He is an sopranist countertenor. Philippe is just one of those guys whose vocal range is equivalent to that of a contralto, mezzo-soprano, or a soprano, usually through use of falsetto, or as is rarely the case, the normal or modal voice. In a nutshell: It's a voice type.

ohhhhhh... the All Wise and the All Knowing.... forgive me... and forgive God for creating rude people like you.... and what is the use of understanding music if you speak and smell of s***..... ;-)
what is the need of making a young man sing like a woman when 45% of the world's population is female and atleast 10% or more could sing like that and not sound ridiculous... I love men, but will all their masculininity... IF this man has a nautral voice like this, well I accept and praise his talent, but if he's got female harmones and other shit, then I'm ashamed to hear him... what a paradox !!
@zap22it I'm french and I've seen him in concert, his voice is naturally made to sing high note, when you hear him speak, he speaks like a normal guy. It's just normal for him, he doesn't take any drugs or anything. He won so many competition, and i don't understand why people keep saying he's gay or something. I'd rather have him than Justin bieber
@ImperialCollegeSinfo Thanks for having taken the time to reply... I guess tolerance is all about "knowing".... the more you KNOW the more you accept and the less you criticize...I'm ashamed of my criticism a year ago :-( thanks a ton for the explanation!
@zap22it For people that don't understand what they at the beginning This the Classical Music Award in France, in 2009 (?) I think. And he won it. He's incredibly talented, and trust me for playing myself the violin, I can tell you being a professional classical musician in France is one of the hardest job, because the level is so high. I've been told so many times that I was shit and was worth touching a violin. Now I'm in England and people think I'm super good and talented. Cheers
no...that's called a "counter-tenor", believe it or not, that's the actual term. and that's falsetto, imitating the range of sopranos, but with more "power" to the tone
:O my god.

I'm surprised they let that blonde kid with the hair in his eyes keep his hair that long. In most orchestras they wouldn't.

Vaniel19 3 years ago
How come he can sing like THAT?????
OrianaDiazL 4 years ago 9
in barouque times tenors would train them selfes to sing at a high range.
because back then wemon were not aloud to sing. they would do this or have thier
you know what cut of in order to stop puberty
from taking place. to teach ur self to sing higer is called falsetto. we call men who sing in a very high pitch counter-tenors
