this reminds me of this time when i was a wee lad, i was switching from am cymbols to some more pro type's. anyhow i took two 18" crash's and slapped them on the ol' h.h. stand lol! it was quite funny! my dream in joke form has been to reverse a kit! you know use a bass druma as a ride a snare as h.h.'s and h.h.'s as a snare toms for cymbals vise versa etc. lmao.....
@Dugdrum6 Thanks for the input, please post a video of you playing something that is not "complete crap." I would like to have a frame of reference so I can know what exact ally I need to work on.
@gugusfu thanks for the compliment, and yes, that is exact ally what i did... check out my response to the last comment for the info on the the heads and tuning.
I have a jungle kit that I put together and my bass drum permanently is 14". There is a way to create lower tones to give the kit a more full bodied sound. !4" diameter is technically to high for normal tones that we associate with hearing a bass drum, unless the "floor tom" is long. This is what I did to get a good sound out of 10 x 14 bass drum. Hydraulic/ or Double ply heads on both sides, tune the heads as floppy as you can while still getting a tone. that should give a good place to start.
@JazzieIQ I actually had Aquarian Coated Studio-X heads on the tom/bass. I had them both taped up like a pandeiro and had a hole cut in the reso head. It gave me the sound that I was looking for at that time. very punchy and drum n' bass like. It was very hard to play on due to the tension of the head vs the feel of the bass drum pedal.
@spanishsaharaxxx What exactally is the "shit" that you are reffering to? I would appreciate the feedback and perhaps a video response of you playing something that is not "shit," so that I can know exactally what you think is good and entertaining.
@raymundolundo ok first, thanks for the input. but as i stated earlier, that is a hell toe technique, i would know, i use am the one who played it. i know it doesn't look like it., but trust me it is. i know that my free hand technique was sloppy, that doesn't mean you have to be an ass about it. you could say it in a more constructive way. please post a video of you using the techniques so that I may see how well you play them.
are u using the pearl jg16 or the gibraltar r bop conversion set for the bass drum? im planning to convert a 14' tom to a bass drum too.
