If you had studied a bit of history you would see that the Catalan nationalism does not have historical base, you belonged to the Wreath of Aragon, the independence ones you are the invaders that want to annex Valencia Valencia and Baleres. Some people think its fine to blow innocent people up because of the actions of a government. Think about the families of the 2 police officers blown to bits before you say violence is the only way and am sure not each and everyone of them is a fascist. I have just come back from Mallorca and noticed the words Mallorca is not Spain sprayed on various buildings so there seems to be local resentment towards the mainland. Violence is NOT the only way, but you don't need a degree in Political Science to know that within every armed political group, ( be they, ETA, ANC, FARC, PIRA etc) there are factions, the moderates and the hard-liners... And power-struggles like the one within ETA in 2006 always occur... Banning of Batisuna not only bars the way for a peaceful solution but totally strengthens the positions of the more extreme, hard-line faction.
NB: State Terrorism is 100 times worse (ask Iraqis & Gazans)

The Spanish State has been opened the dialog in several occasions and ETA always has looked for the armed way, they are not interested in stopping killing because it has turned into a mafia organization that lives of the extortion and the murders. But my point is those very elections you speak about have a very dubious and suspect validity when certain political parties are banned.
The British hated Sinn Fein in Ireland because of the links to the Provisional IRA but recognized bringing them into the Political fold would facilitate a climate of dialogue, democracy and peace with justice. Peace without justice is no peace at all.

I don't support ETA's tactics at all but when you look closely behind these things Governments tend to be bigger terrorists than these underground groups.
Once you start banning Political parties (no matter how hated they are) you leave the hardliners within these groups in a position of strength and offer a degree of vindication.
Police, all police are agents of the State and as such accept the duty to serve, fight and die for it, normal citizens don't.

I know more than your assuming I know. BUT you make a very sound point that polls show (or indicate, lets be fair, they are just polls) over half the people in Euskadi don't want full independence. For that reason alone, however a State claiming to fully democratic BANNING political parties is just absurd and makes those within ETA hell-bent on their armed struggle more powerful and influential than the more moderate faction within ETA.

That opening statement is factually incorrect, well before the modern Spanish state was formed out of the dark days of Fascism, The Basque Country had long been the economic powerhouse of Spain with its heavy industry and sea trade, while other parts of Spain had the economy of a Third World country... look into it and you'll see your mistaken.

para amaital, que hablas de cultura vasca, esa hay que respetarlas como todas, pero teneis como ideologo a un tio que era de BURGOS (arana), el problema es que os cuentan la historia mal ya la reves, cuando en el pasado todos los vizcainos eren hidalgos CASTELLANOS y no pagan impuestos se le podia llevar en las leva, lo que antes era la mili, cojonudo, estudiar vuestra hª decidisteis ser castellanos en el s.XIII,asi que menos historias.
