today in science class (we're in 7th grade) the part about, "It's called 'SEX!'" EVERYONE was talking about it!!! everyone was like, freaking out too xDD it was so silent after that xDD so funny
GIVE ME A LIKE IFTHIS IS THE BEST PART. IN METAPHASE THE MIDDLE OF THE CELL IS WHERE THE SPINDLES GIDE EACH CHROMOSOMES ON SPIDER WEB LIKE TREADS THAT MAKE THE CENTROMERES LINE UP AT EQUATORRRRRRRRRRRRRR ANDDDDDDD LATERRRRRRR IN ANAPHASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
@madisonmmp Back when I was in middle school in the 1970s we actually had a class called "sex education" that helped inform us so we wouldn't fall prey to teen pregnancy, STD's or other dilemmas and dangers but that was before the "wrong wing" (not "right" at all) anti-science book-burning folks made reproductive biology and enlightenment something to be feared. So I felt I had to throw a little reference to what the topic of mitosis and meiosis really is about in the song. Thanks for commenting
Actually it is a very good video, or as I call it biosong. I showed it to my students and they enjoyed and some sang along. Good work. I personallly enjoyed the sixties style. Thanks a lot. Greetings from Monterrey Mexico.
@dcfox77 True that dcfox, but my "melodic-mnemonic method" was never about what the video consumer takes home, but rather what the students who PRODUCE the videos took home. The memorization comes in the process of making the video ... researching the topic, creating the lyrics and the rhymes, hunting for the pictures, putting it together, spending hours editing, rehearsing the song, etc. We called that "studying" in my class. We believed that rote memorization through repitition was important
@dcfox77 What we were looking for was a more enjoyable way to do the repitition. And we realized that creating a song or video meant a lot of repitition. So that was how we studied. If "audiences" got something from watching what we did we hoped they would be inspired to make their own, or even take a song we wrote and put their own pictures to it. By the time they were done they would understand the topic better. But if all they learned was that interphase is the growth phase, that's cool too!
This helped so much, our biology teacher is in china at the moment so we must teach ourselves and what better way to learn than through the medium of music! Awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it! We first composed it in South Central L.A. in our High School biology class in the early 90's, then revived it at the American University in Cairo for freshman biology students. Hope you guys will compose your own songs and "bring the textbook to life". Science should be fun, don'tcha think?
was shown again, Greetings from Rockville Maryland February 3, 2012 - This music is still helping classes understand cellular mitosis! thanks
