  • Great video btw ;)

  • @4thcoming Thank you for the complement.

  • never let our divine heritage be forgotten or disrespected.....HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM NEW ENGLAND TO ALL WHO BELIEVE IN GOD AND COUNTRY

  • John Winthrop would agree.

  • how true since i was born and raised in the town of winthrop named after the GREAT GOVERNER...in back of my house is the original home of his son.....my love for history and country makes me very proud to walk the same areas that they did.....our schools in this country need to bring back our history as it has been taught less and less over time....thanks

  • Nice coincidence. I just read JW's journals, and a history of the Suagus Iron Works which was JW Jr.s project.

  • Outstanding. Thanks for your time in preserving our history.

  • Thank you. You're welcome.

  • Beautiful Proclamations by George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with their families!

  • Make sure that they are read when the family is together, or, if you're not up to it, play this video. 8)

  • Some good comments but I'm so sick and tired on the subject of black slavery... What about the Italians? 1 in 2 was a slave and in the millions of people. What about the Asians? This country has evolved and learned over time just like any other country in its infancy. Humans make mistakes. Sometimes terrible mistakes. It was commonplace for the day. Should German citizens be condemed for the actions of their leader? What's important is that we learn from those mistakes and move on...

  • The subject is two proclamations from controversial presidents. Others want to change the subject to pet peeves. We still have systems of empire out there, so its still an issue since Africa is a target of colonialism still today in a way.

  • saw your cell phone video. My daughter was hit by a girl that ran a red on her cell... about your reply. It's hard for me since I entered your conversation and are not getting the full context of what is being discussed. I'm curious about your viewpoint on the obama and father wright saga? Is the pastor a bigot? Is Obama wrong for being associated with that guy?

  • Is it wrong to associate with organized crime figures like Rezko and Auchi, and lie about your relationship with them? Obama is politicaly dead meat for attempting to lie about his relationships with them.

  • First of all, it may not have been in the heat of the moment. Secondly it could very well have been written ahead of time. Third when in a heated debate people will say what they really mean, not what they don't believe in. And he did not just blurt out something, they were coherent thoughts.

Your in an extremely weak position when you have to say in effect, oh he didn't mean it. I have a lot more quotes like that, so your going to end up looking very stupid.

  • Why am I in a weak position? You are taking the side of the slaveocracy, thats worse anything Lincoln "said", since he's on the record as being against the institution of slavery and the destructive results from slavery.

  • "If I could save the Union without freeing any slave I would do it, and if I could save it be freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some an leaving others alone I would do that. What I do about slavery, and the colored race, I do because I believe it helps to save the Union, and what I forbear, I forbear because I do not believe it would help to save the Union." Abraham Lincoln to Horace Greeley, 22 August 1862.

  • "Lincoln maintains there that the Declaration of Independence asserts that the negro is equal to the white man.." "I say that this Government was established on the white basis. It was made by white men, for the benefit of white men and their posterity forever, and should never should be administered by any except white men." Stephen Douglas Sep 18 '58

  • Lincoln said the Declaration of Independence asserted white and black men were equal, which is true, but he didn't believe it himself.

"I am not, nor ever have been, in favour of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races,"

"There is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality."

  • For a man to be willing to risk his life to bring about institutions that bring equality, that says something more than just words that cynical people use to say that "they're ALL corrupt". Do you prefer Stephen Douglas over Lincoln?

  • But as has been shown in other comments I made here, his aim was not to free the slaves, in fact if he could have saved the union without freeing the slaves he would, because he was racist. Also it's a known fact that he was against any black coming into any territory or state that was not a slave state.

You know there is no law against changing your mind about something. In fact you can't learn anything if you never change your mind.

  • That was a trick question, it wasn't either or. The nation was going to be either all slavery or all free. In that case, his Union Cooper speech is correct.

  • Read "The Real Lincoln" by Thomas de Lorenzo. Lincoln was a dictator and a racist, and the freeing of the slaves was not the reason for the war, as he himself stated.

  • Mr. Lorenzo is a congentital liar and paid hack, nothing more. I saw his lecture on the book that was put up on another YT channel and it was disgusting at his shameless attempts at rewriting history. I'm thinking of a funny Paul Dunbar poem in response.

  • As usual from people of your ilk, you don't have anything of substance to say, you just smear people.

Lincoln was a racist, he was the leader of as group that wanted all blacks deported to Africa. He went out of his way as a lawyer, to enforce the fugitive slave laws. He made numerous statements that showed he was a racist.

You cannot deny these things. They are part of the historical record.

  • Why didn't you repeat ALL the slanders like 'Lincoln owned slaves' while you're at it. The only ilk here are Zinn, de Lorenzo and other character assassins. Your mistake is believing their shit. Perhaps you would have prefered the US being re-colonized and everyone enslaved.

  • Once again your avoiding the issues and just slandering people. Do you disagree with what I said about Lincoln? If you know anything about Lincoln you know that what I said is true.

  • Is it OK to slander a slanderer? Yes, I disagree with your take because what you are saying is not true. Frederick Douglas didn't think he was a racist. I assume that you prefered Stephen Douglas to Lincoln, talk about a racist!

  • Some quotes from Lincoln THAT ARE PART OF THE HISTORICAL RECORD.

"I am not, nor ever have been, in favour of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races,"

"There is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality."

  • You have to include the entire speech he gave to get the context he's saying it in. Again, Douglas was much more racist, why don't you complain about him?

  • He said this during a debate with Stephen Douglas in Ottawa, Illinois on Aug. 21, 1858.

Only a complete idiot would say you need to put such completely racist comments in context. There was no special context, he was a racist.

  • What are you upset about, he lost that race because he wasn't racist enough. If you were an Illinois voter in 1858 would you have voted for Douglas or Lincoln?

  • Ok then explain the context it was said in and how this changes the obvious racism in these statements. You make statements and then can't even back them up.

  • Taking a few words spoken during a lengthy heated debate (back when they had real debates) without looking at the sum of his entire life is reductionism to the extreme and very foolish. How many 3 hour debates on extremely difficult and polarizing subjects have you engaged in recently? This is a subject over which extreme violence was occuring. Remember Sen. Sumner getting almost beaten to death? JQAdam's years long battle in the House?

  • Thank you for those readings. I truly appreciate our forefathers thoughts. Mary

  • Too bad the current administration is diametricaly opposed to their outlook. Thanks for commenting.

  • I almost added something to that effect to my previous comment, thank you for being a comprehensive citizen. Mary
