This is soooo nice, The Babe is a hero, im 17 years from the netherlands baseball isnt a great sport there im playing in the dutch nl team, my dream is to just go one time to america to the yankee stadion and watch a game...
There are two major league players active today who are natives of The Netherlands: Rick Vanden Hurk (Eindhoven) and Greg Halman (Haarlem). Of course, the biggest star to come from your country was Bert Blyleven, who starred for 22 years. Glad you liked the video.
Ruth was only 53 when he died. Hard to believe that such a robust athlete weighed less than a hundred pounds at the end. At age 40, he was fat, slow, and winded. Compare that to today's players, whose high incomes allow for year-round training. Rickey Henderson could probably steal 30 bases if reactivated.
Interestingly, Babe Ruth's holdouts were frequent, and the stuff of publicity. Naturally, in the days before free agency, the team held all the cards, and, ultimately, Ruth (and everyone else) signed for what the team dictated --- or didn't play.
Baseball is not what it used to be. You have people taking steroids and using composite bats and everything else. I would like to form a origional baseball league. Imagine what ruth would do with all of the mods today.. The legal mods that it.
His name still is "Lawrence [Peter] Berra". His boyhood pals, one of whom was future player and broadcaster, Joe Garagiola, named him "Yogi", after a character they saw in a movie.
everytime im playing ball down at the local field or even in summerball i still try to step up to the plate and stand like the babe. thanks for the great memories babe
