got to English Grenadiers I was wishing it was Frenz Experiment! [You'll either know what I mean or you won't!]
What's it got to do with you anyway? My 83-year-old Mum doesn't like it either, but who would bother to ask her? I think Dire Straits are the pits but I never have to listen to them.....
Well....I think you may be giving eclecticism a bad name... but as I said, it's nowt to do with me or anyone else. I listened to Wim Mertens for 2 days solid recently, but I've got an Aqua Cd somewhere....there's nowt so queer....
I say hooray for us. That crazy quadruple-time drumming at the end of "Sultans" ("And says at last just as the time bell rings" -> pants creaming) is mad satisfying.
I understand why you attack me. I am actually intrigued and interested by Smith but this recording is bad because it is so boring. Great music doesn't have to be technically proficient, it just has to excite and be interesting. You lot are all Fall fans (me too) but would you honestly like this track if it was performed by someone else?

This is not good music. The Smiths made great music, so does Morrissey. The Beatles were really good, so are The Stones. The Who were A1 as well. But this.....Please tell me what I'm missing.
