Does getting shot give you a pass to be a moron and promote legislation that risks lives? I'm sorry, I'm not going to be polite because of his experience. He somehow thinks the idea of being allowed to defend yourself as an evil thing. Nothing he's promoted makes anyone safer, would have stopped Cho, would have saved his friends.
@ravidesparte - "something like a gun which is dangerous to the freedom of others." It is for that exact reason, (besides recreation and hunting) that individuals should continue to have the uninfringed right to keep and bear arms. Cho was dangerous to the freedom of others, was he not? He did not follow the laws that prohibited him from 1) carrying into a college building, 2) using deadly force with intent to kill. So again, how do GUN FREE ZONES stop these types of incidents?
The laws are already on the books, enforce the laws.....AND WHEN THE LAWS ARE BROKEN ...............Punish.................................And to be fair 30 to 40 thousand people die in car crashes every year in America, and when your dead your dead does not really matter how you got that way.............................If the US government ever tries to do away with the second amendment, they will be Sturing up a Hornets Nest... That looks like the Apocalypse........................
Again, guns not really the problem here. Goddard had this much right. Had the shooter been adjudicated through mental health and the court system, then he would have not been able to purchase the guns. But as I have to tell scared people everyday, who are afraid of problem neighbors, exhusbands, etc. until he does something, I can't arrest him.
Also, Gun Free Zones, like schools, are shooting ranges. The only ones with the guns are the shooters. No way for us to defend ourselves.
Colin is just a front man for the Brady Campaign. He now thinks all guns should be banned. His efforts must be resisted at every turn. Just think if Colin had a gun that day he could have saved lives.
@Maxwedge12000 Idiot. He said people with mental health issues shouldn't be allowed own guns. I agree. Rightwing wackos like you condone what that guy did that day. Anyone can be driven insane if pushed enough.
@skierdude95 Moron. You obviously know about the Brady Campaign and their long term agenda. No, you gun grabbers cannot have our guns. Get used to it.
@Maxwedge12000 Did you hear about what happened in 1992? A friendly Japanese exchange student named Yoshi Hattori was with his friend for a halloween party. They went to the wrong house and the owner thought they were trespassing. He shot Yoshi and killed him. That is one of the things that started the Brady campaign. If you hate the Brady bill blame that guy for being a paranoid lunatic. And I don't want you guns. I just wish mentally ill people weren't allowed to have them.
If Colin Goddard really wanted to "live for 32" he'd get his head out of his hind end and start asking serious questions regarding why Tech ignored the problem of a very mentally disturbed individual, who had been reported as such a number of times by various faculty. Instead, its easier to blame firearms ownership.
In a separate incident, a student recently got really crocked at a party, fell off a railing on a 3rd floor balcony and died... VT admin likes to ignore "messy" issues.
I'm soo tired of people blaming ownership of firearms for the problems caused by the deterioration of value systems and personal responsibility in America. Look at some of the videos documenting what took place during the LA riots or during Hurricane Katrina... I suppose the problem there was the store owners leaving their businesses unattended... and the possibility of police brutality in LA made it right for disgruntled individuals to pull people out of vehicles and beat them senseless.
@TheMaltais What kind of moronic logic is that? Over 37,000 people died in automobile accidents in 2008... thats over three times the number you're quoting which may or may not be accurate. Should we all hurry out and protest vehicle ownership too?
I suppose if Cho had bought a 5 gallon can of gasoline, poured it on the ground floor of the building and set the building ablaze, then everyone should get a permit prior to purchase of gasoline?
@Pollockserve - How many hours on an average on a given day does a person use a car and how many hours on an average on any given day does a person use a gun? The primary purpose of car and gasoline are different. For that matter, if i wanted to harm somebody i could use any object i want, even my own hands. That does not mean that all our hands should be amputated does it? Tell me one good use of a gun apart from shooting people or animals.
@grj512 Life is not black and white. There are various shades of gray including some nice ones! Asking for regulation in one area does not mean asking for liberating a nation. I am for capitalism and freedom of choice and appreciate all that these have made possible. But why use something as wonderful as individual freedom to justify something like a gun which is dangerous to the freedom of others and serves no other purpose?
@ravidesparate - "something like a gun which is dangerous to the freedom of others." It is for that exact reason, (besides recreation and hunting) that individuals should continue to have the uninfringed right to keep and bear arms. Cho was dangerous to the freedom of others, was he not? He did not follow the laws that prohibited him from 1) carrying into a college building, 2) using deadly force with intent to kill. So again, how do GUN FREE ZONES stop these types of incidents?
Wrong! This was a failure in one area. It was the failure of Virginia Tech to address a very disturbed student who had shown a lot of warning signs. If he had poured gasoline in the hallway and ignited it, what then? Would petroleum products be the next target on your radar?
@Pollockserve it was also a a failure because of the shit gun policy in america. because of the gun policy in america almost any citizen can go to a gun store and buy a gun with out a permit which is horrible. if you check the number america has over 11 thousand person killed by a gun every year and one of the next highest is in the 4 hundreds. so obviously it isent only the school fault it's the fault of the US goverment AND the school fault.
do you really think by ignoring the fact that it is an object that sits there. and you "shutter" over a 14-year old learning to respect and understand that it has a use. it is an instrument as a car, hammer, or a chair. it is a noun, an object. through out life we as humans learn; with your parents teaching you that it is a cold metal sharp piercing, hand of the criminal. your partial view of it without first learning safety, responsibility, and the ultimate under standing that life could be....
@whycanturead If a gun is a tool - what exactly is this tool for? If it's to protect our loved ones - then we need to invent a better tool. One that a) doesnt contribute to the problem b) is more effective - and c) which is more humane.
If defense were the real argument here - we'd have invented something safer (to all parties) and more effective years ago. Which leads many to suspect the motives of those who so vehemently defend this stance...
: @mylongsword RIGHT NOW YOU JUST EXERCISED YOUR FIRST AMENDMENT. TO ERODE THE BILL OF RIGHTS. WHAT THEN WILL GIVE YOU THE RIGHT THEN TO BELIEVE IN GOD AS YOU CHOSE. THE CONSTITUTION IS THERE SO PEOPLE LIKE YOU CANT ARBITRARILY AT WHIM TAKE AWAY RIGHTS FROM FREE PEOPLE. and as for "you hillbilly piece of shit" you make your self sound stupid by your own words. maybe if there was education of how to properly use and respect "tools" maybe people might see there are other ways dealing w/things.
hes not asking that guns be banned, just that people people should take backgrounds checks first. the shooter wouldn't have been able to buy the gun if the dealer had known he was mentally ill.
@mylongsword 32 people wouldn't have died that day if there had been stricter gun laws you hillbilly piece of shit. in many states in this country people can just walk into a store, buy an assault rifle, and just walk out. in florida, armor piercing bullets are legal. i hope you get killed in a shooting you redneck piece of garbage.
@skierdude95 Maybe you need to go back and read the Constitution again because it says that we have the right to bear arms which means we can walk around town with them. If you unAmerican scumbags wouldn't have taken that right away from us we would have taken him out before he even took 1 step onto the campus and saved lives. More people die in car accidents every year we should ban cars. If it wasn't for guns that 14 year old girl on the news last week would have been raped and murdered
@mylongsword The thing about countries and the laws that manage them is that they should sensibly evolve and mature. Obsolete law is repealed all over the world as the problem each addressed is found irrelevant by changes in attitude and situation. Constitutions are no different. Belligerently retaining a right or law formed for a different time, place, society and level of education seems a strange thing to do.
@mylongsword Shooting someone before they've taken a step on campus? How would you know (pre-murder) - that murder was their intent? The law can not be taken into the general publics hands. Thats in the C as well isn't it? Yes - there will always be individual examples where guns may have protected the innocent. But a change like this has to be taken on the benefits over the long-term. It's a change that requires a leader of great courage I suspect. Stand up Mr President.
@skierdude95 if criminals get guns illegally then we should be able to but legelly its our 2nd amendment and shit we got the right to protect or selfs not the gun law problems why someone shoots a school its the person so if you dont like having guns move some where that you cant obtain one.
@Slapnuts6931 Last week a 14 yearold girl was almost raped and murdered. She ran into her parents bedroom and grabbed a gun to defend herself. It saved her life. Kill the criminals and there will be less of them.
@mylongsword Do you realize that you just endorsed 14-year old Americans using handguns? Stop for a moment and think about the implications. You can find a circumstantial anecdote to illustrate any position, but in this case, the debate is about national legislation and policy.
*thinks of 14-year old niece with a 9mm and shudders*
