  • @brojoe1000 Wrong. So very wrong. Trumpets are beast.

  • Wanted to play trumpet band director said no

    Forever trombone true story bro

  • My father whistled this tune incessantly all his life when he was concentrating on fixing/building/inventing something. How we moaned 'whistle something else Dad! 'and it was a joy to play it at his funeral.

  • :) This play is one of my grandad favorites. It makes me think of him. He passed away in October. He loved Broadway and musicals <3

  • 26 people think he didn't do good to the city.

  • haa i <3 this cuz imma trombone playerr :)

  • Im reminicing elementary band class. C.O.2003.

  • thats a whole lotta trombones.

  • @megaexplosions

well the song is called 76 trombones...

  • 1:04 if you look very closely, you can see a bassoon section... Best band ever...

  • Is there a problem with the scene just being a spectacular ending to a fantastic movie. Enough said.

  • The majorette at 1:37. That was me in high school. Sorry bandos.

  • I find this scene praticuly intersting becuase i play bassoon, but am not allowed to march with it in my band. Instead i play trombone. I hope the veiw of the bassoons in here will convince my teacher to let my becuase I am a god on bassoon but not so much on trombone.

  • this a movie jellyfish, get the fuck over it, and who the hell needs that many trombones?

  • @mw2addictish the music man

  • @blahblahdedah Yep my high school marches with bassoons.

  • AHHHHH ORCHESTRAS BETTER THAN BAND!!!!!

    this is still awesome tho

  • Comment removed

  • You do realize they aren't even playing? They're walking down the street without any music more than likely....

  • Critics may be missing the point by pointing out the obvious deficiencies in the marching. If the lack of precision weren't intentional, would they have left in the "blooper" of Luckey hitting Everett on the back of the head with the baton? Think of what this scene would look and feel like if the band were marching with Nazi-like precision. This musical has allegorical meaning to it and if you think about when it was made and when/where it was set you'll understand why this ending is just right.

  • our band (I'm on color guard) did this for the memorial day parade in my town and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since lol

  • @w00tuser101 I played sax 8 yrs in band long ago. Try something fun with this video --- open a new window & find 'I've Got Nothing But Time' by David Ruffin (or click my name here - that's my current feature). Play it and mute the sound while you watch THIS one. Would it not make a KILLER marching band song?!!! Just as Ruffin was singing 'baby, you & me together', Shirley Jones joined Robert Preston arm in arm! Anybody else try this? Let me know what you think. Has this been scored for band?

  • Love this movie, the old and the revised one with Mathew Broderick (sp?).

Its not fail, if you watched the movie, you'd know that he was a con man and not a real music director. Of course posture is bad, lines crooked, bouncing ridiculously, and their step is off. They were never supposed to be a band anyway, just another scheme to take the money and run. Watch the movie, this or the new one; you'll understand.

  • I play trombone :)

  • ...needs more cowbell.

  • The Music man ???????? Saw a bit on the SAMmY DAVIS page, I may try for O levels thanks to the education I get on YOU TUBE, Life is getting better

  • those drummer boys are so out of step its reallly annoying :P

  • I would love to have timpanis like that lol

  • well i think there in perfect step and your just jealous that you can't be famous like them

  • Wait...y r they marching with concert instruments?

  • @tiffkid12 wow, you're parents should have aborted you rather than give birth to blatant stupidity. "Concert" instruments are band instruments, stupid fu*K. Get educated, moron

  • @aradia8377 Dont be a jerk.

  • @aradia8377 Your* And there are all different types of instruments. Not all of them are concert instruments.

  • @aradia8377

go to hell and rot you b*stard. And I am educated! I play a f*cking marching french horn!

  • O.O HOWD THEY ALL FIT?

  • Yes, the two drummer boys are most definitely out of step. All the rest are right in step, however. I recently looked at this Robert Preston/Shirley Jones version of "The Music Man" and noticed those two drummer boys. I guess no one thought we would notice. They do not know film fans!

The film is a "fantasy" in many ways. The costumes magically change prior to this finale, and so does the size of the band. I think some here need a bit more imagination. IMHO

  • MARCHING BASSOONS!!!!

  • They have Double Bell euphoniums

  • thats a lot of boys' band members for river city iowa...

  • Wish our small town suddenly had all those teen boys who didn't seem to be there before pop up out of nowhere.

  • i love this song!!!!!!!

  • nkanobi: courageous of you to post a view of a movie with credits. Or is it now pubic domain? Was it before your time? Did you synch the sound from a separate aural? If I were the engineer or any of the actors, I'd get compensation from you for the distorted motion and camera eye opinion on what is a great work of musical entertainment. In any event, I suddenly thought of the piece, 76 Trombones, and like the sound here.

  • @s0tanya0k

    wow. like english please!

  • we were auditioning for this play and it aked 'do you play any instruments' my friend answered '76 trombones... at once'

  • What song did Ronny Howard sing that had to do with whistling? Not sure what to look for on You Tube.

  • @NurseBevable I know he was in Wells Fargo Wagon, not sure if he sang another one or not.

  • @NurseBevable "Wells Fargo Wagon"; he had a lisping solo part. He also sang on "Gary, Indiana".

  • @dormantone That's right. It was the lisping. My husband told me he sang "Gary, Indiana" because there weren't any "s's" in it. Thank you.

  • those baton girls must be french horny to be able to make 76 people get a tromboner. lol

  • 76 trombones? Boring... Show more of the marching bassoons!

  • We had to watch this in class like ~ last year in 6th grade :O

  • THIS IS THE WORST SONG EVER BECAUSE MY BROTHER LIKES IT. NO DUBSTEP REMIX FAIL.

  • @mewtwopoke The fact that your name is "mewtwopokemon" without the "mon" is fail- this song is worth more than your puny troll life you little brat.

  • This town square was built on the backlot of Warner Brother's Studios. I was on the tour in 1997. It was also used for Back to the Future.

  • Well, count them. Ronny Howard was one, Potsie Weber was 2, Ralph was 3, Fonzie was 4th...

  • I have to watch this movie XO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha 137 people 1/3 of the size of arcadia hahaha XD stupid arcadia i love them

our band only has 3...for now

  • 76 trambones hit the big parade............. sorrryy school play :)

  • Man, Shirley Jones was a prime piece of ass in her day!

  • does anyone have seventy six trombones arranged by paul jennings as an MP3 download for free?

  • I just got a headache

  • Err... I spy a bassoonist at 1:02.

  • ima trombone :D

  • I am proud to be a Trombone and I am going to sing this song for my Show Choir audition. (now if only i could dance as well as i sing and play trombone.)

  • LOL

    IN THE BEGINNING HE'S CRYING?

  • TROMBONES FORTHEF***INGWIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Eddrickthepokefan sorry hon. trumpets win. every time :)

  • i played this <33333

  • love. this. song.

  • this movie pretty much inspired Disney to build main street USA at disneyland, in fact when listening to the background music, u can hear one of the Music Man's soundtrack

  • In 1962, Jack L. Warner used the University of Southern California and the University of California at Los Angeles Bands with local Los Angeles Youth Bands in the movie. Small Town: Los Angeles, California

  • Ugh, even though its just a movie, at least hire real marchers, so that people who watch this movie wont remain ignorant about what a marching band looks like..gosh they look so bad and laughable -.-

  • @IndoMie18 Tell me about it. Their lines killed me on their corners.

  • HORN ANGLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Robert Preston, what can i say ? . Why in Gods name did they do a remake with "Mat whats his name " !!!!!!!! Silly i say, and whats even worse is that TV show the "Mat" version NOT ROBERT PRESTON'S , its a disgrace. Pearse doran , Ireland.

  • 19 people doesn't have a Trumbone

  • @tytynguyen

One person doesn't have good grammar.

  • I had a friend, Ira Nepus, who was one of the trombonists in this movie. I think this was filmed at Disneyland ... but I forget.

  • Thats my barney, that tubas my barney, Joey, thats joeys clarinet, PLAY TO ME HONEY, Davey, my davey. LOLS THATS THE FINAL LYRICS OINJ THE PLAY THATS COMING UP AT UMS.

  • I was in band until last year at Mason City High where Meredith was from and every year we play this in the band fest parade. I'm going to miss playing it this year =( but I'll gladly get to watch it.

  • This is a fail. Their posture sucks, their trombone slides aren't parallel to the ground, their lines are crooked, most of them are bouncing ridiculously and half of them aren't in step. I know my marching band sucks and the music is good, but come on this was put into a movie!

  • @jellyfish912 Don't forget what the movie was about. . .a band that was never really taught music or marching except throught the "think" system.

  • @jellyfish912 its supposed to suck... if you watch the play or movie, youll find in it the conductor is a con man who didnt teach them anything about music. and haha your marching band sucks. mine awesome, you can hear our cadences for miles

  • @bit1564 Haha. With only about 91 actual musicians (excluding color guard and drum majors) in our band, we can still be heard out of town.

  • @jellyfish912 just shut up and enjoy the music.

  • @jellyfish912 Ah, give them a break. Yes it's a movie, but it was from1962. Not to mention, I doubt any of them are actually playing. It would have been previously recorded by an *actual* band... On that note, it's more than likely a bunch of extras who were probably given less than 30min of instruction on how to march. And if all else fails... It's the town's imagination anyways :)

  • @jellyfish912 yeah... the horn angles are straight up awful..

  • @jellyfish912 A trombone slide should be Parallel plus 10 degrees. Kthx

  • WHY ARE THEIR HORN POSTURES SO CRAPPY??? D:

  • I modestly took my place

As the one and only bass

    And I oompahed

    Up and down the square!

There is more than one tuba player in this band. It doesn't quite follow the song.

  • marching bassons=complete epicness. i need to learn how to march with mine.

  • What a shame great family films like this are no longer being made ... but FOX has GLEE! LOL

  • my band only has 5 and 1 of them sucks really bad but plays loud

  • pfft trumpet = BEAST

  • All the little kids warped into highschoolers!

  • Fantastic!!! the trombones are the best instruments ever

  • Fantastic!!!

  • pfft trombones. Barry Sax for life fool

  • TROMBONES FTW!!!!

  • to be honest any good band instructor knows that trombones should march first so they dont hit people in the back of the head... ima trombone player so i know this stuff haha ive only hit 5 trumpets in the back of the head this year O.O

  • @WtfxHitmarker tell your section to tilt slightly to an angle and march with your eyes open.

  • @WtfxHitmarker i have played a trombone for 10 years and have not hit anyone in the back of the head your are supposed to keep you distance if you are close enough to hit someone you are too close plus you need to pay close attention to the speed your marching compared to the speed of the person infront of you like i said i have never hit someone in 10 years of marching

  • They're so out of step o.o

  • @Cheetoz2112

I know!!! it's driving me nuts!! and the trombones need to get those bells up or suffer the consequences!!!

  • @Cheetoz2112 you gotta remember they've been taught through the "think system," with a guy who doesn't know much about music, let alone marching.

  • @HaleyRawksYourSawks Come to my school XD

  • ...and all the band nerds go insane..... SERIOUSLY THOUGH. SEVENTY-SIX TROMBONES. WE DON'T EVEN HAVE ONE.

  • @koolkat104 I know, right? You can tell it was written by a vocal major... whataffuh, marching timpani? Still a great song, though!

  • @koolkat104 we have only one in our band.

  • @tabitha551 more than us =P

  • @koolkat104 but he sucks and is like,'OH AWESOME!I GETTA SOLO!'

  • @koolkat104 we have 5

  • @fan518 So jealous...

  • @koolkat104 dont for get 110 cornets!!

  • THIS IS A HORRIBLY DISPROPORTIONATE BAND! AND WHO THE HELL PUTS THE TROMBONES IN THE FRONT?

  • @electrkmayhem the only band that has the trombone as the main instrument.

  • @electrkmayhem most bands do that

  • Yeah, marching band is still cool.

  • HOW THE FUCK DO YOU FIND THAT MANY TROMBONE PLAYERS IN ONE TOWN

    IM BEING MINDRAPED HERE

  • Check out the Oscar-nominated movies in 1976 -- the 200th birthday of the United States. Bound for Glory is a 1976 American biographical film starring David Carradine as folk singer Woody Guthrie

  • This was back when marching band was cool...pity it still isn't considered that way

  • I'm playing cymbal in this song x]

  • Im going to be performing in this at my school (I'll be Oliver Hix) XD

  • at 2:09 the middle sousaphone players face in full screen. LOL

  • @zerocool7785 This is strange, I didn't write what you replied to. Ive never seen this video.

  • and how exactly are we planning on doing that scene on stage?

  • trombones rule. that's why woodwinds and cornets come after them in the song. :)

  • 76 trombones...

    still not enough.

  • .....OMG!!!!! Go to 2:13-2:16

  • Happy Birthday, Elvis! It's almost January 8, 2011, which makes you a grand total of 76 years young!

  • Color movies from the 50s were a bit TOO bright. It's almost like saying "LOOK! This movie is in COLOR" in the same way that some companies that make "sourdough bread VERY sour as if to say "We're so authentic, our bread is 10 times more sour than the original!"

  • @shmuli9 What about movies from the 1960s, such as this one (1962)? ;-D

  • @rainlori Same thing! (I THOUGHT this was from the early 60s, but there were so many comments on other pages about this being from 1957, I foolishly figured that I couldn't be right, and all those people could be wrong.) And on mid-60s TV, people on TV wore some rather outlandish colours, as if to prove to the viewing audience "SEE? It's in COLOUR! Wooooo..."

  • Hut, two, three, four, guide, guide...even tho' the marchers didn't stay in step, I still loved the songs and the movie. Thanks for postin'.

  • i love the trombone. I'm glad i played it in high school

  • stewie - you're not the only one. I was section leader, trombones!

  • this is based off mason city, iowa! my home town♥

  • Look on the Warner Bros exterior sets and try to pick out the buildings

    - Midwest Street (Business & Residential -

1:56 Church - Notice in the photo on the Warner Bros sight how big the tree is now.

  • I love movies love movies like this! It just makes you want to go and buy a bowler cap and wear 40-50 era clothing, then sing about the streets smacking gangsters with my awesome walking cane! I mean... wearing bowler caps and singing....

  • Me!!!

  • When you compare this ending to the ending in the movie Matthew Broderick starred in, you can tell how Marching band has changed.

  • @CAP118 WITH A FUCKING HUNDRED AND TEN CORONETS RIGHT BEHIND

  • @zerocool7785 FOLLOWED BY THE FINEST GOD DAMN VIRTUOSOS, THE CREAM OF EVERY FUCKING FAMOUS BAND.

  • @CAP118 And nary a hymie in the bunch.

  • The bands are from The University of California and USC.
