  • AWESOME VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!

  • People still think that Carol Kaye played on this track?? Listen to the master tracks on the Standing In The Shadows of Motown CD.....there's no doubt you're hearing the Fender Precision Funk Machine.

  • GOD is black after all ;-) Hey! Hey! Hey! x

  • Heard that when the legal stuff was being thrown about a couple of the funk brothers and others said they would swear affidavids in court that it was Jamerson on bass as they were present ..Kaye backed off

  • I've always loved this song ever since I heard it for the first time! (: Everlasting

  • Has anyone ever thought that it could be Jamerson on drums(read that he played drums) and Carol Kaye on bass? just a thought

  • to all those still saying Jamerson rules you all are half right James Jamerson and Carol Kaye rule enuf said 2 of the most underrated bassists

  • one of the greatest song ever written (and the vocal delivery ! and instrumentation ! and he was 17 ! ) wow !

  • Jamerson Trivia Guess who was the one who helped him get work in the 1970's? none other than my new BFF he also had nothing but nice things to say about her how do I know this because my my new BFF told me all this my new BFF you're are wondering is none other than Carol Kaye and for the record she's not delusional

  • @coolsweetgroovy Just a little confused, remind her that she played Jamerson's bass line on THE BEACH BOY'S cover of "I Was Made To Love Her".

  • @kyuss2922 Yeah

  • Is it just me or is this the album version dubbed on top of video?

  • One of my all time favorites by Stevie too. Nice of you to give a shout out to Jamie Jamerson. Premier bass player for Motown and other places to. What blew me away was that I just found out that he played bass on "What's Going On," "What's Happening Brother," "Flyin' High," "Save the Children," "God Is Love," on the What's Going On album with Marvin Gaye. I LOVE the bass in those songs but never knew it was Jamie. Cool.

  • @Annettesmusic I think his name was JAMES not JAMIE!

  • @tacoque

May be so but I feel like I know him, so I affectionately call him Jamie.

  • I Used to want to play harmonica, but since i heard Stevie's songs, i don't want to learn, I NEED TO LEARN!!!!!

  • Carol Kaye and James Jamerson rules enuf said

  • Brilliant Man,he has the fire!!!!!

  • 2 people don't like this song really? can we all at least agree that this is just wrong

  • HEY lets put this to rest right now, it's her man ,Carol kaye.. Reason being to all who say she never played for motown you are right. This song was not released on the motown label it was released on the Tamla label. James Jamerson played for motown. So please do your homework its Carol kaye and yes she can play Bass and shes white ok. Im black and I play bass. So what! IT'S HER

  • @albclef You're slightly wrong Carol did play for Motown and remember Tamla-Motown?

  • @coolsweetgroovy Hey Im not here to go throught this man. I don't know how old you are but Motown and tamla are not the same label. Tamla was owned by motown. If you were a musican back in the day and even today in some cases you had contracts as a studio musican to play with or for certain labels. James was with motown Carol could not play for motown because he had the contrac. Just do your research. Like I said the two labels had diff players.

  • @albclef Uh, NO! I have to jump in here. The Funk Brothers of which Mr. James Jamerson was one, played on recordings for ALL Motown Record Corporation labels including those for Tamla, Soul, Gordy, VIP, etc etc. Berry simply made up the names for his different labels as a marketing strategy, nothing more. They all recording in Studio A at Hitsville in Detroit intially with some work done at other studios around town. Carol Kaye is not on this record!

  • @DetroitLives313 I have to jump in again Carol Kaye played for both Motown and Tamla enuf said Berry Gordy screwed as many people he made into stars including Carol Kaye and Jamerson and the funk brothers

  • Comment removed

  • @coolsweetgroovy From the Jamerson website: "The performance credit that Carol has pursued with the greatest tenacity over the years is the bass part on Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made to Love Her". Hank Cosby who co-wrote, produced it, "was there every step of the way from the writing of the song to the day the 45's were shipped", vehemently denied any participation by Carol Kaye on this recording. Cosby also signed an affidavit similar to Brian Holland's attesting to Jamerson's performance. "

  • @kyuss2922 Yawn whatever

  • @coolsweetgroovy Yeah "whatever",,,, Hank Crosby co-wrote and produced the song and is in the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. You........ are some dude on YouTube. I think I'll take Cosby's word for it. Thanks.

  • Comment removed

  • @coolsweetgroovy I do have my fathers LP records :} I grew up in the 1980 a Motown child ;)

  • @jjamo5 cool

  • The guy that said that James Jamerson played on this song does not know what he's talking about that is Carol kaye. And for your information hollland and dozozer did not produce this song it was produced by HENRY COSBY. You are right about one thing Carol Kaye didn't play for motown she played for Tamla the very lable this song was released on check your facts son, if you knew anything about James Jamerson you can tell thats not him because they are using a pick he didn't use one.

  • To answer the question who's playing the bass on this song on the Youtube search Type in The Beach Boys I Was Made To Love Her! and listen it's the exact same bass and it's being played by Carol Kaye

  • to all the people still saying this is Jamerson listen closely to the bass do you hear the bass going thump thump?(with one finger) No this is Carol Kaye if this would be Jamerson you'd hear the bass going thump thump plus that wouldn't work for this song

  • Carol Keyes although a very good Bass player in her own right has made disparaging remarks and false claims to records she says she played on. As already said afficianado's of Motown and JJ style of playing know the tracks she claims are not her playing. Most of the Funks and especially the Producers on those records categorically state its not CK or even in her style of playing. I prefer to believe the majority of the backgound musicians and not a woman who has now lost a lot of respect..

  • Who could possibly not like this song? I see 2 dislikes posted for this video. Stevie at his best!!!

  • all I know is, that bass is cooking.....

  • This does not sound like it was played with a pick on a shortscale bass by a white girl, sorry. You can try and deny it, but this is JJ all the way, and other people from the session have already come out and said so.

    FACT.

  • Listen to the tone of the bass and how warm it sounds. anyone who knows jamersons bass playing knows that he never played the same line he alwways switched it up.

    Jamerson all the way

  • Well whether or not he played on this track.. James wrote the bassline so there. nuff said. It's one of the best of all times

  • James Jamerson didn't play every last one of his songs with the hook technique. He used a two fingered technique when necessary. This is definitely Jamerson on this record.

  • Jamerson rules

  • Shoutout to all the Jamerson pushers he's already in the RandR Hall of fame(he was inducted in sometime 2003-or 04 I forgot) so he's not underrated case closed give Carol Kaye some long overdue accolades

  • if ppl were smart enought to see in the links aswell there is a video on james jamerson's prettiest bassline'' not carol kaye... its a link because he's linked thru this song..

  • Who gives a crap who's throwing down the baseline. It could be acoustic and I'd still love it. Awesome song Stevie!~

  • @babyfacenc Carol Kaye played on the Beach Boys version later that year. Jamerson played on Stevie Wonder's original version.

  • One of my favorites.

  • The bass is 100% Carol Kaye sorry fans of that Jamerson guy

  • @coolsweetgroovy Sorry but you are wrong. I know you badly want it to be Carol Kaye, but it is the legendary James Jamerson. I had it confirmed last year by Bob Babbitt of the Funk Brothers who was at the recording session in DETROIT, thus is an expert eye-witness that James Jamerson is playing on this record.

  • @DetroitLives313 I still don't believe you Jamerson was known for playing with one finger(that's all I know about him) and this so is not one finger playing so this is 100% Carol Kaye and I believe the same on all the ones credited to him P.S. The only other thing I know about Jamerson from looking at a picture of him is that he looks like he could be Stevie Wonder's dad

  • @coolsweetgroovy You can believe what you want to belive, but the truth is that it is James Jamerson playing on all those classic hits and not Carol Kaye. Everyone that was ever involved with these recordings say it is Jamerson. If you value the truth, then follow the link that has been placed in the description for this video and READ! If not, you can continue believing in a LIE!

  • @DetroitLives313 I've read the stuff and sorry I'm Team Carol Kaye and like I've said this isn't one fingered playing(what he's known for) this is 100% Carol Kaye read @ minoru1325's note P.S. I've found what I think is the only song that's 100% Jamerson Blue Bayou by Linda ronstadt i'll send it to you

  • @DetroitLives313 TALK TO UM....IT'S JAMERSON, ALL-100%JAMERSON....YOU HEAR JAMERSON IN THE THE TEMPS-JACKSON 5-FOUR TOPS-THE SUPREMES-ALL OF THE MOTOWN SOUND.....LET'S NOT FORGET EARL VAN DYKE TAUGHT STEVIE WONDER!.......YOU CAN HEAR JAMERSON ALL OVER THIS IF YOU KNOW MUSIC....POINT AND CASE LOOK TO THE SIDE ALL MUSIC/VIDEO ON "YOUTUBE" ARE "LACED"....SO THE CLOSEST THING or PEOPLE THAT ARE RELATED/AFFILIATED WILL POP UP ON THE SIDE....LOOK THERES "World's Prettiest Bassline(James Jamerson) J 5

  • @spottv It is the truth! Earl Van Dyke, James Jamerson and the Funk Brothers have played on more hit records than any other musicians in the history of recorded music and that includes anything the Beatles played on! They were some of the premier musicians of that or any other time in HISTORY!!!

  • @coolsweetgroovy One more thing, Hank Crosby, the producer of this record said that it is James Jamerson playing bass on this record. ALSO all the other songs that Carol Kaye "claimed" to have played on for Motown is not true! She made it up! Holland -Dozier- Holland, the producers and writers of all those hits have sworn an affidavit stating that it was all James Jamerson and that they had never even heard of a Carol Kaye before! You need to check it out.

  • @coolsweetgroovy dude this is totally jamerson's bass i saw a documentary on the guy and it was mentioned he did this song... sorry Carol kaye fans

  • @mishunman324 i'm still not convinced Jamerson was famous for 1 fingered playing and this isn't 1 fingered playing this is Carol Kaye

  • @coolsweetgroovy that Jamerson guy???? show a little respect huh

  • @MotownMaster I am even though I have no idea who he is

  • @coolsweetgroovy

its well documented that carol kaye may have possibly played a demo but the actual recorded album track IS James Jamerson

  • @djfobtronics Thanks there are some other people here that you should tell the same thing too that are just dissing Carol Kaye

  • @coolsweetgroovy ("that Jamerson guy"?) that was plain disrespectful!

  • @unclekipper Sorry but to me Jamerson is some random guy and he did not play on this song it's Carol Kaye who also played on the Beach boys version

  • @coolsweetgroovy sorry, whoever you are (random person), but look up James Jamerson! You're either very young, or have 'other' issues.

  • @unclekipper Yes I'm young and the only guy of the Funk Brother's that I've heard of with is Robert Uriel the drummer I think

  • There was this amazing clip of the same song on here about a year or so ago. It's now gone :( This was a black/white clip and Stevie sang live for real. I believe it was from some TV show in 1967. One of the most amazing live takes i've ever heard. If anyone could help me find this again i'd be more than happy!

  • Ray Charles should have taken lessons from Stevie about how to behave in front of women

  • Stevie lookslike he could be the son of James Jamerson

  • i've just listened to this song again a couple of days ago to answer the qustion who's playing pass it's Carol Kaye RIP James Jamerson

  • This is Carol Keye

    James Jamerson? NO

  • @minoru1325 I agree with you

  • @minoru1325 james jamerson did this bass

  • @minoru1325 It IS Jamerson. Allan Slutsky debunked Carol Kaye's delusional bullshit claims years ago

  • @minoru1325 From the Jamerson website: "The performance credit that Carol has pursued with the greatest tenacity over the years is the bass part on Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made to Love Her". "

  • HEY! HE WAS BORN IN LITTLE ROCK!

  • I still say it's Carol Kaye because with Carol you can hear her unless has anyone ever thought that Carol and that Jamerson guy have a somewhat similar technique although Carol you can hear more

  • @coolsweetgroovy I don't care what you say, it not any Carol Kaye. Bob Babbitt that was at this session and playing on this cut says it is James Jamerson sitting right across from him at the time playing on this record they did in Detroit! He confirmed this to me earlier this year. Sorry....

  • @DetroitLives313 I know but I also asked if anyone has ever thought that Carol and that Jamerson guy might have a somewhat similar technique although Carol you could hear more than that guy

  • @coolsweetgroovy You see what I take exception with is how you refer to the great James Jamerson as "that guy". It is highly disrespectful when you consider that James Jamerson and the Funk Brothers have the distinction of playing on more hit records than any other musicians in the history of recorded music and that includes more than the Beatles! James Jamerson was without peer. That is what many noted musicians and music historians have concluded.

  • @DetroitLives313 Jamerson is the only member of the Funk Brothers that i've not heard of and Do you get what I mean when i asked if anyone has ever thought that Carol Kaye and Jamerson might have a somewhat similar technique although Carol you can hear her

  • @coolsweetgroovy

do you hear any pick on this line?

  • @mugnaioo you can't hear a pick duh all you can hear is guitar and with Carol Kaye you can hear her Jameson can't really hear him but this song I hear the bass so either they have a some what similar technique or the some of the stuff credited to him might actually be Carol

  • @coolsweetgroovy

    Jamerson

  • @ampegbass Really?

  • @coolsweetgroovy - "that Jamerson guy"...? bro educate yourself and learn the difference in styles

  • @Jaguar9310 He's the only member of The Funk Brothers that I've never heard of

  • Stevie was doing just about the coolest sings back in those days. This and 'Living for the City' were both the best. Glad I was around then to hear them when they first came out.

  • @lasktguy Yes he was. We were fortunate to have been born early enough to enjoy all of the very best music. Thanks for watching!

  • Nice scaffolding....

  • So is it Jamerson or Carol Kaye on bass? I'm confused.

  • @titostacos It is the legendary James Jamerson on this recording. This was confirmed to me last year by Bob Babbitt (of the Funk Brothers) who was at this session.

  • @DetroitLives313 OK thanks. I wonder why Carol Kaye disputes it.

  • @titostacos probably jamerson of the funk brothers.

  • @smoton2 Its been confirmed that it is James Jamerson playing on this cut. It was confirmed to me earlier this year by Bob Babbitt who is also on this recording. Bob should know, he was at the session and was sitting right across from James Jamerson. Eyewitness ends speculation!

  • @DetroitLives313 WISH I HAD BEEN THERE......I LOVE LOVE LOVE MOTOWN!! I WAS A BABY AT THE TIME.

  • Still sends chills down my spine 43 years later.

  • The memories are overwhelming. Awesome song!

  • no words to describe the song, the performance, the power in the sound, in the lyrics, in the MAN ...

  • @gordonmatthewsumner I was just about to ask if you were really him.....Sting?! He is our guy, one of our favorites too! Thanks for watching.

  • @DetroitLives313 :-))) I wish I was :-))))

  • You know Stevie ain't gonna leave her

  • Best Stevie Wonder song ever!

  • what a shame musicians & singers were forced to lip-sync

  • I have always loved this song by Stevie Wonder. I remember when it came out. It brings back soo many good memories of those good ol days when times were good and music was real...

  • @tommiexander I agree with you 100%! This song and others reminds me of the great summers when I was a kid and singing in the backseat of my Dad's car! Thanks for watching.

  • @tommiexander It's one of those songs that you remember the first time you heard it. Yes, times were really good then and it's great to have grown up then. There were certain times, though, like punctuation marks in history, that stand out. It's not possible to explain to those who weren't around then, but this is a song that symbolises one of those. Great days to have enjoyed. May you enjoy peace and well-being for the rest of your life.

  • @gnomely1 I know what you mean. I was around then also. Thank you and thank for watching!

  • one of my favorite bass lines of all time! music for your soul!

  • now that's the Motown Sound!

  • always loved this track

  • amazing. You know today, ask yourself if you'll ever see a blind singer? Not if record companies trying to sell the next american idol have their way.

  • Lipsinking does help . . .

  • Nice song from Stevie Wonder the musical thunder. I lived in Lansing, MI and he attended the Michigan School for the Blind that was here. Occassionally you would see him on the grounds but never off of them.

  • awesome clip.....and very rare too........thankyou for posting it

  • You are very welcome and I am happy that you enjoyed it! Stay tuned.

  • I love my Stevie, Love my Stevie!
