@grubburg The pattern he's playing is { rr ll r l R l rr ll r l r l R l r l } i wrote the accented notes as capitals. Basically, if you think of it as 16th notes you're just playing 1e+a 2e+a 3e+a 4e+a but doubling beat "1" and then the "+" of beat two with accents on beats 2 and 4. Enjoy.

I'm left handed but play a right handed kit(crossed) but I absolutely suck at leading with my right hand like you do in this vid.

Should I try drumming the other way round, or is there anything I can do to make my right hand less pathetic?

i'm right handed, play on a right handed set up, but i lead with my left hand on the hats (playing open). my left hand was (and is, but to a lesser degree) pathetic, but i stick with it cause i need both my hands to work, and yea...

i would think that just practicing (or just using it more) with your right hand would make it faster and better coordinated.

You can get used to any set up if you just practice. You will eventually build of strength in your right hand.

If you do a lot of things you can only do with your left hand (writing, etc.) try and even it out by doing as many things as you can with your right (opening doors, etc.). Your left hand has had the benefit of years of use, while your right has near enough barely been used.

The reason I play a right handed kit is that I do different things with different hands.

I can't play on hihats for example with left hand but when I do a fill I always try to lead with my left.

I play badminton/tennis, throw balls, wipe my ass with my right but write and brush teeth with my left.

So I'm well used to using my right hand for stuff and even playing drums right handed, just not when it comes to fills/rudiments

what i've been waiting for is an effective way to translate rudiments into good drum beats and fills, that is without wasting the effort of double strikes on things that could be done with a right/left pattern. everyone always puts out vids of individual fills, but no1 ever puts out a method of making your own patterns.

absolutely love your videos. this isn't the first time i've said it, but your teaching method is incredibly effective. it just clicks. thanks for putting all these out man.
