Actually these anti-nuclear protests were very successful in helping to stop the spread of nuclear plants. There have been no new nuclear plants built in the US for over 30 years and hopefully the recently licensed, federally funded new nukes in Georgia, will also be abandoned before they are built.
This has nothing to do with LEFT/RIGHT. The 1% want to divide and conquer by putting people into camps to fight one another so they can continue to deregulate and steal money away from you in the form of higher taxation to bail out big banks and corporations aka corporate welfare. The same people who hate welfare for the poor are willing to accept welfare for the rich? The rich didn't earn it when their big banks became too big to fail. In this case they stole it from the middle class and poor.
I love how people against the OWS movement are hoping for another Reagan....who monstrously expanded the deficit and raised the debt ceiling 18 times. Orwell would be dismayed, but certainly smug about his vision of the future and doublethink......
= Obviously nothing worked if 32 years later we are still having an "Occupy Wall st." =
Obviously, because back then they should have used massive firepower rather than this nonviolence bullshit. If they had used massive firepower back then against Wall Street and politicians, there would be far fewer casualties of financial terrorism and injustice today.
To the politically infantile like fightingirish1922 who are always duped into putting things into the Left/Right Paradigm, I feel sorry for you and those like you. You will be great subjects for the New World Order. Competly clueless as the jackboots of the Ruling Elites crushes your fool necks. What childlike fools you are to think the Elites would allow you to vote if it meant anything.
To the right-wing douchbags who lurk here: your time is up. Times were different in 1979 than they are today. Today, CEO pay is 300 times more than the average worker's, which wasn't the case 30 years ago. If another "Ronald Reagan" gets elected, he will dangle from a rope like Mussolini. So be careful what you wish for.
I love that when they did this on the actual Wall Street, it's a statue of George Washington looking over all the people. It's not the same at Zuccotti /Liberty Plaza Park where there is just the Double Check statue of the dude reading his newspaper.
@TEHTYMEKITTEH1 Another brilliant comment from the opposition. The level of comment coming in from the people opposed to Occupy Wall Street seems uniformly hate-filled, uninformed, derogatory, and inarticulate. It seems the right is constantly filled with this seething anger and resentment. It's sad, but I guess in modern day talk show America, it's what passes for dialogue.
Wow, Marxist/Socialists/Foreign Agent Revolutionaries in the White House tried this "occupation" re-election strategy in 1979 - Lets hope it has the same effect.
I can't believe the hostility and name-calling by certain folks toward the people involved in the OWS movement. It's scary, really, that there is such anger directed at the protesters and occupiers who are fighting against atrocities committed against common Americans. History proves that freedoms and liberties, time and time again, need to be FOUGHT for. When and if the system is changed, I hope these hostile people will many years from now look back on these harmful words with utter shame..
@trishy00 (part 1) the Occupy Wall Street movement swept across the world – as hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets in Europe, South America, and Asia to push back against too much corporate power in government. In Rome – demonstrations turned violent – as police cars and a government building were torched causing over one million dollars in damage.
@trishy00 (part 2) Here in the United States – where protests have remained peaceful for a month – tens of thousands of people filled Times Square in New York City – and tens of thousands more occupied thousands of cities across the country. In at least four different cities – including New York City – Chicago – Denver – and Phoenix – hundreds of demonstrators were arrested for engaging in peaceful civil disobedience.
@trishy00 (part 3) After decades of globalism and the emergence of an international banking system that has made transnational corporations and their CEOs mind-boggling rich but destroyed the social fabric of nations across the world – the backlash is now well underway.
@trishy00 (part 4) This is a time of social, political, and economic revolution and the forward march of history, like water running down a mountainside, can't be stopped. In a few years, this world will be a very different place than it is today. (these 4 parts are all a quote by Thom Hartmann)
@deepseas Nice quote. may we all all recognize these ad hominem attacks on those involved in the movement and realize that they are bred from ignorance and false pride. I'm open to reading legitimate and thoughtful criticisms, but they are hard to find, especially in youtube comments!
@trishy00 : "When and if the system is changed, I hope these hostile people will many years from now look back on these harmful words with utter shame.."
And I hope they're as goddamned broke as almost everyone else is now.
@trishy00 Funny thing is that after the dust clears and all is changed, The OWS people will be called real Americans and heroes. The Douchebags that write this hate crap and oppose change will somehow justify it in their mind and agree that it was a good idea. They also will not see that they opposed it. and they might even take credit for it! Vietnam was shortened this way (see movie Yes Sir!No Sir! on Netfilx). THOSE protesters are called Heroes nowadays.
@connecticutmommmy Yeah!!!! Proud to be Yippie, Connecticut Mommy! You must be on of these loopy drug and booze addicted characters on that new ABC sitcom Suburgatory... a new Stepford Wives for teenagers. Shut Down Indian Point.
I'll bet some of the same useful idiots that were there protesting nuclear power are there today. Rent-a-mob lefties that turn up to any march or sit-in, to make themselves feel morally superior.
@Bagehot99 Or you red hot heads who protest Obama's non-existent push to somehow extricate arms from Americans. Never seem to run out of these ilk. Yeah, let's fight for the billionaires so to keep things just as they are. You are no threat to people in the 21st century. Your kind has been left behind. And that,my friend,is the ultimate travesty! You are invited to join the rest of humanity today. But you must first check with daddy. Get back to us asap,ok.
I just saw the Millionaire Fat Cat Head this weekend in Washington Square Park, NYC, during the #Occupy Wall Street March to Times Square. Someone's been keeping that thing for the past 32 years? Amazing!
