  • @docpain0 So glad I could help!

  • Great job on Fireball Mail. I've got an '82-model Whitestar and I will NEVER sell it. Nice to see another Whitestar player out there, too. Keep those videos coming; they're terrific!

  • @oldbanjoman What is your s/n? I've got a 1981 with s/n 1982 or vise versa, have to open it up to see

    regards olderbanjoman

  • @CaptPeetey: My Whitestar's s/n is 1957. Looks like they might've come close to sharing the same shop space.

  • @oldbanjoman :: I have lazer engraving ability and am in the process of creating an custom truss rod cover for my whitestar. Assuming your W/S head is the same as mine, I'll make you one with your name on it. Maybe if enough folks see it, some might want to pay me with real foldin' money.

Email your name and address to me.

    Thanks

  • thanks for takeing the time to help us old rusty banjo pickers your a very helpfull teacher

  • Do you believe an old dog can learn new tricks LOL I like the way you do it better than the way I learned it.

  • I can only guess how it fills to be so pretty AND play so dang good. Nice teaching too good luck with your school

  • Another great lesson!

I chuckle at how she scoots around on her little chair...no need for a camera man...she can do her own close-ups, and then pan from right hand to the left hand. Very clever.

  • Necessity is the mother of invention...

  • Nice lesson Chris. I've been wanting to learn how to play this.

  • i see, it's a STELLING BANJO, what MODEL?

  • That sure is a pretty sounding Banjo, what make is it? Hope you teach some other tunes, just so i get to hear that Banjo some more!

  • It is a Stelling Whitestar. I love my banjo!

  • You'd better love that Banjo anyone would be right proud to own a Banjo that sounded that good,Banjo Ben is the only one that MIGHT? sound better than yours! By the way i orginate from the "big City" CHICAGO, you're from ILL. right?

  • Yes, New Athens, Illinois. That is southern Illinois. I love Stelling banjos in general, but love mine better than any other one I've ever played. I guess that's a good thing since it's mine!

  • I'll Try to learn it, Thanks!!

  • I'd say this is too hard for your first song. There are lots of good books & DVDs out there. I'll send you a message with some suggestions.

  • Oh man....excellent! I have two questions. What kind of banjo is that? OK...three quetions. What kind of bridge are you using. And who showed you the left had position? I've only seen one other person wear the thumbpick up where you do, and she also bends her thumb. It's Cia Cheryholmes. Great sound. That puts the the thumbpick at the same position as the fingerpicks. And the angle of your wrist gives you great attack on the stings. Thanks.

  • Hi Randy - I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I taught myself how to play banjo when I was 13 from Pete Wernick's "Bluegrass Banjo" book. Then I got lots of help from other banjo players at festivals. I play a Stelling Whitestar banjo and I use a Snuffy Smith 11/16" bridge. I also tighten the head on my banjo more than most. I love my banjo!

  • I wish I had read my post before I posted it. I meant to say who showed you right hand position. The way you wear your thumbpick almost to the knuckle instead of on the thumbnail. And the angle of the wrist gives you great attack on the strings. That Stelling sound wonderful. I'm from Southeast MO. I live in FL now. I went to school in Cape Girardeau and spent a lot of time in Carbondale. I was asking about the bridge. I just put a Kateyz 11/16 on my Gibson RB-3 re-issue.

  • this is a great version and well taught. I like the way you broken it down into bite-size pieces. Any more tunes?

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it! I put tunes up as I have time. I think there are several other banjo tunes I put on YouTube, but most are simpler than this one. Keep watching, I'm sure I'll post more. Thanks!

  • thats fantastic. You make it look easy...grin....I'll be happy to be able to play a few licks from that song.....and I"ll bookmark it so I can come back and practice all those different licks....thanks for breaking it down so well...
