  • I wish I could get this on iTunes. :(

  • @MissSpock709 After a five year pause this band is coming back this year - 20th anniversary DVD is coming out and they will tour both Europe and USA!

Go to their YouTube channel "GjallarhornOFFICIAL", there are links to their web-page etc - I guess it won't hurt to leave your request directly there.

BTW they have made some vids available, among others a very good quality version of this one.

  • Ahh Gjallarhorn blows my mind!!!

Would anyone be willing to give me the lyrics and/or a translation as well???

Finnish is actually one of my ultimate favourite languages in the world ahh

  • "Játszott Vejnemöinen ujja, Harsogott a hárfa húrja..."

  • Finnish is a very nice language, but hard to understand..!

  • They have digerdoo's in Finland?

  • Two of their members studied music in Australia.

  • The thing that sounds like the digerdoo is a bass recorder. It's a big honking thing! I saw them last fall. Gjallarhon kicks ass.

  • No, it actually IS a didg on this track/album (Sjofn), but I think the guy who played it has left, and the new guy plays recorders. Their latest album, Rimfaxe, features recorders but no didg.

  • Your right on the didg, but the person who plays it is a woman.

  • @TSardaukar I'm kind of late with this - but didgeridoo/slideridoo player here was Tommy Mansikka-Aho, definitely male.

  • @EneriGiilaan: Cool, thanks for the information. Gjallarhorn really is a great group. I saw them play a couple of years ago and there didg player was female. Do you know if they changed members or if it was a temporary thing?

  • @TSardaukar If you have seen them, you surely are better informed than me, as I have never seen them live (stupid me).

According to Wikipedia Tommy was their 'doo player in 1996-2004, and they have not had one since. After that they have had a 'subcontrabass recorder' played (among other instruments) by Göran Månsson.

So according to this information (and I don't have better), it indeed seems that the concert has been some special arrangement.

  • @EneriGiilaan Are there men known to you who make familiar music?

Not nordic heavy metal.. imagine this song with a mans voice - what bands would come up your mind?

  • @Nhordmyr Hedningarna

  • Wonderful!

While I doubt the band would self-identify as druids, their use of musical techniques from Norse poetry makes this song, if not video, an excellent selection for general listening and meditation.

    Kitsaplorax, Druid

  • Norse poetry?

To me this sounds very Carelian indeed.

  • This video as posted on the Link TV website identifies many of their stylistic techniques as Norse. If that's incorrect, I apologize.

  • OK, the music could be Norse. I thought you referred to the lyrics as well. They represent the traditional Kalevala/Kanteletar style with alliteration and octosyllabic Kalevala meter.

But the insruments, there the Norse influence is very possible indeed. I am afraid I am not familiar with that aspect. Some sounds even seem to be a bit more exotic than just Scandinavian/Fenno-Ugric.

  • Not only seem. For bass/bottom instrument, they used a didgeridoo ...!

  • Amazing, I love Finnish culture and mythology :D

  • you're nto alone...I should have been born in Suomen as well...but at least, I will try to get there

  • I think I should have born in Finland or Sweden.

  • Magical. i like the build up so much, it holds its edge[tension] so well. A great and deft mix of instruments and the vocal is so deeply dreamy. Makes me want to dive into a field of wheat and praise the earth goddess.

  • Do you mean Gaia?

  • Could be Gaia, or whatever gladdens your being friend!

  • No not Gaia. It's Suvetar another fertility and earth goddess.

  • perfect!

  • SPELLBINDING! 5*'s!

  • I love everything about this vid: the song, the imagery. Very cool. I didn't know Finnish music was this funky (I actually don't know anything at all about Finnish music.) Great vid. Also, did I see/hear a (pardon spelling) dijideroo?

  • 2nd that!

  • Yes, you heard a didgeridoo :)

  • Breathtaking! My favorite Finnish group!

  • memorizing...folkish, but with a beat that you can hum ..luv it

  • I agree!

  • Horribly out of sync, though.

  • Breathless!!!

  • Mysterious and fantastic video with the image of the woman as bond of the ancient elements.

You can see my video seeking for: nemofolk

  • amazing!! i love this piece!! drums, didjeridoo & stunning vocals + "supernatural" video make so WONDERFUL a tmosphere!! (and that guy with didjeridoo.. :-)

  • Excellent!

  • WOW this is so beautiful!!

  • great band. more vidz plz

  • wOw! great video! i love nordic music (althou i'm portuguese)

  • i'm gonna hank up you to the bed so you better not scream for mommy
