  • jessie mathews was my grand fathers couson

  • and she had great legs!

  • paul whiteman did this too... cant find that version

  • Jessie Mattews was the epitome of feminine beauty whose talent shone from her in everything she did. I was in love with her then and I still am. There will never be another Jessie Matthews. A true star if ever there was one.

  • In which interview did she make that comment, Jim? I'm intrigued. Big fan of Jessie here.

  • Correction. It was a BBC radio interview with Godfrey Winn...

  • I find her voice a little warbly, but she's a pleasure to look at.

  • When she agreed to record this song the words had to be amended to remove some of the cheekier words as Miss Matthews was unmarried at the time and the BBC audiences may have been shocked !!! Lovely posting. Also, because she ran off with Sonny Hale (married to Evelyn Laye) she was not introduced to the Queen Mother to avoid the Royal family being embarrised. Given Princess Margret's later behaviour I find this particularly ironic. Thanks for posting

  • Thanks for this observation...

Jessie was, is, and always will be a magical lady.

  • Sonny Hale was, of course, Binnie Hale's father.

  • Probably my favourite song by Jessie. There is something magical about the imagery.

  • The best impression of Jessie was done by Sarah Brightman - perfect with the incredible high-kicks too.

  • Jessie Matthews was an absolute beauty to see and hear.

    Total perfection.

  • haha i have to sing this in my drama exam lmao loving it !!! :P

  • Merci
