I'm sure you meant to say astronomy, but the actual field of study for plate tectonics would be geology. I have taken college semesters in both, and while there was no taught material about the moon's gravity and earthquakes, it actually fits the known model pretty well. The moon's gravity can just be a trigger, where the actual actual cause is tension and stress built up over time in the crust.

Berkland is on to something here and to the chinese who practice the lunar calender for thousands of years knows this has something to do with tides during full moon. Its knowledge of other effects might be lost due to its long turbulent history. There is no harm in relooking into this.
