  • lets do it again !!! haha you love it Gavin

  • nothing too fancy Gavin ?. its a £600 lens, your trigger is a few quid lol... love your videos i can watch them over and over, mind you i have to, so it all sinks in

  • @stecartmel i got the same lens and camera :D

  • Really digging the "Girls Gone Wild" music there. ;)

  • Thanks for the video, we did great pictures! But the best pictures we used the flash to shoot through the bottle (from its base). Here you can see our result: witzmann.tk (portfolio - studio photography - last picture in the album)

  • @gimili87 Wow ... that's amazing... Great photo the red and the blue are a great combination...

  • Excellent fun!!! I am gone try this!!

  • Hands down, you're the man!

  • I'm questioning how would this work without a wireless receiver, but with internal flash that would fire the external flashgun? Would that work? I don't have a flasgun yet, so I can't actually test it out, so...

If anyone is interested in helping me out, please do so. :)

    Btw, Gavin, you're the best!

  • @mproxxx yes the if you use this nikon system or the system in the 600d/60d/7d it would ...

  • love ur accent

  • ello gavin

  • cheers for the tutorial mate your so helpful

  • awesome

  • Excellent

  • What if you wanted to do this on a back background? Also, would a slave flash work?

  • it is awesome ........... thank you so much

  • Yourrrr accennnnttttt :O<3<3!

  • Thanks for the guide!

  • Gavin, I'm interested in the clamp setup you have there. I see 3 clamps but how are the top two connected?

  • 7 people are... well, you know.

  • As soon as that music started, I was expecting the water to be thrown on some college teenager's white t-shirt. Haha, it's the same music from the Girls Gone Wild infomercials.

  • Using MF?

  • Thank you! Its very funny and positive tutorial :)

  • what did you use? syrup? or is it water mixed with edible color? thanks

  • @ashkibala1 He said he used food coloring.

  • thank you gavin!!!

  • I really love your style of teaching.. Cant wait to try it myself .. :)

  • Is there a way to do this without a remote flash? I would like to try this out, but my budget is really limited as i am studying right now, and i don't have a job. Could i use a permanent light source, like a desk lamp or something like that to point at my background instead?

  • where this crap accent come from ? . _.

  • @eacbn crap? he has awesome accent and it's british.

  • Gavin, this feature is absolutely great.

We reproduced your setup with our photo group, and it's dead simple.

I took my pictures with a remotely fired Metz 58AF-1C, pointing towards the background, and my results were quite the same.

All you need is a little time for prep and repeating the process, and a little timing (because the flash needs to recharge; this can ruin your run ;o)

Little hint for beginners: Do a dry run first to get the settings (manual mode) and the focus, and use a tripod.

  • i got a question, can i just use the speed light such as sb 600 flash as slave while my camera is at commander mode?

  • L lens ain't fancy? what bullshit is that -.-

  • "Where is that towel??"

I lought alot in that part.

  • I love your tutorials, your the best Gavin :)

  • Gavin I have a tip for you:

Fill the bottle with beer or whiskey and you can have an after-shoot celebration!

  • where did you get the clamp to hold the bottle? what is it called so i can get one myself? thnx

  • Thanks really much for that! I have never known how to shoot photos like this, but now I know, thanks for that!

  • Ughh!! I can't hear that song without "Girls Gone Wild"!! ads seeping into my brain! Awesome video, though.

  • great

  • Great video Gavin and I can't wait to try out this technique in my meager little studio at home. The choice of song does make me laugh a bit because like others have mention it's the same used in the Girls Gone Wild ads. lol

  • Great videos!

Also though, pretty sure that music you're using is the same music that Girls Gone Wild uses for their commercials...

  • love the look of your vids will sit and watch them properly later when have some time x

  • This is the Girls Gone Wild intro music. Very classy.

  • @sdflksdfkfh Love the Steel Drums. Hey, the video's supposed to be fun, not classy. Aren't GGW videos fun?

  • How do you do to get this pure and shiny white background?

  • Super like this Sir!

  • thanks for inspiration!

  • the 6 people who don't like photography are SUCKERS

  • Thanks, I have a question: I own a Nikon D40 and i´m looking for a flashgun which can be used on the camera, but also be used as a remote flash, activated using the radio-controller attached to the camera´s flash socket. Which cheap option would you recommend, if any? Thanks!

  • this music is EPIC

  • "Nothing too fancy there"

    Canon 40d is >2000 $.. 8)

  • @Achw3l hahahahaha exactly! xD

  • @Achw3l its actually like less than $1000...

  • @Achw3l compared to other fancy cameras out there nd the top of the lines ones its not too fancy in truth...

  • @Achw3l actually is/and was not.

    with 2000 you could buy a 7d

  • @Achw3l First of all, it's not over 2000, not even close, especially not by the time he uploaded this vid. Second the body has really no influence over the pictures at all here. Well that's not true, the megapixel changes from camera to camera. Since he's using a flash and a average lens here, you could basically do this with any DSLR.

  • @Achw3l And the lens is 1100$

  • @Achw3l canon 40d 800$

  • This guy is FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!

  • @TooHuman Also this music is FUCKING AWESOME!!!!! >.<

  • @univo HAHAHA It is indeed xD

  • nothing fancy about an l-series lens? ;) haha

i love your videos, they are full of great tips and they are nice to watch -- never boring or dull! i sell d-slrs where i work and i have recommended many of your videos to customers.

  • very nice

  • Thank God I found you, Mr. Gavin!

  • Nothing fancy?.. Dude i have to photograph with a Sony Powershot!

  • HEY wht is the white background made out of? or can u give me a link of where to buy it?

  • i like your video.i wondering, how do you make border of photo.thank you for everything.

  • simple technique result in great photo!

  • Excellent tutorial! Thanks!

  • Amazing,very good tutorial,thanks!

  • hi I have a question, how can I provide such a bright light on the backround? What equpment can I use, beside professional lightning equpment? Thanks

  • I have a question, gow can I provide such a bright backround? what light shall I use. Does it have to be profesional photo equpment? Or can I make it myself?

    Thanks

  • love the music!!

  • English or Australian, that is the question..

Looks like there are 5 people gave thumbs down from other Photo tutorial sites... Hehehe...

  • Hey hey great video, i´ve just suscribe your channel i loved this video, soon im gonna be checking your whole material.

    Thanks for your work mate!

    and keep uploading!

  • Hi guys come and see my travel photography vlog on my channel

  • Really interesting, ive did this soon after watching this video by mixing in some sunflower oil and food colouring, odviously the 2 dont mix, so when they leave the bottle it gives some nice effects, though when i did this i did it with continious lighting with a sunlight bulb that my mum uses for painting. because the flash i have is rubbish, with no control at all.

  • Hi Gavin I would like to take some photos of 3 champagne glasses on a white background with red, blue and green colour drops and show the effect of how the colour mixes with water. I have already tried but I haven't got any white backgorund but grey background. Maybe you can help. thanks

  • OMG, I thought photographers used tons of flash guns to achieve the effect

  • Nice, I loved watching this video. Going to see what else you have!

  • Question: at 2:04 you mention that the shutter speed must be the synch speed of your camera. Could you elaborate what this means? Is the synch speed something you adjust on the flash? I guess I do not know what synch speed is.

    The Meltdownman

  • @meltdownman1 : Allthough I'm not PhotoGavin, may I respond to your question?

An external flash device like the one in the video (most of the DSLR flash devices do this) can only sync with the camera up to 200th of a second (that's 1/200 in your viewfinder).

If you go beyond the 200th of a second mark the flash will (if it has this possibility) use a "High Speed Sync mode" in which it fires rapidly (up to 30.000 times a second!) a little before taking the picture and after closing the shutter.

  • @meltdownman1 : The Sync-time only defines the time in which a flash device can still fire a flash at full power within the shutter-curtain-open moment.

Because during High Speed Sync-mode flashes the output is reduced to 70% of the regular power it uses when firing a normal flash.

  • @Dutch3DMaster Thank you Dutch for taking the time for a clear and concise explanation of Hi Speed Synch and what is going on between the flash and the camera. It is much appreciated.

    The Meltdownman

  • Love it !! You did Tremendous Job !!

  • :) You can see you've got fun in your job,

    Nice work though :D

  • Thanks Gavin! I've done exactly as you explained and I got amazing shot!

  • very good video, like your tips, just one thing on this video the music kinda sucks, but the rest thumbs up!

  • good stuff and thx for sharing... btw - "L" glass should always be considered "fancy" :)

  • Any suggestions on how to hook up the bottle?

  • allah bless all of us who dedicated there life teach others sharing there knowledge with other best to make there living

    kardarphotographer@yahoo.com

  • hey, his bucket is from IKEA =D

  • Thank you for sharing this idea.

  • God, I LOVE this guy!

  • what type of radio slave r u using?

  • @jgomes1992 Look for the catcus trigger v4 (gadgetinfinity d o t com). Its not these but they are cheap and reliable for amateur.

  • Hahaha i love the calypso music. Really appreciate the effort you put into these videos.

  • What type of bottle is that? I used a soft drink bottle and the water seemed to gush out too quickly. Yours seems to be a nice steady flow.

  • thanks friend

  • this is fun

  • i like the girls gone wild music

  • I like the approach of the tuts :) nice.

  • thanks for that, i have a project to do on still life photography and this has given me alot of ideas. Thanks a million =]

  • now we've taken a whole bottle full of pictures....

    LET'S DO IT AGAIN!

    lmao!

  • Great video, very informative. Just a question though... what are you focusing on before the water starts to fall down?

    Cheers

  • In the camera I set a single focus point over the bottle.

  • Thanks for your answer.

Do you use auto focus and continuous shooting also?

  • may i know what did you do with the white background please?

  • may i know what did you do with the white background please?

  • good work m8...good quality and good presentation

  • great, great, great, 10x!!!!

  • Quality video thanks. Can you please tell me where I can get that frame and clamp which you have the bottle hanging from ? thanks buddy

  • The frame is a Background support (heavy duty version). The clamp is in fact two clamps glued together holding a bigger third, bigger clamp.

  • How did you glue to two together? I'm curious! And what specific sizes were the clamps?

  • you are my mentor!!

  • i like the music lol

thanx man it was so helpful

  • wow, best tutorials on youtube! too bad i dont have photoshop :(

  • lovely Tips explained very simply without making it look complicated. Thanks.

  • Graet work boss!

  • Fantastic!

  • great job as always :)

  • Awesome. well done.

  • Just one more thing I forgot to mention. I barely look towards another tutorial, but when I do, I can see the entertainment you provide for us.

    Thanks Gavin

  • gavin your a life savor.

  • Great video again.

Thanks for showing the equipment you are using too.

  • your videos are good!!!! tks!

  • Thanks so much for this vids!

  • I live things like this that solve such simple problems in ways I would never think of (like turning the bottle upside-down).

  • super duper video tutorial :-)

    thanks a lot

  • I love your work Gavin and thanks for helping the whole community.

One thing I notice on the tilted picture - you used the free transform tool but the photo needs more work. The liquid in the bottle would be horozontal with the floor . Maybe needing more PS work. I know in your bag of tricks you could soon fix this ... picky aren't I?.

  • Gavin you are so cool i try out every thing in your videos....Thank you

  • Gavin you're an inspiration.

  • Woow, I'd like to try this, just like the falling waterdrop and the smoke you photographed!

I guess I gotta get me a external flash :)

  • Gavin is an art hero. Warm regards from Las Islas Filipinas!
