What a tough riff, just a straight bar rock n roll beat. Thin Lizzy always reminds me of just a no bullshit, straight to the point and meaningful rock band.
just heard that Amy Winehouse has died and have just listened to Don't Go to Strangers with Weller on the Jools Holland show, the death of a musician always hits me hard and at times like this I always listen to Lizzy, it still hits me as hard as the day Phil died, as someone else has said on this thread a band that defied genres; soulful, melodic with the ability to rock the balls off of any competiton, god rest you Phil, and you Amy, and all you kids in Norway
Im only 16 and I absolutley love this band and all the old rock music. Todays music is shit compare to then! Going to see the tribute band to Thin Lizzy on Saturday! They're awesome. Thumbs up for THIN LIZZY!! Are you ready to rock?? <3
Greatest, most unique, from-the-heart band EVER! Unchained by categories, underrated, underappreciated and underrecognized. Better bass players? - Sure - but none of them ever looked as cool or portrayed the passion of Phil when he was chording up a bass guitar. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, I am truly sorry - it's your loss. The dual leads of Gorham and Robertson are imprinted on my musical soul. My favorite band ever!
I dedicate this song to my good friend Chris. He quit his job with the ahole bosses he had to deal with and like Phil he's going to pack his case and leave this ghost town. Chris, you will always be a friend and it was great to have someone at work who was into Lizzy as much as I was.
@regllihac made a trip to Dublin, (i'm from the US) and my major priority was to see Phil's statue. It nearly made me cry to see the outpouring love Dublin has for their son. It was a moment I won't ever forget.
@skaterocknroll Don't forget Brain Robertson and Scott Gorham, critical to Lizzy's sound! Those two worked some of the most beautiful guitar harmonies in rock. As a musician I have not heard those kinds of guitar harmonies before or since. That I think is where Lizzy does not get enough credit, their guitar harmonies. VERY UNDERRATED band, especially in the United States!
My heart went back to my teenage years, and I walked down Grafton Street to a CD shop and bought 'Live & Dangerous' again. The vinyl version sits with the other Lizzy classics in a box in the garage. No other band for me - I wish Lynott could've lived to write more...
It was great to be in Dublin on holidays with my family in August 2006 - Walking to Grafton Street, I had no idea about the statue, or it being unveiled 2 days later. I saw it being cleaned, before they put a cover on it, then put a box over it.
Followed Lizzy from 73, with friends frequently tracked their concerts and always loved this song. I started a job in the Diplomatic Service in London in 1979, woke up at 5.00am to get ready for the drive from Cheshire and played Southbound over and over. Biggest song of my life. Thanks Lynott.
Played this song when I left for Brazil!
