I used to live right across the street from their when i was younger, me and my brothers used to ride our bikes around that hospital all the time. We never saw any ghost or anything out of the ordinary.
@sammilalala Me and my younger brother used to do the same thing! We lived on Kenova street, what a cool place it was, shame it's gone now. I can remember the feeling of isolation, and also like I was being watched, this was in the mid 90's.
To:Unspokenlegend09-I would love to see the photos of the inside. I was just out there taking pics of the buildings because they are getting ready to demolish the main one but I was not allowed to go inside and plus then the cops probably would have showed up because with my luck I would set off one of the alarms.
I'll go to it. If we can get inside without breaking anything that is. Anyone wanna come with me?? Send me a message and let me know, we can get a group together.
Does anyone have information on where the trip sensors are located? I was there last night and was fine (no cops came), but I got a call from a friend warning me not to go on the first floor as that's where the sensors are - guess where I was... first floor. So I sprinted out and drove away. I'd love to go back, but my biggest fear are the cops/asbestos.
my friends and i went here tonight during a football game at hummer.
it was scary as fuck we were standing there looking at it and we saw a blue light flash back and forth from tree to tree and we got out of there real quick-like! haha
I got my senior pictures for Hayden taken there. The photographer was all cool about it but I kept shivering in the middle of summer. It's just a scary place to hang around, even during the day.
A creepy place indeed, but nothing compared to some of the other asylums built in the late 1800s. In fact the architecture is so mellow here it's almost inviting compared to some I have seen online in other cities. My Dad worked here for a few years and I remember him teaching me how to drive on the grounds there before I ever got to drive on a real street. Guess my memories of it aren't as bad as some of you folks. Sorry if it sucked for ya. It's no happy place.
i was a patient there from 82-86 i was an "incorrigible teenager" from junction city sent there to screening east then they locked me up on brigham adolescent locked ward i too went to capital city high school it was bad
At 0:11 Thats where i would have been if i acted bad in 1993-1994 Im glad i did not spent my time there. Im surprised that someone show this on youtube im from topeka kansas and i attended that high school called "Capitol City High" Good thing!
so much pain and sadness in all of these buliding from the child ward to the main buliding to the old capital city buliding my mom worked at the state hospital for 6 years till it closed now all the patients just live in the streets now the grounds are so depressing even in the day time to know people lived and died and where even murdered may all of the lost souls find pieces one day
I like this place the way it is. Topeka needs more just...creepy places for us to run around. It makes things more fun. I think it would be lame if it was turned into offices or a commercial haunted house.
But I wouldn't trash it either, that would be kind of juvenile. It sucked when it happened to Mennigers.
And yeah, cops are there all the time. I just went there tonight and a cop came by, but my friend and I just jumped behind trees and he left us alone? Whatever. Neat place.
My Mother Was a patient at this horribble place until they Moved her to a nursing home where she was murdered in 1981. I have visited it many times in my 62 years.
Nice job, very cool place. Regarding the audio file, its an old song done by none other then the true master of horror rock Mr. Alice Cooper! The song is off his welcome to my nightmare lp and its called "years ago" Great choice of a haunting melody to accompany a place that has such an uneasy feeling!
I have been in the main building many times the place had bars on the windows and patients screaming for help but they say they were not mistreated that is not what I saw back in the 70's
i spent a week in topeka state hospital back in sept of 1996, right before the completely closed it down, then i moved right across the street on first street. i used to walk the grounds at night when i was preg with my daughter...it is a very spooky place.
the buildings are owned by the state and are surrounded by other state buildings. i live at second and gage the state hospital is right behind my apartments. its not that scarry. but if you go to the cemetery with 1157 graves and only about 12 stones. there right by the printing building. there are sixteen rows 0-15.
Masterful!!! Great job. Perfect music--where is it from? Best urban exploring video I've see so far. Music captures the mood perfectly. Nothing happens, and that only adds to the sense of dread!

@ShyShy2010ASL If they were tearing it down I doubt the alarms would have been working. they tend to cut power before demolition.

Those buildings down there behind Hummer would make sweet haunted houses if someone would put some effort into it.
