To AmiraDana: Rather than presenting an irrational argument, you can check the web site of the National Geographic Society on the genetic study that I am mentioning. It was done in conjunction with the American University of Beirut and shows a direct link between present day Lebanese (both Muslims and Christians) and the Phoenicians.
acutally the lebanese and the Syrians are Syriac. the Phoenicians Genes are the minorty ..and the major are Syriac...it is a flase thougth in Lebanon and syrian coast.
Ab3antar3, in a way you are right in saying that the Lebanese and Syrians are Syriacs. Syriac/Aramaic is a language that was spoken in the region by the Canaanites and others. Some of those Canaanites, those living on the coast, were once known to other Mediterranean cultures as the Phoenicians. So you could say that the inhabitants of Lebanon were once Phoenicians or Canaanites or Syriacs if you prefer, though the latter term usually refers to the language.
dats true too, is it about half of the lebanse ppl whether muslim or christian, have phoenician blood? but phoenicians are still of arab ethnicity are they not?
Yea they are, most of the people in the middle east (Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, And Hejaz Area of Saudi Arabia) have very similar DNA, cause all these ppl have their ancestry in Hejaz, Arabia.. and Present day they all speak Arabic, and have VERY similar cultures. So they are Arabs now :)
yup, i think it was easier for them to adopt it, evn tho under euro influence 1300 yrs ago. but its good cuz as it was at that time, the left half of the mideast was under roman influence whereas the right half, (like iraq and el khaleej), were under persian influence. so ya this new semitic wave brought about semite identity. so ya es cool. phoenicians were still awesome tho. To justinehillow: I am not aware of any scientific or archaological evidence that people in Syria, Palestine and Lebanon came from the Hijaz. In fact, genetic studies seem to suggest otherwise.
to xHASSUNAx: Phoenicians and Arabs belong to different genetic groups, the Arabs being predominantly J1 haplotype, while the Phoenicians (Canaanites) were mostly J2. In fact, several Jewish groups are genetically closer to Arabs than Phoenicians were. To me, it does not make any difference either way, but those are the facts.
dude uts all J-type so what. J1 or J2 all semites had to come from somewhere. and that doesnt really matter to me what blood type they had because a couple thousand yrs frmo now god nows how many blood types arabs will split then >_> its a fact we mutate all the type. every 30 min a mutation occurs in our body. so to say whether they were type J2 or J1 shouldnt really matter, since J2 is subclade of J1.
These are not blood types and J2 is not a subclass of J1. The two groups have been different for at least 10,000 years and they did not change further to any significant extent. Ultimately, all humans go back to a common ancestor that came from Africa, so in that sense we are all similar.
groups have been difrnt for atleast 10000 yrs? how wel is it know that phoenicians have J2 blood. and yes J2 IS a subclade of J1....whey else would it be cald that not only that it is certain it was a mutation. but answer my question. what would make them diff if they come from same source. th ppl have same language same cultures same beliefs (in regards o pantheon) y the heck am i able to understan most phoenician words? btw u should specifiy which J2 group apparently J2a is one found in Mideas
It is well established that Phoenicians were a J2 haplotype from genetic testing done on ancient bones. It is also well estbalished that the two groups separated 10,000 years ago. Neither of them is a subgroup of the other. Their languages have the same roots but they are not the same. I have studied some basic Aramaic and it is not the same as Arabic. Just because Italians can understand some Spanish words does not mean that Italians are Spanish, or that Jews are Arabs, etc
wlak were all semitic. shu khas el blood? if they seperated it means that they both come from same ppl. it still doznt mean that phoenicians arent arab. from where they come from then? they poped from ground like daisies?
xHASSUNAx, if Phoenicians were Arabs then Jews would be Arabs too since we all came from the same roots and speak similar languages. Also, Italians and Portuguese would be Spanish and so forth. But, yes you are right, we are all semitic people. I wish you were right though that we were all together once again. That would be a dream come true. Unfortunately, too many Semitic people do no think like you or I.
ya eh :( ....but i meant to say Arab as in originally from Arabia. If u look at us then and us now, ud see there wasnt that much of a difference, hrdly any. but now we have a chance. since arabic (modern) is the most recent form of semitic, and most advanced, and also since we share similar cultures, we should try to be closer to each other. Were brothers ya? :)
@ANADPaul ofcourse aramaic isnt same as arabic, thats because it its predeccessor. no one understands Old English when its being spoken u took language sciences ye? this society is bent on categorizing whatever is possible. generalize rather than categorize it brings ppl together. plus why r we arguing about this, were all Arab now so who cares. the way i c it its like this, we were all same, we split, now were together once agin. and hahah ya phoenicians were there 10000 yrs ago LMAOOO
About the Old English comment, Arabic, Hebrew and Aramaic all have the same roots but Arabic did not evolve directly from Aramaic, even though it initially borrowed some of its scripts. In fact Arabic is considered more of a Southern Semitic language borrowing some from Ethiopic semitic and some from the northern Semitic languages. In the end, like you said, these ancient issues are rather academic, what matters perhaps is who we consider ourselves to be now.
You are always talking about Kormakitis and it's language..well my mother comes from Asomatos another maronite village, and yeshhh she learned me speaking Aramaics, you are not alone, so if you want to just get stronger get united first with Asomatos and Agia Marina and then we can learn Aramaics.
@YaLibnanTV What do you think about Egyptians? Arabs or non-Arabs/Egyptians? Christian and Muslim Egyptians are of one nation and more importantly ONE BLOOD.
@stupidityslayer it is arabic but i understand only if i read the translation .by reading the translation i see that he speaks arabic.otherewise i wouldnt hear the words out
@radiomerdin u know what i think ur right!..after hearing this again i kinda heard a couple of arabic words..but with a very very difficult to understand accent.
The so called Maronite Arabic is a variation of the Syriac language. Syriac is a dialect of Aramaic which is a Semitic language that was spoken in the Near East for many centuries and still is in a few isolated towns. I am Maronite myself and feel very sad to what is happening to the Maronites in Cyprus. My heart is with them and I wish them the best. I hope one day to visit (can a Canadian visit Northern Cyprus ?)and offer help and encouragement.
yes a canadian can visit northern cyprus even they can work over there my boss is a canadian. but if u come by larnaka airport it is still a question if jealous and dictator banana republic of cyprus will let you or not to cross and see the beauty of unspoilt north.

You have lots of guts to deny people their origins when you do not seem to know much about the subject. The Phoenicians are a Canaanite group and there is no evidence that they came from the Arabian Peninsula as you claim. At the contrary, recent genetics studies clearly suggest that Canaanites and Arabs are separate lineages. No one is denying the Arabic influence in the region, but please do not lecture us about our origins, especially when your motivations are clearly not constructive.
Can you provide any literature references to your claim of Phoenician sites in Iraq? I have studied archaeology and read a lot on the subject and never heard of such places. Besides, I never said that I do not like Arabia, this is your own interpretation, and the language you are using reflects your intolerance towards other people. You are just not able to provide a rational argument and are thus resorting to hatred language.
well i think if they live in Cyprus they should speak Cypriot, not arabic not turkish .. and thats that .. but i suppose amongst themselves they can talk chinese if they want ..
Cypriot Maronites are very important for Cyprous because of teir LONG HISTORY, of their churches fo their civilization.
It is time for TURKISH CYPRIOTS AND GREEK CYPRIOTS to understand that this small community deserves its villages, ancient buildings and everything else that belongs to it from 686 AC up to now!
AYIA MARINA, KORMAKITIS, KARPASHA, ASOMATOS
OUR CHURCHES, MONASTERIES, HOUSES HAVE TO BE REBUILT!
The greek cypriot do everything to uphold there cultural/ religious sites, tell this to the pirate govt of Northern Cyprus, they are using there churches and farms and living on stolen land!!!!!!
why u always blame turkish side u bastard? ha? every religion in north is accepted everybody is free to worship. even ur filty priests come and pray in karpaz we have alevi and other worship places open for everyone. maronites dont have right in south u just use them to show urself innocent. so shut up and cross north to see truth
what religion u are heracles? there were your lands in north and THERE WERE OUR LANDS IN south before 1974. with an agreement greeks crossed to south and turks crossed to north. yassu? and what are u talking about we made ur church livestocks? at least we keep them stand but u completly destroyed and destructed our SCHOOLS HOSPITALS GRAVES FARMS MOSQUES u idot. I wont even talk about OUR HOUSES
ur banana republic which occupied turkish cypriots right in parlament has no freedom of speech or reliogion thats why ur so called church?! welcomes only greeks and ignores other nationalities. there is only one! mosque working in south am I wrong? here in north we have at least 10 church accepting prayers capish filty pig? one of my friend' s friend who was black went to a church and
they are mostly greek because mostly greeks follow the religion, not coz we dont want other races in church, nearly everything u just said is just hateful bullshit, with no evidence!
racist priest gave him 50 euro to go another cos community would be uncomfortable from his existence. u are a socalled eu member everybody knows this, maronites live in south cos they speak greek thats why like all black cypriots converted to muslim and turks and live in north the mentality of yours is belower than middle easterners keep crying turkey turkey and keep yelling north north north cyprus. noone believes u. cos we are %100 right not u liars
they could but as you know maronites live in cyprus since 1000 a.c.they developed their own kind of language but after some time they learned all greek.and off course after the turkish invasion some maronites villages were destroyed and get smaller and maronite community is under a crisis now
I am wondering shouldnt the Cypriot Maronite have the right to come to Lebanon and get the Lebanese citizenship? especially that they were orginally lebanese a 1000 years ago plus i think they would be able to keep speaking language easier in Lebanon than in Cyprus
and about the "A'ameya" language ( A'ameya is aramaic word means people)which means the peaple language some call the lebanese dialect its an living syro-aramaic language wrapped with arabic forms or aramaic arabized words.
The Maronite's Language is the Aramaic-Syriac, and Kormikiti is a living evidence of that. although we are still using it in our holy Mass, and trying to relive it in our day by day.
As these 2 short documentaries show, they are loosing there Aramaic language, the girl and the mother are living proof of this. They actually speak a form of Aramaic/Phoenician, the same language from the Maronite bible. This is where the Lebanese dialect originates from, not Arabic.
@YaLibnanTV I believe the Lebanese language is arabic, and its dialect, like the Syrian is heavily influenced by Aramaic, Phoenician, and the other languages that have been prominent in the area.
"rather your a Muslim or Christian Lebanese, you are Phoenician and should not be sucked into the media and loose your culture to Arabism" al-Shaam is far more complicated than that...Aram, Philistine, Kurd, Turk, Armenian, Greek, Arab, Circassian, Tartar...so many people who melted in the melting pot of Islam...br Abu Alee AlRumi
Hi. I never knew there was Maronites in Cyprus. This is so interesting. I thought Maaloula was the only village still speaking Jesus's language! It is amazing how close it is to Lebanese....these elderly are blessed. I envy you..
hello guys,i'm a lebanese phoenician and i'm proud of it.This race (the phoenician) isnt well-known bcs our neighbours the greeks stole our heritage. We must try to retain that back.thnx YaLibnan ,but on the other side i wish that u dont prefer greeks on arabs!i mean i know that arabs r shit, but for sure greeks arent better!fuck greece, fuck cyprus!long live turkey and the TRNC!and hope one day cyprus will turn into TRC without "N".
I am sorry YaLibnan. I like your video you can remove any of my comments that you are not comfortable with. I dont want to ruin a beautiful video with comments that will distract us from what you intended this video to be.
No, I am perfectly comfortable with your comments. This way, for anybody who doesn't know can read our conversation. I been consistently studying about these subjects for the past 4 years. I don't expect anybody to be able to remember all of this. Hope there is no hard feelings, and I thank you for you maturity on this matter.
I don't think Maltese is derived from Tunisian Arabic - I think Tunisian Arabic has heavy influences of Phoenician, from which the Maltese language is derived. from Phoenician.
I was going to say the same thing, but it would of been to longer. Please don't say think! Because you already know the answer, you are correct "kebon". Although, I would like to add that the Phoenician religion survived longer in Carthage then anywhere else till of course the Arab-Islam invasion, which had destroyed everything after Rome had rebuilt it.
In past ages it was taken as fact that Maltese is derived from Phoenician; the Maltese considered themselves Phoenician descendants mixed with Italians and Spaniards.
This lasted until around the mid 1900s when, without new evidence, the Phoenician theory was discarded and Maltese became an "arabic dialect from the Maghreb"
Yet the Tunisian dialect is very little understood by the Maltese; Libyan is absolutely unintelligible. Some Lebanese dialects are better understood.
2 things still exist in Malta. #1 50% of the Y-Chromosome came from Phoenicia. #2 As far as I know, there dialect is NOT anywhere near Arabic, and Arabs can not communicate with them. Although Lebanese and Maltese have similar words, Maltese still retains high elements of the Phoenician Language. While Lebanese still carry a dialect and the Maronite Bible contains the Phoenician/Aramaic scripture.
To "History Central", Maltese is not derived from Tunisian Arabic! If you had watch my Spencer well clips or did a little reading, then you would know the Arab invasion was the third wave of invasion threw Malta. They had no religious, no cultural nor language influence on to the people of Malta! So pretty much it is as if the Arabs had never made it. The Maltese speak Phoenician! Do not be so ignorant and believe they actually speak Arabic. How did Arabic get passed on to them?
Their DNA Is Phoenician DNA, which means they could of only came from a time when the Phoenicians were around that part of the Mediterranean, which was thousands of years ago, way before the Arabs. As for the Cypriot Lebanese Maronites, yes indeed they are holding a very important language. The Maronite Bible is not Arabic! It is Aramaic. If you listened to what they were saying or the gospels, it is the same language! The Maronite religion had came before Arabic and Islam.
They call it Arabic, and I put Arabic up there for 2 reasons. #1 It catches more attention. #2 People on Cyprus, the "Greeks" and "Turks" know nothing nor they do they care about their religion, language and culture. They automatically stereo-type them as Arabs, since in Lebanon we are considered that to by outsiders. They can not say they are Phoenician politically, because they are originally from Lebanon with a religion from there, this would start a lot of problems.
Since many Islamic scholars consider themselves Arabs, it is best to just ignore them, but we all know what we are not Arabs. Shamefully the word "Phoenician" is band from the Lebanese museums. By the way, "History Central" be very careful with what you say "Cypriot Lebanese guys", your not very convincing when you had not even stated the religion and instead said two racist. You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Also, they had CLEARY SAID THEY SPEAK LIKE THE PEOPLE DO IN LEBANON!
The translation said that, as well that was 1 of the only things I had understood from him when the old man spoke, didn't need the subtitles at that point! He said "mitleh Libnan". "Mitleh" means "like they", "Libnan" means "Lebanon". He did not say like the Arabs.
History Central stop commenting if you don't know any of this. Your just talking non-sense. I specialize in Phoenician history, archeology, religion, language and everything around it, Malta, Cyprus ect. "Kebon" is from Malta, he can understand because he sees many similarities and is well knowledge in this subject. When you are just some guy online making a bunch of false statements with no concrete evidence.
I am sorry but, you have me a pure Lebanese, a Maltese and the Cypriot Maronites here comparing everything about language, which turns out to be true. Actually my mom has a friend from Tunisia who was an ambassador. His language was African Arabic like, very close to the way people speak in Egypt. So their goes your Tunisian theory in modern days as well. HS you obviously are not from these places nor didn't do your research.
Yes, the Maltese language does retatin a high element of Phoenician, which is older then Arabic, but Phoenician did not derive from Akkadian, that is just false info. The phoencians were the first to create a Phonetic language. Egyptian Hieroglyphics, Demotic or Hieratic were too complicated and time consuming to use while Ugaritic and Babylonian Cuneiform were on their way out of usage as the writting systems in the eastern Mediterranean world.
Yes, it is indeed derived from Aramaic, not Akkadian. That was my mistake.
I speak Maltese and can understand only odd words in Arabic, not even enough to know what the subject is about. Yet, I had Lebanese friends when living abroad and I realised that I could understand much more when they spoke their dialect.
"Kebon" Thank you very much for that information. I myself had never had the pleasure to speak to a Maltese. But what you just said, threw your own experience had just proven so many wrong with their political correctness crap. Lebanese is NOT Arabic!!! The language is similar only because it derived from Aramaic-Phoenician. When the Arabs invaded, it didn't make much of a difference.
Lebanese Maronite Christians and other Christians had resisted and succeeded in resisting in the Mountains of Lebanon where it was snowy and cold, when the Arabs only liked heat and desert like land. You have to put genetics, religion, culture, history and as well archeology all into context to prove your point and break some ones view based on no real information, just what politicians say it is.
You are the best! You are amazing for preaching what all Lebanese Maronite Bishops believe in! To this day, I know ignorant Lebanese Maronites that deny their Aramaic /Phoenecian identity, and call themselves Arabs. What a shame it is that they do so! Please keep helping Maronites know they are not Arab!
I know many Lebanese & Lebanese Maronites who call themselves "Arabs" we are more Mediterranean & the Arabs are more desert like, were brown & light skinned, when they are black & dark skinned. But this clip is about Cypriot Maronites, a very important topic. Let what ever Lebanese think what ever, we'll be around forever but Cypriot Maronites will not if action is not taken. By bringing together parts of Lebanese, Maltese & Cypriot Maronites, we can reconstruct Phoenician culture.
Lebanon is Phoenicia! No race is pure, true, but genetics show we are not all the same, but do come from each other. Go to any Maronite church, the priest will tell you they are Phoenician. Maronite is a religion, but like every religion, it is started with a culture. Every language has its own dialect, its own culture.
"Canaanites" and "Phoenicians" are more or less the same People. they both come from Arabia, given the Fact the similarity of these languages and the theology of those peoples to the peoples of Arabia having the same Chief-God of other Gods and Goddesses called Ella in Canaanite and Alla in Arabic. though Arabic calls God "Salam" one of the descriptions of Alla which means Peace, the canaanites also named their Capital "Dor Salem" "Jerusalem" in English or Dar us Salam in Arabic :)

Unfortunately, too many Semitic people do no think like you or I.
ANADPaul 2 years ago
ya eh :( ....but i meant to say Arab as in originally from Arabia. If u look at us then and us now, ud see there wasnt that much of a difference, hrdly any. but now we have a chance. since arabic (modern) is the most recent form of semitic, and most advanced, and also since we share similar cultures, we should try to be closer to each other. Were brothers ya? :)
xHASSUNAx 2 years ago
@ANADPaul ofcourse aramaic isnt same as arabic, thats because it its predeccessor. no one understands Old English when its being spoken u took language sciences ye? this society is bent on categorizing whatever is possible. generalize rather than categorize it brings ppl together. plus why r we arguing about this, were all Arab now so who cares. the way i c it its like this, we were all same, we split, now were together once agin. and hahah ya phoenicians were there 10000 yrs ago LMAOOO
xHASSUNAx 2 years ago
About the Old English comment, Arabic, Hebrew and Aramaic all have the same roots but Arabic did not evolve directly from Aramaic, even though it initially borrowed some of its scripts. In fact Arabic is considered more of a Southern Semitic language borrowing some from Ethiopic semitic and some from the northern Semitic languages. In the end, like you said, these ancient issues are rather academic, what matters perhaps is who we consider ourselves to be now.

exactly :P

You are always talking about Kormakitis and it's language..well my mother comes from Asomatos another maronite village, and yeshhh she learned me speaking Aramaics, you are not alone, so if you want to just get stronger get united first with Asomatos and Agia Marina and then we can learn Aramaics.

Hi YaLibnan TV
I thought yourt video was very interesting. I often read that the village of Lourijina in cyprus was originally Maronite.

The Maronite's Language is the Aramaic-Syriac, and Kormikiti is a living evidence of that. although we are still using it in our holy Mass, and trying to relive it in our day by day.

Very interesting. I am Lebanese and I know a girl who's mother is Lebanese Cypriot and Maronite however they don't speak Arabic only Greek.
LonLeb 4 years ago 4
As these 2 short documentaries show, they are loosing there Aramaic language, the girl and the mother are living proof of this. They actually speak a form of Aramaic/Phoenician, the same language from the Maronite bible. This is where the Lebanese dialect originates from, not Arabic.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
The Maronite bible that I have is in the Arabic fous7a. It does contain some non Arabic words however.
LonLeb 4 years ago
@YaLibnanTV I believe the Lebanese language is arabic, and its dialect, like the Syrian is heavily influenced by Aramaic, Phoenician, and the other languages that have been prominent in the area.

My dear Lebanese friends,
Maltese is derived from Tunisian Arabic. (which has heavy Phoenician elements from its past).
The Cypriot Lebanese guys are holding on to a great language, they called it "Arabic" nothing else...
Arabic is the unfier of all ancient Semitic languages. Lebanon Spoke mixed Arabic/Aramiac since the PreIslamic Ghassanid days.
HistoryCentral 4 years ago
I don't think Maltese is derived from Tunisian Arabic - I think Tunisian Arabic has heavy influences of Phoenician, from which the Maltese language is derived. from Phoenician.
kebon 4 years ago
I was going to say the same thing, but it would of been to longer. Please don't say think! Because you already know the answer, you are correct "kebon". Although, I would like to add that the Phoenician religion survived longer in Carthage then anywhere else till of course the Arab-Islam invasion, which had destroyed everything after Rome had rebuilt it.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
In past ages it was taken as fact that Maltese is derived from Phoenician; the Maltese considered themselves Phoenician descendants mixed with Italians and Spaniards.
This lasted until around the mid 1900s when, without new evidence, the Phoenician theory was discarded and Maltese became an "arabic dialect from the Maghreb"
Yet the Tunisian dialect is very little understood by the Maltese; Libyan is absolutely unintelligible. Some Lebanese dialects are better understood.
kebon 4 years ago
2 things still exist in Malta. #1 50% of the Y-Chromosome came from Phoenicia. #2 As far as I know, there dialect is NOT anywhere near Arabic, and Arabs can not communicate with them. Although Lebanese and Maltese have similar words, Maltese still retains high elements of the Phoenician Language. While Lebanese still carry a dialect and the Maronite Bible contains the Phoenician/Aramaic scripture.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
To "History Central", Maltese is not derived from Tunisian Arabic! If you had watch my Spencer well clips or did a little reading, then you would know the Arab invasion was the third wave of invasion threw Malta. They had no religious, no cultural nor language influence on to the people of Malta! So pretty much it is as if the Arabs had never made it. The Maltese speak Phoenician! Do not be so ignorant and believe they actually speak Arabic. How did Arabic get passed on to them?
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
Their DNA Is Phoenician DNA, which means they could of only came from a time when the Phoenicians were around that part of the Mediterranean, which was thousands of years ago, way before the Arabs. As for the Cypriot Lebanese Maronites, yes indeed they are holding a very important language. The Maronite Bible is not Arabic! It is Aramaic. If you listened to what they were saying or the gospels, it is the same language! The Maronite religion had came before Arabic and Islam.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
They call it Arabic, and I put Arabic up there for 2 reasons. #1 It catches more attention. #2 People on Cyprus, the "Greeks" and "Turks" know nothing nor they do they care about their religion, language and culture. They automatically stereo-type them as Arabs, since in Lebanon we are considered that to by outsiders. They can not say they are Phoenician politically, because they are originally from Lebanon with a religion from there, this would start a lot of problems.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
Since many Islamic scholars consider themselves Arabs, it is best to just ignore them, but we all know what we are not Arabs. Shamefully the word "Phoenician" is band from the Lebanese museums. By the way, "History Central" be very careful with what you say "Cypriot Lebanese guys", your not very convincing when you had not even stated the religion and instead said two racist. You obviously don't know what you are talking about. Also, they had CLEARY SAID THEY SPEAK LIKE THE PEOPLE DO IN LEBANON!
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
The translation said that, as well that was 1 of the only things I had understood from him when the old man spoke, didn't need the subtitles at that point! He said "mitleh Libnan". "Mitleh" means "like they", "Libnan" means "Lebanon". He did not say like the Arabs.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
History Central stop commenting if you don't know any of this. Your just talking non-sense. I specialize in Phoenician history, archeology, religion, language and everything around it, Malta, Cyprus ect. "Kebon" is from Malta, he can understand because he sees many similarities and is well knowledge in this subject. When you are just some guy online making a bunch of false statements with no concrete evidence.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
I am sorry but, you have me a pure Lebanese, a Maltese and the Cypriot Maronites here comparing everything about language, which turns out to be true. Actually my mom has a friend from Tunisia who was an ambassador. His language was African Arabic like, very close to the way people speak in Egypt. So their goes your Tunisian theory in modern days as well. HS you obviously are not from these places nor didn't do your research.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
In fact the semitic part of the Maltese language retains a high element of Phoenician, which is older than Arabic and deriving from Akkadian roots.
europarl 4 years ago
Yes, the Maltese language does retatin a high element of Phoenician, which is older then Arabic, but Phoenician did not derive from Akkadian, that is just false info. The phoencians were the first to create a Phonetic language. Egyptian Hieroglyphics, Demotic or Hieratic were too complicated and time consuming to use while Ugaritic and Babylonian Cuneiform were on their way out of usage as the writting systems in the eastern Mediterranean world.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
Europarl?
#1 Do you speak Arabic or Maltese? because Maltese is not classified as an Arabic language just cause...
#2 Phoenician is Western Semitic more than Aramiac or Hebrew. Akkadian is a desert Semitic Eastern Branch closer to Arabic than Phoenician
HistoryCentral 4 years ago
Yes, it is indeed derived from Aramaic, not Akkadian. That was my mistake.
I speak Maltese and can understand only odd words in Arabic, not even enough to know what the subject is about. Yet, I had Lebanese friends when living abroad and I realised that I could understand much more when they spoke their dialect.
kebon 4 years ago
"Kebon" Thank you very much for that information. I myself had never had the pleasure to speak to a Maltese. But what you just said, threw your own experience had just proven so many wrong with their political correctness crap. Lebanese is NOT Arabic!!! The language is similar only because it derived from Aramaic-Phoenician. When the Arabs invaded, it didn't make much of a difference.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
Lebanese Maronite Christians and other Christians had resisted and succeeded in resisting in the Mountains of Lebanon where it was snowy and cold, when the Arabs only liked heat and desert like land. You have to put genetics, religion, culture, history and as well archeology all into context to prove your point and break some ones view based on no real information, just what politicians say it is.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
You are the best! You are amazing for preaching what all Lebanese Maronite Bishops believe in! To this day, I know ignorant Lebanese Maronites that deny their Aramaic /Phoenecian identity, and call themselves Arabs. What a shame it is that they do so! Please keep helping Maronites know they are not Arab!
AgiosGiorgios 4 years ago
I know many Lebanese & Lebanese Maronites who call themselves "Arabs" we are more Mediterranean & the Arabs are more desert like, were brown & light skinned, when they are black & dark skinned. But this clip is about Cypriot Maronites, a very important topic. Let what ever Lebanese think what ever, we'll be around forever but Cypriot Maronites will not if action is not taken. By bringing together parts of Lebanese, Maltese & Cypriot Maronites, we can reconstruct Phoenician culture.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
...back to what it should of been.
YaLibnanTV 4 years ago
I respect your desire to attach your self to Phoenicia. After all race is an illusion and you are what you choose to be :)
Most Maronites identify themselves as Arameans and Arabs, Some are even Franks (Doueihi)
You already know this, but remember Maronite is a religion!
HistoryCentral 4 years ago
Lebanon is Phoenicia! No race is pure, true, but genetics show we are not all the same, but do come from each other. Go to any Maronite church, the priest will tell you they are Phoenician. Maronite is a religion, but like every religion, it is started with a culture. Every language has its own dialect, its own culture.

Please be patient for the first half of the clip. You will begin to understand the importance of this crisis.
