@jparso3 Some content is available, but most is currently still in the vault. In the Disney Treasures series, Disney has released the first week of the Mickey Mouse Club, and some episodes can also be found on the following sets: Spin and Marty, The Hardy Boys, Annette, and Your Host Walt Disney. Disney also released a single Highlights DVD that had a few heavily edited episodes of the show.
Thanks so much for posting. I was desperately in love with Darlene. I mean, I had the biggest crush in the whole wide world. Annette was nice, but she just didn't do it for me. Nope, it was Darlene. Possibly an early symptom of a developing "leg man," and I'm a sucker for freckles and buck teeth to this day. She out of the slam now? I'd like to write her.
Why is it tht the old Disney isnt talked about much in life?? Personally i dnt mind it but im just wondering. I asked my mom nd aunt bout the old Disney nd they NEVER even heard of it back wen they were young. Tht's pathetic.
When Darlene grew up, she went to jail at least once. It was a sad destination for someone with so much promise. Hopefully her life is straightened out by now.
I read a book about the Mouseketeers one time Darlene was so jealous of Annette that she was cursing and carrying on terrible in front of her young daughter.
Sadly ironic that her last lines of the song are that she'll "make her mom and daddy proud of me." That's because, in real life, she did in fact commit crimes as a washed-up adult.
I can't deny that Annette was (Uncle) Walt Disney's favorite. Darlene has always been my favorite mouseketeer. She had engaging stage presence, charm, and a beautiful voice. Something obviously went wrong in her adult life. It really is sad!!
I know nothing about these original mousketeers, but having seen many stage mothers in this day and age, and knowing how much more was tolerated back then...Darlene was probably stacked up by her parents and then let to fall with no emotional safety net. It's quite sad really.
Gosh. Instead, she grew up to be a petty criminal who never got over the fact that Disney paid more attention to Annette. She does have a lovely voice, though.
Well, I wouldn't be able to get over it, either... to be 14, 15 years old, be promised all this stuff by Disney--they were going to star her in two different movies, star her in her own serial (Darlene, changed to Darlene and Annette, and finally to just ANNETTE), then to be totally snubbed by Disney after the series ended.
Her problem as an adult was that she fell in love with a con artist, and he talked her into all these embezzlement schemes. Sadly, I think she's still with him.
Does anyone have the segment "An Evening With Darlene?" I think that's the title. I've never seen it but I've read that in the segment Darlene gives an hysterical imitation of Ed Sullivan!
I've been looking for that one, too. Actually, I think there was more than one "Evening With Darlene" segment, because the one I remember was her singing a ballad before she went to bed. It opens with her singing "One Song" softly to herself while sorting through her records. Then her mother calls up that it's bedtime, and she sings a song and says a little prayer before she goes to bed.
I missed the good old MMC, but I like it back in the day, but I found it and it was that song came from the LP "Fun With Music" where I'm responding it here.

Darlene did serve time in jail - but her crooked hubby died a few years ago. With the evil influence gone, her life should be OK from this point on.

So comical that Britney Spears & Christina Aguilera are considered great kid singing talents. They can't hold a candle to Darlene.

As I understand it, Darlene and her husband were convicted of check-fraud; she has served jail-time.

Thanks! Anyone know which year "Fun with Music" was recorded? Darlene sounds much older on the LP than the video.

Some of the former Mousketeers and at least one author conceded that Darlene was the most gifted of all the Mouseketeers.
musikview 4 years ago
Wow, she had the best voice--by a country mile--of all the early Mouseketeers. What a pity she got led into a life of crime. What a talent she had!
