@Fourteen88SoCal 10 ft long is not that big really, u think about a snake that grows 10 ft long omg that thing has to eat humans or something like that... well, there has been no recorded case of a boa eating a human, once again i would like to refer to the thought of a 10 ft snake... once u actually hold the snake in your hands or around your body in this case, 10 ft long isent that big, so next time plz go handle 1 before u wight bad comments about them, if u love boas "thumbs me up!" pce out!
@Fourteen88SoCal But in the reptile community a 10 ft snake is medium sized... now a Reticulated Python, Anaconda and Burmese Python are considered large snakes :)
ummm....... why is this vid called "How to care for exotic pets......" it said nothing about how to care for boas at all; didnt give any info in that aspect. so since its called how to care for them, i have a few questions: what size enclosure they need, how often should i clean their enclosure, how often should i change their water bowl, what temp should their enclosure be, what humidity? those are all the things, including more, you should have mentioned. FAIL!!!!!
@MrIceBrick there enclosure should be long enough for them to be able to just about stretch their entire body out. A baby all the way up through a year can live very conforatbly in a 10 gallon tank. At about a year, assuming they grow normally you can upgrade to a 20gal and increase accordingly as it grows. i clean the enclosure everytime they make a mess of it and give it a complete wash down every month or 2. As long as their water is clean and cool u can pretty much gage that by yourself
@MrIceBrick as for temp. The hot side, heating with with either a heat light or undetank heat pad should be 85-90 degrees and the cool side 75-80 degrees. If you have a smaller snake there is really no need for a heat light just stick with the undertank heat pad. Humidity should be about 50-60% but im not 100% certain i know its aorund there though.

about keeping them in the enclosure at feeding time. well my warnings are for the big boys when even chancing a bite just isnt worth the wickedly painful bite. wanna take ur 3-6 ft boa out and chance it.. well thats on u and youve been warned )
and if the meal large id wait at least 7-10 days. G: NEVER EVER take them out of the enclosure when food is even in the house! i cant stress this enough ppl. even if you dont touch the food and wash your hands, he can detect the smallest trace and mistaken ident is very possible. If your snake is in the 10ft or more range then your liable to be killed in the process.
someone with considerably severe downs syndrome could easily takie care of a boa, a. an enclosure that isnt obvious too small...B: a water wish large enough for him to coil in and relax. C: safe bedding that will not splinter and harm them by getting inbetween scales. D: Aheat rock/pad or lamp "if your house is cooler than about 75F and no warmer than 90. E. kill his food prior to feeding to avoid possible fatal injury or terrible perm scarring. F.dont handle after feeding for at least 3days
i really love it when people say these snakes have an aggressive natutre. the host on one of them garbage exaggerating shock animal attack shows that give so many pets undeserved reputations
how the hell is this guy owner/operator of anything, listen to the queer's voice, you can tell he's 1)full of shit, and 2)abuses his snakes by trying to stuff his brown-eye with them
Funny, I remember watching this video a couple years ago and thinking about how much I REALLY wanted a boa... I never thought it would happen... but here I am with the most beautiful girl in the whole world!! Boas are the most AMAZING snakes out there!! So beautiful and relaxed and great feeders.
i have a question, why doesnt my boa eat rats? i was told to try to get her on rats as soon as i can but she wont eat them dead or alive. she only will eat mice? my other boa loves rats?
@TheFinal88 If you get a Boa as a baby, I would say yes, it is a good snake to start with. It comes with other benefits too, like watching it grow up, learning to read the snakes moods, etc. As far as handling them past six feet goes, I have a female that is around six feet and she is pretty easy to hold. She's a bit timid, but she doesn't mind being over my shoulders and checking out what's going on around the house.
coz it would take the snake a lot of effort to come in front of him, people have been constricted by boa's, not eaten but if you hold a snake above the ground and move around, they will constrict purely to feel more secure so as not to fall. are you actually suggesting that the weedy bloke here is stronger then that boa? the tail end should be over his shoulder and the head end around his waist. get an education and some experience before you tell me to think.
Anyone worth their weight in salt knows where the tail is when the snake is around them. If the snake becomes too much the tail is unwound (w/o too much effort) and that's that. No biggie. However, if you don't know this simple thing about constrictors then you shouldn't have one.
the amount of pressure required to crush a human throat is around the same amount of pressure it takes to crush a coke can...worth thinking about when you put a snake around your neck.
Chill out, guys. Boa constrictors don't eat people. Sure, they technically *could*, but a boa has never constricted a human. People are too big for a boa to eat, and not a recognizable meal. And no, a snake will never ever constrict in defense; when they strangle something, they are vulnerable. If they are in an uncomfortable situation and feel the need to defend themselves, they will bite, not constrict. With burms / retics / afrocks that are 15+ feet, you could be eaten, but never by a boa.
k, if i was being choked by one, if i had a sharp ass hunting knife and cut at it would it freak out and jump off or would it just keep squeezing just saying. nobody know what
@pedro49ish Actually, hes holding it completely correct. Hes allowing it to drape across the back of his neck NEVER letting it come around the front of his neck. Therefore, it can't strangle him.
well your not soposed to put snake all the way around your neck because they can attack in a second and it is really hard almost inpossible to get them off
@18JJPayne lol i said that within the first two weeks of owning a ball python and got a boa after 3 months of having a ball python heh and that was only last week
Anacondas, Rat snakes, Burmese pythons, reticulated python, rock pythons... These are just some of the snakes that get much longer than the common boa or red tailed boa constrictor. Boa constrictors are quite small compared to the "large" pet snakes.
to be fair a snake that is under 10ft would be a good size for a pet snake, some people keep 25ft anacondas and reticulated pythons in the same sive viv that i would keep a 3ft ball python lol

Nice snake , But is it really a good idea to put a constrictor round your neck ?
You may be able to handle it but telling people by example that its ok is really irresponsible.
I have trained my baby not to go round my neck she goes over my shoulder and grabs a leg !!
Please be carefull when you post stuff as an expert !

about keeping them in the enclosure at feeding time. well my warnings are for the big boys when even chancing a bite just isnt worth the wickedly painful bite. wanna take ur 3-6 ft boa out and chance it.. well thats on u and youve been warned )
lmos26 1 year ago
and if the meal large id wait at least 7-10 days. G: NEVER EVER take them out of the enclosure when food is even in the house! i cant stress this enough ppl. even if you dont touch the food and wash your hands, he can detect the smallest trace and mistaken ident is very possible. If your snake is in the 10ft or more range then your liable to be killed in the process.
lmos26 1 year ago
someone with considerably severe downs syndrome could easily takie care of a boa, a. an enclosure that isnt obvious too small...B: a water wish large enough for him to coil in and relax. C: safe bedding that will not splinter and harm them by getting inbetween scales. D: Aheat rock/pad or lamp "if your house is cooler than about 75F and no warmer than 90. E. kill his food prior to feeding to avoid possible fatal injury or terrible perm scarring. F.dont handle after feeding for at least 3days

i really love it when people say these snakes have an aggressive natutre. the host on one of them garbage exaggerating shock animal attack shows that give so many pets undeserved reputations

is this an appropriate 1st snake to own and are they easy to handle when they grow over 6ft?
TheFinal88 1 year ago
@TheFinal88 i dont think its a good first snake start with a ball python corn snake or milk snake. and idk about that second question
darthjay13 1 year ago
@TheFinal88 If you get a Boa as a baby, I would say yes, it is a good snake to start with. It comes with other benefits too, like watching it grow up, learning to read the snakes moods, etc. As far as handling them past six feet goes, I have a female that is around six feet and she is pretty easy to hold. She's a bit timid, but she doesn't mind being over my shoulders and checking out what's going on around the house.

@InspctrClouseau I just put a deposit down for a baby male columbian boa yesterday ;)

good video nothing he said was wrong and how else would you hold a snake of that size its to heavy not to hold around your neck
bigpimpin12340 1 year ago
coz it would take the snake a lot of effort to come in front of him, people have been constricted by boa's, not eaten but if you hold a snake above the ground and move around, they will constrict purely to feel more secure so as not to fall. are you actually suggesting that the weedy bloke here is stronger then that boa? the tail end should be over his shoulder and the head end around his waist. get an education and some experience before you tell me to think.
pedro49ish 1 year ago
Anyone worth their weight in salt knows where the tail is when the snake is around them. If the snake becomes too much the tail is unwound (w/o too much effort) and that's that. No biggie. However, if you don't know this simple thing about constrictors then you shouldn't have one.
serratealldemoncrats 1 year ago
the amount of pressure required to crush a human throat is around the same amount of pressure it takes to crush a coke can...worth thinking about when you put a snake around your neck.

rosy boas live on west coast
johnsonp3 1 year ago
Chill out, guys. Boa constrictors don't eat people. Sure, they technically *could*, but a boa has never constricted a human. People are too big for a boa to eat, and not a recognizable meal. And no, a snake will never ever constrict in defense; when they strangle something, they are vulnerable. If they are in an uncomfortable situation and feel the need to defend themselves, they will bite, not constrict. With burms / retics / afrocks that are 15+ feet, you could be eaten, but never by a boa.

MegaBilly12345678 1 year ago
this guy is so dumb.
1. wrapping around his neck. if it were to squeeze a tiny bit. it could accidentaly make you pass out.
2. Its damn close to his face
3. Females DO get larger than that. My male is larger and females are usually bigger
Cripton805 1 year ago
k, if i was being choked by one, if i had a sharp ass hunting knife and cut at it would it freak out and jump off or would it just keep squeezing just saying. nobody know what
cole3454657 1 year ago
he's not even holding it right, i wouldn't trust anything from him that you couldn't learn from a nature programme
pedro49ish 1 year ago
@pedro49ish Actually, hes holding it completely correct. Hes allowing it to drape across the back of his neck NEVER letting it come around the front of his neck. Therefore, it can't strangle him.
Think before you speak.

Boa constrictors are awesome snakes.
Don't get too large like burms and retics
and not really small like corn and ball snakes.

i breed boas, and i found that funny, how he was unsure how to move the snake.
decent video, but he didnt look like he wanted to have it on his shoulders any longer than he had to...lol
Findmeareptile 2 years ago
well your not soposed to put snake all the way around your neck because they can attack in a second and it is really hard almost inpossible to get them off
BALLERWANNADUNK 1 year ago
@18JJPayne lol i said that within the first two weeks of owning a ball python and got a boa after 3 months of having a ball python heh and that was only last week
ipwnukazu 2 years ago
Generally dont get too large? lol what are you comparing them to dinosaurs?
Ryan1159 2 years ago 3
@Ryan1159 No, he's probably comparing them to other snakes
Reratiug 2 years ago 2
Anacondas, Rat snakes, Burmese pythons, reticulated python, rock pythons... These are just some of the snakes that get much longer than the common boa or red tailed boa constrictor. Boa constrictors are quite small compared to the "large" pet snakes.
StrangeWorld18 2 years ago
to be fair a snake that is under 10ft would be a good size for a pet snake, some people keep 25ft anacondas and reticulated pythons in the same sive viv that i would keep a 3ft ball python lol
