This video annoys me as a Christian and as a rational person. It makes blind assertions about things without considering context. Not to mention obscene levels of hyperbole and prejudice on a level that is not only sickening but it's also frankly depressing. I could also point out that the red states, the alleged bastions of godliness have a much larger level of out divorce, teen pregnancy, etc. than do the blue states. Just saying.
When Ron Paul pointed out that we made a mistake in invading Iraq. Huckabee responded to him by stating that "we are one nation under god". First of all, he is quoting the pledge of allegience, not scripture. Second, the invasion of Iraq is based on a complete lie. It was the Taliban that attacked the United States not Iraq. There is no connection between Iraq and the Taliban.
Neither Al'Quda or the Taliban were in Iraq when Saddam Hussein was a dictator of that country. The Taliban represents a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam that Hussein despised. Osama bin Laden used to refer to Hussein as an atheist, which is an insult. The Taliban were mainly concentrated in Pakistan and Afghanistan, during Hussein's reign. There was no "link" between Hussein and the attacks that occured on September 11, 2001.
Yes, but Hussein murdered many people including his own family. So by getting him out of power we've helped to free a nation of the bondage of a tyrant ruler. Like when we were under the rule of King Henry (can't reamber which one, atm.) With doing that we've helped to spread the idea of democracy in that area.
Right, because Huckabee went to a Christian high school, a baptist college, a baptist seminary, a and was a christian pastor, OBVIOUSLY he doesn't believe in God.
You want to know what's sick is that Americans generally don't give a CRAP about what they have become! If you don't look at the numbers and figure out where you sit please just shut up and don't VOTE!
OK I HAVE TO STEP IN!!! I'm generally a quiet person around here. SHUT UP AND LET THE MAN SPEAK! How often do we get a politician that ACTUALLY practices what he preaches?? This guy ACTUALLY preaches! So stop slinging mud and start looking at numbers. Take 50 years ago and today and look at where we were and how far we've fallen!
I know...shit this scares me. They think all of america's problems are beause people arent christian enough. The vast majority of the US is christian. Oh and by the way guys, this song sucks.
Goodness! It sounds to me from all of your comments that the enlightened, and secular amough us want to silence Mr. Huckabee? Could this be true amoung such tolerant respectful orators such as the comments below reflect. I thought free speech was free for all not just those that agree with you masters of intelligent civil debate. Oh by the way you cant stop me from praying for all of you purveyors of hateful discoarse, which I am doing right now. May JESUS richly bless you and yours!!

Ah, the old 'we're persecuted!' crap. The religious right acts like bullies, then starts crying and saying they started it when someone calls them on their BS.
You can't be tolerant towards the intolerant. And thats why you get what you get. Although lots of religious rightards seem to consider radical christian dogma tolerant somehow, even many other christians (those that are NOT fucked up.) don't agree, let alone non-christians.
I am a born again Christian. My Jesus tells me that you will hate me because I stand for him. Well I am here to say that I do stand on the promise My Lord and Savior. So go on and hate me for the namesake of My Lord and Savior. I don't hate you. It shows because I am not calling you names nor am I insulting you or showing my ignorance by using foul language. My Jesus died for the sin in your life just as he did for mine, Carman (Man who is singing this song) and Mr. Huckabee.

Mr. Jefferson, build up that wall! No to the nutbag exclusionary fanatical fundamentalistic misogynistic hucksterish anti-rational unconstitutional patriarchical fascist American Taliban.
Gods hates, haters. And this Huckabee abomination obviously hates agreat deal. Have you seen the filth that is his family and what they have done. They are in the lowest levels of humanity. This Huckabee is a liar to his country and his God. Shoot the bastard!
Thank God for Mike Huckabee! He will bring God back into government, our schools, our places of employment, and bedrooms where he belongs. Im sure that he will help the Godless see the light in reeducation camps throughout the southwest and Guantanamo Bay. Where the misguided can be shown the error of their ways. Where the holy water of the baptismal board can be used to show them the true light and love of Jesus Christ!
Tear down the wall separating church & state, the first amendment. We must silence all who do not agree with Christ. We must merge government and religion at all costs. At least the Taliban got something right.
Um. No. So wrong. Jesus operated in Love, not oppression. Even God gave us free will to make our own choices. Americans and Christians alike need to learn to respect each other and differing people's culture, but without forsaking our own Biblical/Christian heritage.
replace "God" with "Allah" and this sounds a lot like a Huckabee jihad.
I don't need a president to legislate my morality. I need a president who will fix the economy, stop the war, do something about healthcare costs, improve education, create jobs, and improve the image of the US to the rest of the world. FIRST. After that, if there's still time to worry about whether some church just married two women, THEN I might care. Prioritize!
Seek God first and everything else follows. If we do not seek Jesus, the things you want for America will never improve nor end or end with acceptable results.
and 1 more thing...huckabees son hung a dog upside down and slit its throat and beat it for what...fun? something is fucked up in the huckabee family...but oh! oh! he preaches chrisianity ! nevermind the REAL issues we need to worry about! wheres my bible?!?!?! say no more, im voting for huckabee...you zombies make me sick.
George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, and John Jay are all true American patriots that did their best to keep religion out of the government. Anyone that uses the names of those great men to push their religion into government should be ashamed of themselves. That's not American. America is about freedom and enlightenment. Things Mr. Huckabee and his backwards religion don't know about.
Are you talking about a fix like the Taliban had in Afghanistan or the Ayatollahs have in Iran. No, this country does not need a theocracy. We have had the lie of Clinton, followed by the innumberable lies of Bush.
And you want a person, supposedly an honest person, but one who starts by misrepresenting our history for his own political agenda? Surely, you can find someone better.
This song by Carmen wonderfully depicts our founding fathers. It's exciting to know that we have a candidate like Mike Huckabee running for President. I can hardly wait to see Mr. Huckabee fix America. God bless America, and God bless Mike Huckabee. Dan Campbell. Sgt USMC.
Please I urge to to investigate more into Mr. Romney.I believe you will find as I have he is not what he claims to be.Either way all the best to you and happy holidays.
Continuing the history lesson, the early Presidensts did not believe in the virgin birth, the trinity, the raising of the dead, or the resurrection. They refused to participate in communion, regarding it as barbaric. Jefferson openly ridiculed organized religion on the one hand, and edited the Bible himself on the other. Others such as Ethan Allen and Thomas Paine were also adamantly opposed to organized religion. All would be considered deists by todays standards, not Christians.
Exactly. But what really matters is the fact the US government is supposed to be totally secular. It doesn't matter whether the founding fathers were deists or fire worshipers or Christians. What matters is separation of church and state.
you are just historically wrong. most folks cant wrap their brains around the nuance of the diff. betw. freedom from religion and freedom of religion. the founding fathers recog. god as the bestower of inalienable rights. they mandated, however, that the state should not promote any one methodology.
There were orthodox Christians in early America (e.g., Patrick Henry, John Jay), but our early Presidents were not among them. Washington, Madison, and Monroe considered themselves to be Episcopalian, Adam was Unitarian, and Jefferson belonged to no organized church. They each believed in God and they believed Jesus was a good moral teacher, but they certainly were not "born again." None believed that Jesus was the Savior or Messiah.
Are people really believing this fraud?Or are the polls really that fixed?I mean it takes very little effort to expose huckabee for what he really is.Are people really that lazy to just believe what the media tells them to?
to bar730: Sadly, most Americans will just take what is spoonfed to them. the liberal media keeps hyping Huckabee's "surge" because they want him to win the GOP nomination as he'd be the easiest GOP contender to beat! Think about it. Check out: mittromney(dot)com...tough all the way around -- my former govenor in MASS.
aprillh:I too am from mass.,and sadly I did vote for Romney only for the lesser of 2 evils rational.A mistake I won't be making this time around, which is why I'm voting for Ron Paul.
Although I'm sure this is just a stealth ad for Romney, I doubt there is some conspiracy in the media to get Huckabee nominated so he can be thoroughly beaten in the election. I think he's popular because he panders to the Evangelical Christians in the Religious Right of the Republican party.
What we do not need is another President who would rewrite history for his own political reasons. I refer you to the book The Faiths of the Founding Fathers by David L. Holmes, an Episcopalian and professor of religion at the College of William and Mary. Also, look at the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. How many times do you find the words "Christianity", "Jesus", or "Christ"? None. How about "Savior" or "Messiah"? None. How about "God"? None.
Yeah, and he also wants the criminals to all be let out so they can murder again. He allowed Wayne Dumond out and he raped and murdered a young mother. He released this scum against the advice of many parole board members. This man should NEVER be president! Romney did not pardon ANYBODY! Romney is the true conservative GOP candidate. Huckabee is a LIBERAL in RINO clothing! As a cons. Christian, Huckabee DISGUSTS ME!
Hate to break it to ya, but Romney ain't no conservative. When he was governor of Massachusetts, he signed the bill into law allowing gay marriage.
(I'm not a Republican, I'm actually in favor of gay marriage, but I just thought I'd point that out. Do your homework before you start mouthing off, or worse yet, voting.)
To conslerb: I hate to break it to you: I lived in MA and no he didn't. The Mass. Supreme Court took it upon themselves to legislate from the bench, something the liberals are known for doing. He fought it and lost. Get your facts straight. Of course you're for gay marriage -- it shows. Stop spreading lies about Romney!
Legislate from the bench...something that liberals are known for doing HA! look at Bush V. Gore thats legislating from the bench conservative judges deciding they want to change Florida election law so their guy can win and not having it be a precident afterwords come on the Right has as many if not more judical activists than the left.
To conslerb: I vote in every election. And I do my homework vs. spreading lies because I don't agree with a candidate. You liberals always seem to do that because you never have truth or logic behind your pithy "arguments." I will be voting for Romney and true conservative Republicans -- not this hayseed Huckabee.
Is Huckabee stupid? The founding fathers were not Baptists or Christians for that matter! Ugh..how repugnant-- they were actually Deist and held views that were a far cry from "pastor" Huckabee's views. Is he trying to rip off Ron Paul? How unoriginal! So I guess us Atheists are not american huh? Why not just call it the United Christian States of America already? Thanks for ignoring nearly 20 million of us.
Yes George Washington was a Christian but he wanted a secular country. Religion in government and religious wars had decimated Europe and he wanted to avoid that. You have to understand that for 200 years prior to the founding of the American Republic protestants and Catholics were murdering each other and both were murding Jews and "heretics" (pagans, natural healers, decenters, free thinkers etc.)
The fact of the Matter is the government of United States is not founded on the Christian Religion it is founded as An enlightenment Republic that draws its power not from God but from its people with respect for the rule of laws made by people and a reverance for the right of its citizens to freely choose their own religion, professions, leaders and associates. Thats what America was founded on...freedom for its citizens not divine authoritarianism.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." 1st of all george wash. didnt write this. 2nd it doesnt say''the country should be secular" it means gov. should not endorse or advocate one religion over another. its freedom of religion not freedom from religion.
That and the overall lack of any religious language in the Constitution, Washingtons involvent in the Free Masons, His letter to the touro Synagogue and his letter to the United Baptists Churches of Virginia in 1789 in which he says every man "ought to be protected in worshiping deity according to the dictates of his own conscience." He obviously did not want the Federal Governement "to put God (Christian" everywhere.
of course gov. shouldnt "put christianity everywhere". can you name ANYONE who advocates using gov. to force religion on anyone? this is just the politics of fear. "you should be afraid that any one w/ religion in office will try to make you believe in their religion" that is nonsense. only muslims believe that.
"Can you name ANYONE who advocates using gov. to force religion on anyone?"
"The military should rethink their position. That's not a religion." G.W. Bush, governor of Texas, referring to the Wiccan Religion." 2001 KS, a County commissioner closes an alternative religious camp on trumped up charges of illegal activities for which officials produced no evidence. 1986 Jesse Helms introduces amendment 705 to HR 3036 to remove tax exempt status for "organizations that promote Witchcraft."
you have failed to demonstrate "forcing religion on anyone". refusing tax-exempt status on any org. can hardly be called forcing your religion on someone. try again. blessed be.
So excluding people from the military for their religion, closing their places of worship, and placing additional tax burdens on religious establishment (tax burdens are what Muslims use, the Jizyah) isn't forcing religion on them. I DON'T want freedom from religion. I agree inalienable rights are derived from Deity. All I am saying is the Government shouldn't mandate religious principals like telling churches which marriages they will recognize, who can serve in the military etc.
noone is excluded from the military for religion, no gov closes place of worship, there is no ADDITIONAL tax burden.btw- there is a definition of marriage. as a man who likes women, i have similarities to lesbians, but i dont fit the def. of a lesbian. i cant change the def. of lesbian to include me.
"marriage was 1st a religious istitution later recognized by gov. it has ALWAYS been about a man & woman." You really don't want to get into historical permutations of marriage with me. In much of the world for most of history, marriage was between a man, a women, another women, another woman and their parents in the form of arranged marraiges and polygamy. These ideas were left behind in favor of personal choice which is the question at hand in terms of same sex marriage.
there is no such thing as a male lesbian. there is no such thing as same sex marriage.you have to change the definition of the word. semantics do matter. words have meaning. a civil union gives gays the same rights but it does not conform to the definition of the word marriage. i can say i am a tree(im similar to a tree in some ways) but i am NOT a tree.
These are just a few examples of things that have been tried to make one religious minority, paganism, change their religion that is why I worry. I wish you were right and I pray that one day you will be right but it is this boldfaced discrimination, by top leaders in some cases, that makes me worry.
huckabee has said countless times that he respects everyones right to follow or not follow any religion. he said he respects an honest atheist more than a christian that doesnt act like one. he was governor for 10 yrs and is ABSOLUTELY opposed to gov. interference w/ personal religion.
George Washington did not write the 1st amendment but in his inaugural address he suggested that the congress should support a bill of rights. Secondly when I say "a secular country" I mean a country with no state endorsed religion or non-religion. I'm a deeply religious but don't want a State Church. That is why I don't like it when people say they want America is a Christian Nation (its not) or that they "want to put God (Christian) back in America," code for we want a Christian Nation.
Huckabee has supported things that establish a particular religious view such as a ban on Gay Marriage. There are several religious groups such as FGC Quakers, Reform Judism, among others that bless Gay Marriage. This is clearly the establishment of one religious view marriage is largely a religious institution. The same can be said on numerous issues from contraception to the teaching or the Judeo-Chirstian creationism in science classes.
weak argument. marriage was 1st a religious istitution later recognized by gov. it has ALWAYS been about a man & woman. it is not a gay right to change def. of relig. instit. of course civil unions should be allowed which give the same benefits as marriage. huckabee supports this.
So FCG Quakers and Reform Jews should not be allowed to marry same sex people and have the government recognize this? Wouldn't that be the Government favoring one religious view on marriage others?
Huckabee did not release a murderer, the muderor was released simply under his watch. It was the Democrat appointed staff working under Huckabee that had him released.
1033 I've heard. Romney pardoned ZERO while gov. of Mass., a very ultra liberal state. I voted for him as my governor while living in Mass. and he eliminated the huge deficit the liberals left him. He opposed any benefits for ILLEGALS. Any true conservative will NOT vote for Huckabee!!! He's all for life, but apparently not for Carol Sue Shields who was murdered by Dumond...
Thank you, so please vote for him in the primary and spread the word. I'm amazed that Romney is not getting the respect he deserves. His record speaks for itself! Have you heard the latest? Huck's son, David, 17 at the time, tortured a dog to death at all places, as a BOY SCOUT counselor and was never prosecuted as Gov. Huck swept it under the rug...
Not so. Huckabee met personally with the parole board in 1996 AFTER they denied him parole. Several members of the board have come forth and said the Governor made it clear he wanted the guy released. Huckabee wrote a PERSONAL letter to the guy in prison stating "It is my intent that you go free."
Exactly, and now the truth is coming out and hopefully the truth will set Mikey free! Free from the GOP nomination! This guy has gotten far past the oooint he should have anyway. He's a LIBERAL!!! Look at his voting record. He should be a Democrat! Romney is the true Reagan conservative running..check the facts for yourself. And please Pauliacs, don't spam this message -- it's so predictable. They know Romney's a threat to Paul as Romney's gainint again in the polls.
We've got a person in the white house right now who claims that he makes his decisions on what God tells him to do. How's that working out for you?
This country was founded on principles which have been trashed by people who proclaim God and Christianity as their guide. Are they good Christians? Jesus had plenty to say about people who go out in public and talk about their religion. He wasn't keen on it.
Mike Huckabee is a charlatan. Religion + politics = Iran.
Christianity is NOT a religion!it is a lifestyle. You can bear the name Christian all you want, but if there is no basis,if there is no personal relationship w/Jesus Christ, you have nothing,&you are very confused&you are headed for Hell.
70% of American people CLAIM to be Christians, but how many of those self-proclaimed Christians go around using the Lord's name in vain?!how many of those self-proclaimed Christians swear&treat other people like crap?!& how many of those self-proclaimed Christians are having sex, supporting abortion(murder)& are saying that homosexual marriage is ok?!
You are so right. There are a lot of sinners who go to church on a regular basis... So why aren't more committed Christians supporting Mitt Romney?!? He's lived the Christian lifestyle. People need to get over him being a Mormon. It's not like he's a satanist or a Scientologist! ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT! check out his site: mittromney(dot)com He's very smart and well spoken and MEANS WHAT HE SAYS.
Christians arent supporting Romney because he is not a Christian. he is a member of a very dangerous cult. check out some of the mormonism videos on here and you will see. mormonism is not Christianity.
Again, this country was founded on FREEDOM OF RELIGION. If he wants to worship ROCKS, TREES, etc. that's HIS business! I'm voting for a COMMANDER IN CHIEF not a PASTOR IN CHIEF! And besides, Romney has more morals and integrity than the lying phony hypocrite "minister" Huckster. Mormonism is NOT a cult. Scientology is.
Romney has the right to worship whatever he wants. you asked why arent Christians supporting him. i answered. you went off in another direction. and yes mormonism is a cult.
Huckabee has more moral character than Romney. Romney has flip flopped more than John Kerry. Huck has stayed true to his convictions regardless of what people say. thats the kind of Commander in Chief i want.
Freedom of Religion is just one of our rights, but it is not how and on what this country was founded. The real truth behind our history and heritage is hidden by the people in high places that do not want Americans to know the real values and creation of this great country. School textbooks even taint the truth, render only half or very little. Americans have become push overs and people pleasers. We've become lazy. I would encourage you to do some thorough research. Dig past the surface.
This is a scary picture, in my opinion. Have people forgotten all of the horrible things these same founding fathers did to anyone who wasn't a White Christian? Besides, Franklin one of the writers of the COnstitution was NOT a Christian. He was an Agnostic.
An unjust war you say? Freeing a country from tyranny is hardly unjust. Evil men have been removed from power. Democracy and freedom are blowing in the wind. Still, evil men resist that which is right. These are the ones who kill women and children. People like you live in a make-believe world. War is Hell...it always has been and always will be until the end of time.
(2) But war is necessary--as long as tyrants oppress the innocent, there will always be men who will rise up and champion the cause of liberty and justice...and there will be people like you who would rather do nothing in the name of somed misguided and naive morality.
There's no ONE RIGHT WAY to run a country. Yes, Saddam Hussein was a man who did some horrible things to his people, but who put him there in the first place? It was our bad judgement that led to the state Iraq got into in the first place and now we have made it worse by executing our ideas of logocentrism. By the way, God IS in America! We are still 70% Christian, aren't we?
There is a right way to run a country. Dont use nerve gas killing thousands of your own citizens. Dont murder several hundreds of thousands of your people. If your president dont let your sons terrorize women using rape rooms. Saddam usurped power without the help of the US.
(2) He was a ruthless tyrant that deserved to be removed from power. You defend a murdering physcopath from the comfort and security America provides but I bet you would sing a different tune if you'd actually suffered under this tyrants reign.
You weren't paying any attention to a word I said. I said Saddam was a bad man. How dare you accuse me of defending him! The US government put him there to begin with, so they were trying to clean up their mess. I have no quarrel with that, but Bush didn't say that was our reason for going there and now we've opened the door to a Civil War. It's no longer our fight then. Would OUR Civil War have ended if the British had occupied us during that time?
I want someone who is a true christian. Mike Huckabee is that man. I'm tired of letting a small group of secular humanists dictate the direction of this country. I'm tired of political correctness run amuck. It's time we take back our country from those who seek its moral and spiritual destruction.
Praise God for Mike Huckabee! I see he's moved up to 17% in Florida according to the latest polls...an increase of 11 points. Pray christians, pray! We need a truly godly man in the WhiteHouse!
I'm sorry, from where I am sitting, many of the Founding Father's did not whole-heartedly support Christianity and may have only put up with it to appease the clergy who held power over the constituency. The bottom line is, I don't want my wages stolen by the government and used to promote ANY religion. I am not opposed to religion just when it mixes with government.
"appease the clergy"?...No my friend, that is why they left Europe-to express their freedom of religion. NOT to invite amorality and false religion. In your mind, what is our guiding principle or standard of truth in the world today? People either believe in truth or they abandon the notion of truth...yet everyone lives their lives based on what they "think" is right. Where does this notion come from?
Read Thomas Jefferson's version of the New Testament- sans the superstitious and "miraculous". Read the Treat of Tripoli, approved by Congress unanimously in 1796, near the end of George Washington's 2nd term:
"the government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian Religion..."
rel3, you must look to the context and time of the treaty of tripoli in comparison with the founding date and all that went on in between. Also you must look at the reason for the treaty of tripoli and who it was aimed at. Do some research before spreading what reflects your lack of knowledge on the subject.
I understand the context well. Our vessels were being raided by pirates from predominantly Muslim nations and we wished them to stop. That doesn't change the explicit wording or ramifications of the document. The treaty was read aloud on the Senate floor, it was published fully in two newspapers in Philly, and in one newspaper in New York. Although it was the 339th vote in the Senate, it was only the 3rd unanimous vite. There is no record of any discussion or negative political repercussions.
Further, I understand that religionists will read scripture literally when they see fit or "in context" when they want to change the meaning- and will apply the same technique to other documents. Unfortunately, that does not change the facts of history.
I encourage people to read George Washington's letter to the Touro Synagogue in which he says "all possess liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship." People like Huckabee, and those that made this video, scare me because they do not like other people having "liberty of conscience." It is clear they want America to be the Christian Iran
This video gave me chills. It is what I believe and it is my hearts cry. Without acknowledging God our country is on the skids. We must turn back to our founding fathers idea of America. Without Jesus we have lost our purpose of being!
Aallelujah Amen!! Invade Iraq, kill abortion doctors, and screw the gays!! Guns for all!! Let's blow away Satan ourselves. Let's make this country a true Christian theocracy.
It is a secular progressive MYTH that our Founding Father's wanted God disassociated within our government. Even the Library of Congress has DOCUMENTED this FACT. Read about it here: snipurl(dot)com/1uawg
The problem is, it's not a concept codified in any official US document. And more over, it was not the intent of the Founding Fathers. Did you even read the LOC url I left in my comment?
The problem I have, is that Christians want their religion over all others yet, Jesus is never mentioned once in the Constitution nor Bill of Rights. I find that very odd. Seems to me if they were good Christian men, they would have mentioned his name at least once. Washington himself declared the US to NOT be a Christian nation and many of the founding fathers were Deists. I feel the US is not far from becoming a theocracy and that is unsettling.
And yet, I'm guessing you didn't read ANY of the LOC link I sent. Most of the Founding Father's were NOT deists. IN FACT, Jefferson attended church services in the House of Representatives as did Madison. To quote the LOC site, see below:
"Jefferson's actions may seem surprising because his attitude toward the relation between religion and government is usually thought to have been embodied in his recommendation that there exist "a wall of separation between church and state." In that statement, Jefferson was apparently declaring his opposition, as Madison had done in introducing the Bill of Rights, to a 'national' religion."
Jefferson and the others did not want a "national" church...like the Church of England...as an official church. Thus the Establishment Clause which says, "Congress shall not recognize "an establishment" of religion. Establishment meaning, a particular denomination.
Part FOUR: However, they quite readily recognized God in general and Christianity in specific (just NOT a specific denomination) as being the under pinning of the law and the culture. They did not want a theocracy, but they also did not want to run God out of the government as is being practiced today.
That is your opinion. Please cite me facts and figures to support such a claim. In fact, based on historical practice, I would submit that when the Founding Fathers held church services ON CAPITOL GROUNDS as I have documented, most in the USA would consider THAT time to be more of a theocracy then than now.
Jefferson, "The truth is, that the greatest enemies of the doctrine of Jesus are those, calling themselves the expositors of them, who have perverted them to the structure of a system of fancy absolutely incomprehensible, and without any foundation in his genuine words. And the day will come, when the mystical generation [birth] of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation [birth] of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."
Jefferson, "I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology."
Jefferson had his problems with Christianity, but that doesn't alter the fact that he attended church services ON CAPITOL GROUNDS, and did not see fit to stop such a practice. Nor did any other Founding Father. The plain fact is, our forefathers saw fit to celebrate Christianity within the Captital and on federal property and NO ONE had a problem with it then. ... So why NOW do we???
Can you imagine if someone was holding a religious service and Jefferson didn't show up? He was a politician after all and new how to play "the game". He didn't want to have to deal with those that really held the power -- the clergy. So what if he attended. What Christian would ever say the gospels were "superstition, fanaticism and fabrication"?
You are missing the point. I didn't claim Jefferson was a Christian, I claimed that the Founding Father's (of which Jefferson was only one) whole heartedly endorsed Christianity WITHIN the practice of government. NOT separate from it.
So do you suggest that we worship Thomas Jefferson? Is he the ultimate reality of what our lives should be? Once again, you must realize that the "real power" was in the hands of the people-Christians. Not Thomas Jefferson or any "clergy", by the way you must recognize that the early settlers were overwhelmingly protestant, in effect escaping the persecution of the Man-governed church in Europe. You need to be better informed of Church government.
Worship Thomas Jefferson? You've jumped in here half-cocked my friend. If you believe your "people Christians" held more power than the clergy than I can't really help you. I bet the women murdered by Christian clergy in Salem had wished the "people Christians" had helped them out a bit there.
Parisjune, you are being influenced by an unclean spirit. There is a reason that some things are considered "wrong" by society. Granted there are many ignorant people in society and they are being blinded by the same spirit as you are. The Spirit of God has none of the hatred, anger, revenge, and cleverness that I sense in you. You can't help him? Who needs this kind of help?
First of all, I am a her not a him. I never argued some things weren't considered wrong so I'm not sure where that came from. I have no hatred, no need for revenge, and if I am clever, that must be a gift. I encourage you to pray and live your lives as you see fit. I will protect your right to do so. Do not ask me, however, to fund any religion with my tax dollars.
First off, I never called you a him. I was commenting on your remark to the previous poster. While you claim that your tax dollars after Huckabee would be funding a religion which is not true, now they are funding abortion, ignorance, destruction of the borders, one world government, homosexuality, the attempt to destroy God, and many other fine causes thanks to liberals highjacking grants and other public money.
I said nothing about whether a religion was true or untrue--you are not being honest in your comments. I don't want my tax dollars funding ANY religion. I don't want my tax dollars funding abortion. I don't want my tax dollars funding the education of illegal immigrants. Let me keep my money. I can decide who to give it to.
religion which is there should be a comma..like this religion, which is not true meaning I don't think if Huckabee was in office our tax dollars would fund any religion.
I don't want the liberals "highjacking" public money either. What you don't seem to understand is that if you don't want liberals getting funds for things you disagree with -- the govt. has to stop FUNDING things! You can't have it both ways.
I think we need some funding. We can't just stop everything. We need funding for the good things that our Federal Government can do. Never the less this can go on forever and I don't have forever, so bottom line is Huckabee or start the whole government over again from scratch. Huckabee is easier.
We don't need to start the government from scratch. Just follow the Constitution. Huckabee isn't easier, it's a cop-out. And, no, we don't need the Feds in everything. Charities and families used to help those in need. Now we let the Feds steal our money and decide who is "worthy". I want you to keep your money and give to organizations you believe in. Huckabee taxes and spends. He is no conservative.

There is no connection between Iraq and the Taliban.
zxygh 3 years ago
First of all the people that attacked the US on 911 was Al'Quda.
Secondly there's Al'Quda and Taliban all over the middle east, not just in Iraq.
Thirdly the war was justified.
Finally God Bless the USA
bas23456 2 years ago
Neither Al'Quda or the Taliban were in Iraq when Saddam Hussein was a dictator of that country. The Taliban represents a fundamentalist interpretation of Islam that Hussein despised. Osama bin Laden used to refer to Hussein as an atheist, which is an insult. The Taliban were mainly concentrated in Pakistan and Afghanistan, during Hussein's reign. There was no "link" between Hussein and the attacks that occured on September 11, 2001.
zxygh 2 years ago
Yes, but Hussein murdered many people including his own family. So by getting him out of power we've helped to free a nation of the bondage of a tyrant ruler. Like when we were under the rule of King Henry (can't reamber which one, atm.) With doing that we've helped to spread the idea of democracy in that area.
bas23456 2 years ago
Hussein murdered many people? lol what dictator hasnt? is that all?
or perhaps because hussein was planning to start selling oil in euros
which could endanger the dollar as the world reserve...

You can't be tolerant towards the intolerant. And thats why you get what you get. Although lots of religious rightards seem to consider radical christian dogma tolerant somehow, even many other christians (those that are NOT fucked up.) don't agree, let alone non-christians.

All would be considered deists by todays standards, not Christians.
nowoolinmyeyes 4 years ago
Exactly. But what really matters is the fact the US government is supposed to be totally secular. It doesn't matter whether the founding fathers were deists or fire worshipers or Christians. What matters is separation of church and state.
feedbackdude 4 years ago
you are just historically wrong. most folks cant wrap their brains around the nuance of the diff. betw. freedom from religion and freedom of religion. the founding fathers recog. god as the bestower of inalienable rights. they mandated, however, that the state should not promote any one methodology.
catfrenzy 4 years ago 2
There were orthodox Christians in early America (e.g., Patrick Henry, John Jay), but our early Presidents were not among them. Washington, Madison, and Monroe considered themselves to be Episcopalian, Adam was Unitarian, and Jefferson belonged to no organized church. They each believed in God and they believed Jesus was a good moral teacher, but they certainly were not "born again." None believed that Jesus was the Savior or Messiah.

feedbackdude 4 years ago
What we do not need is another President who would rewrite history for his own political reasons. I refer you to the book The Faiths of the Founding Fathers by David L. Holmes, an Episcopalian and professor of religion at the College of William and Mary. Also, look at the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. How many times do you find the words "Christianity", "Jesus", or "Christ"? None. How about "Savior" or "Messiah"? None. How about "God"? None.

ChristopherMillz 4 years ago
Correction, most were deist, some were Quakers.
thedigitalnomad 4 years ago
The Founding Fathers were Christians, who believed and read the Bible, and accepted Jesus Christ as their personal savior. (Yes, a few were Deists.)
George Washington took the oath of office with his hand on an open Bible, ending with the statement, "I swear, so help me God."
This is readily evident in the fact that they commonly referred to God, including in our most revered document, the Declaration of Independence.
ChristopherMillz 4 years ago
Yes George Washington was a Christian but he wanted a secular country. Religion in government and religious wars had decimated Europe and he wanted to avoid that. You have to understand that for 200 years prior to the founding of the American Republic protestants and Catholics were murdering each other and both were murding Jews and "heretics" (pagans, natural healers, decenters, free thinkers etc.)
jbartow1 4 years ago
The fact of the Matter is the government of United States is not founded on the Christian Religion it is founded as An enlightenment Republic that draws its power not from God but from its people with respect for the rule of laws made by people and a reverance for the right of its citizens to freely choose their own religion, professions, leaders and associates. Thats what America was founded on...freedom for its citizens not divine authoritarianism.

That and the overall lack of any religious language in the Constitution, Washingtons involvent in the Free Masons, His letter to the touro Synagogue and his letter to the United Baptists Churches of Virginia in 1789 in which he says every man "ought to be protected in worshiping deity according to the dictates of his own conscience." He obviously did not want the Federal Governement "to put God (Christian" everywhere.
jbartow1 4 years ago
of course gov. shouldnt "put christianity everywhere". can you name ANYONE who advocates using gov. to force religion on anyone? this is just the politics of fear. "you should be afraid that any one w/ religion in office will try to make you believe in their religion" that is nonsense. only muslims believe that.
catfrenzy 4 years ago
"Can you name ANYONE who advocates using gov. to force religion on anyone?"
"The military should rethink their position. That's not a religion." G.W. Bush, governor of Texas, referring to the Wiccan Religion." 2001 KS, a County commissioner closes an alternative religious camp on trumped up charges of illegal activities for which officials produced no evidence. 1986 Jesse Helms introduces amendment 705 to HR 3036 to remove tax exempt status for "organizations that promote Witchcraft."
jbartow1 4 years ago
you have failed to demonstrate "forcing religion on anyone". refusing tax-exempt status on any org. can hardly be called forcing your religion on someone. try again. blessed be.
catfrenzy 4 years ago
So excluding people from the military for their religion, closing their places of worship, and placing additional tax burdens on religious establishment (tax burdens are what Muslims use, the Jizyah) isn't forcing religion on them. I DON'T want freedom from religion. I agree inalienable rights are derived from Deity. All I am saying is the Government shouldn't mandate religious principals like telling churches which marriages they will recognize, who can serve in the military etc.
jbartow1 4 years ago
noone is excluded from the military for religion, no gov closes place of worship, there is no ADDITIONAL tax burden.btw- there is a definition of marriage. as a man who likes women, i have similarities to lesbians, but i dont fit the def. of a lesbian. i cant change the def. of lesbian to include me.
catfrenzy 4 years ago
"marriage was 1st a religious istitution later recognized by gov. it has ALWAYS been about a man & woman." You really don't want to get into historical permutations of marriage with me. In much of the world for most of history, marriage was between a man, a women, another women, another woman and their parents in the form of arranged marraiges and polygamy. These ideas were left behind in favor of personal choice which is the question at hand in terms of same sex marriage.
jbartow1 4 years ago
there is no such thing as a male lesbian. there is no such thing as same sex marriage.you have to change the definition of the word. semantics do matter. words have meaning. a civil union gives gays the same rights but it does not conform to the definition of the word marriage. i can say i am a tree(im similar to a tree in some ways) but i am NOT a tree.
catfrenzy 4 years ago
These are just a few examples of things that have been tried to make one religious minority, paganism, change their religion that is why I worry. I wish you were right and I pray that one day you will be right but it is this boldfaced discrimination, by top leaders in some cases, that makes me worry.
jbartow1 4 years ago
huckabee has said countless times that he respects everyones right to follow or not follow any religion. he said he respects an honest atheist more than a christian that doesnt act like one. he was governor for 10 yrs and is ABSOLUTELY opposed to gov. interference w/ personal religion.
catfrenzy 4 years ago
George Washington did not write the 1st amendment but in his inaugural address he suggested that the congress should support a bill of rights. Secondly when I say "a secular country" I mean a country with no state endorsed religion or non-religion. I'm a deeply religious but don't want a State Church. That is why I don't like it when people say they want America is a Christian Nation (its not) or that they "want to put God (Christian) back in America," code for we want a Christian Nation.
jbartow1 4 years ago
Huckabee has supported things that establish a particular religious view such as a ban on Gay Marriage. There are several religious groups such as FGC Quakers, Reform Judism, among others that bless Gay Marriage. This is clearly the establishment of one religious view marriage is largely a religious institution. The same can be said on numerous issues from contraception to the teaching or the Judeo-Chirstian creationism in science classes.
jbartow1 4 years ago
weak argument. marriage was 1st a religious istitution later recognized by gov. it has ALWAYS been about a man & woman. it is not a gay right to change def. of relig. instit. of course civil unions should be allowed which give the same benefits as marriage. huckabee supports this.
catfrenzy 4 years ago
So FCG Quakers and Reform Jews should not be allowed to marry same sex people and have the government recognize this? Wouldn't that be the Government favoring one religious view on marriage others?

Freedom of Religion is just one of our rights, but it is not how and on what this country was founded. The real truth behind our history and heritage is hidden by the people in high places that do not want Americans to know the real values and creation of this great country. School textbooks even taint the truth, render only half or very little. Americans have become push overs and people pleasers. We've become lazy. I would encourage you to do some thorough research. An unjust war you say? Freeing a country from tyranny is hardly unjust. Evil men have been removed from power. Democracy and freedom are blowing in the wind. Still, evil men resist that which is right. These are the ones who kill women and children. People like you live in a make-believe world. War is Hell...it always has been and always will be until the end of time.
jfranklins 4 years ago
(2) But war is necessary--as long as tyrants oppress the innocent, there will always be men who will rise up and champion the cause of liberty and justice...and there will be people like you who would rather do nothing in the name of somed misguided and naive morality.

There's no ONE RIGHT WAY to run a country. Yes, Saddam Hussein was a man who did some horrible things to his people, but who put him there in the first place? It was our bad judgement that led to the state Iraq got into in the first place and now we have made it worse by executing our ideas of logocentrism. By the way, God IS in America! We are still 70% Christian, aren't we?
smoothALOE 4 years ago
There is a right way to run a country. Dont use nerve gas killing thousands of your own citizens. Dont murder several hundreds of thousands of your people. If your president dont let your sons terrorize women using rape rooms. Saddam usurped power without the help of the US.
jfranklins 4 years ago
(2) He was a ruthless tyrant that deserved to be removed from power. You defend a murdering physcopath from the comfort and security America provides but I bet you would sing a different tune if you'd actually suffered under this tyrants reign.
jfranklins 4 years ago

It's time we take back our country from those who seek its moral and spiritual destruction.
jfranklins 4 years ago
Praise God for Mike Huckabee! I see he's moved up to 17% in Florida according to the latest polls...an increase of 11 points. Pray christians, pray! We need a truly godly man in the WhiteHouse!

I'm sorry, from where I am sitting, many of the Founding Father's did not whole-heartedly support Christianity and may have only put up with it to appease the clergy who held power over the constituency. The bottom line is, I don't want my wages stolen by the government and used to promote ANY religion. I am not opposed to religion just when it mixes with government.
Parisjune 4 years ago
"appease the clergy"?...No my friend, that is why they left Europe-to express their freedom of religion. NOT to invite amorality and false religion. In your mind, what is our guiding principle or standard of truth in the world today? People either believe in truth or they abandon the notion of truth...yet everyone lives their lives based on what they "think" is right. Where does this notion come from?
ThisIDig 4 years ago
"from where im sitting"- you are sitting in the dark. read the federalist papers and stop taking other ppl word for it.

Read Thomas Jefferson's version of the New Testament- sans the superstitious and "miraculous". Read the Treat of Tripoli, approved by Congress unanimously in 1796, near the end of George Washington's 2nd term:
"the government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian Religion..."
rel3vant 4 years ago
rel3, you must look to the context and time of the treaty of tripoli in comparison with the founding date and all that went on in between. Also you must look at the reason for the treaty of tripoli and who it was aimed at. Do some research before spreading what reflects your lack of knowledge on the subject.
smerny85 4 years ago
I understand the context well. Our vessels were being raided by pirates from predominantly Muslim nations and we wished them to stop. That doesn't change the explicit wording or ramifications of the document. The treaty was read aloud on the Senate floor, it was published fully in two newspapers in Philly, and in one newspaper in New York. Although it was the 339th vote in the Senate, it was only the 3rd unanimous vite. There is no record of any discussion or negative political repercussions.
rel3vant 4 years ago
Further, I understand that religionists will read scripture literally when they see fit or "in context" when they want to change the meaning- and will apply the same technique to other documents. Unfortunately, that does not change the facts of history.

I encourage people to read George Washington's letter to the Touro Synagogue in which he says "all possess liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship." People like Huckabee, and those that made this video, scare me because they do not like other people having "liberty of conscience." It is clear they want America to be the Christian Iran
jbartow1 4 years ago 5

Separation of church and state sounds pretty simple to me. I like it that way. Makes for a more civil society.
Parisjune 4 years ago
The problem is, it's not a concept codified in any official US document. And more over, it was not the intent of the Founding Fathers. Did you even read the LOC url I left in my comment?
mactographer 4 years ago
The problem I have, is that Christians want their religion over all others yet, Jesus is never mentioned once in the Constitution nor Bill of Rights. I find that very odd. Seems to me if they were good Christian men, they would have mentioned his name at least once. Washington himself declared the US to NOT be a Christian nation and many of the founding fathers were Deists. I feel the US is not far from becoming a theocracy and that is unsettling.
Parisjune 4 years ago
Part ONE:
And yet, I'm guessing you didn't read ANY of the LOC link I sent. Most of the Founding Father's were NOT deists. IN FACT, Jefferson attended church services in the House of Representatives as did Madison. To quote the LOC site, see below:
mactographer 4 years ago
Part TWO:
"Jefferson's actions may seem surprising because his attitude toward the relation between religion and government is usually thought to have been embodied in his recommendation that there exist "a wall of separation between church and state." In that statement, Jefferson was apparently declaring his opposition, as Madison had done in introducing the Bill of Rights, to a 'national' religion."
mactographer 4 years ago
Part THREE:
Jefferson and the others did not want a "national" church...like the Church of England...as an official church. Thus the Establishment Clause which says, "Congress shall not recognize "an establishment" of religion. Establishment meaning, a particular denomination.
mactographer 4 years ago
Part FOUR: However, they quite readily recognized God in general and Christianity in specific (just NOT a specific denomination) as being the under pinning of the law and the culture. They did not want a theocracy, but they also did not want to run God out of the government as is being practiced today.
mactographer 4 years ago
They might not have wanted a theocracy but most fundamentalist Christians do.
Parisjune 4 years ago
That is your opinion. Please cite me facts and figures to support such a claim. In fact, based on historical practice, I would submit that when the Founding Fathers held church services ON CAPITOL GROUNDS as I have documented, most in the USA would consider THAT time to be more of a theocracy then than now.
mactographer 4 years ago
Jefferson, "The truth is, that the greatest enemies of the doctrine of Jesus are those, calling themselves the expositors of them, who have perverted them to the structure of a system of fancy absolutely incomprehensible, and without any foundation in his genuine words. And the day will come, when the mystical generation [birth] of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as his father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation [birth] of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter."
Parisjune 4 years ago
Jefferson, "I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition (Christianity) one redeeming feature. They are all alike founded on fables and mythology."
Parisjune 4 years ago
Jefferson, "We discover in the gospels a groundwork of vulgar ignorance, of things impossible, of superstition, fanaticism and fabrication."
Parisjune 4 years ago 2
Jefferson had his problems with Christianity, but that doesn't alter the fact that he attended church services ON CAPITOL GROUNDS, and did not see fit to stop such a practice. Nor did any other Founding Father. The plain fact is, our forefathers saw fit to celebrate Christianity within the Captital and on federal property and NO ONE had a problem with it then. ... So why NOW do we???
mactographer 4 years ago
Can you imagine if someone was holding a religious service and Jefferson didn't show up? He was a politician after all and new how to play "the game". He didn't want to have to deal with those that really held the power -- the clergy. So what if he attended. What Christian would ever say the gospels were "superstition, fanaticism and fabrication"?
Parisjune 4 years ago 3
You are missing the point. I didn't claim Jefferson was a Christian, I claimed that the Founding Father's (of which Jefferson was only one) whole heartedly endorsed Christianity WITHIN the practice of government. NOT separate from it.
mactographer 4 years ago 2
So do you suggest that we worship Thomas Jefferson? Is he the ultimate reality of what our lives should be? Once again, you must realize that the "real power" was in the hands of the people-Christians. Not Thomas Jefferson or any "clergy", by the way you must recognize that the early settlers were overwhelmingly protestant, in effect escaping the persecution of the Man-governed church in Europe. You need to be better informed of Church government.
ThisIDig 4 years ago
Worship Thomas Jefferson? You've jumped in here half-cocked my friend. If you believe your "people Christians" held more power than the clergy than I can't really help you. I bet the women murdered by Christian clergy in Salem had wished the "people Christians" had helped them out a bit there.
Parisjune 4 years ago
Parisjune, you are being influenced by an unclean spirit. There is a reason that some things are considered "wrong" by society. Granted there are many ignorant people in society and they are being blinded by the same spirit as you are. The Spirit of God has none of the hatred, anger, revenge, and cleverness that I sense in you. You can't help him? Who needs this kind of help?
djfisher3 4 years ago
First of all, I am a her not a him. I never argued some things weren't considered wrong so I'm not sure where that came from. I have no hatred, no need for revenge, and if I am clever, that must be a gift. I encourage you to pray and live your lives as you see fit. I will protect your right to do so. Do not ask me, however, to fund any religion with my tax dollars.
Parisjune 4 years ago 2
First off, I never called you a him. I was commenting on your remark to the previous poster. While you claim that your tax dollars after Huckabee would be funding a religion which is not true, now they are funding abortion, ignorance, destruction of the borders, one world government, homosexuality, the attempt to destroy God, and many other fine causes thanks to liberals highjacking grants and other public money.
djfisher3 4 years ago
I said nothing about whether a religion was true or untrue--you are not being honest in your comments. I don't want my tax dollars funding ANY religion. I don't want my tax dollars funding abortion. I don't want my tax dollars funding the education of illegal immigrants. Let me keep my money. I can decide who to give it to.
Parisjune 4 years ago
religion which is there should be a comma..like this religion, which is not true meaning I don't think if Huckabee was in office our tax dollars would fund any religion.
djfisher3 4 years ago
I don't want the liberals "highjacking" public money either. What you don't seem to understand is that if you don't want liberals getting funds for things you disagree with -- the govt. has to stop FUNDING things! You can't have it both ways.
Parisjune 4 years ago
I think we need some funding. We can't just stop everything. We need funding for the good things that our Federal Government can do. Never the less this can go on forever and I don't have forever, so bottom line is Huckabee or start the whole government over again from scratch. Huckabee is easier.
djfisher3 4 years ago
We don't need to start the government from scratch. Just follow the Constitution. Huckabee isn't easier, it's a cop-out. And, no, we don't need the Feds in everything. Charities and families used to help those in need. Now we let the Feds steal our money and decide who is "worthy". I want you to keep your money and give to organizations you believe in. Huckabee taxes and spends. He is no conservative.
