Napoleon sold the US lands populated by Natives hostile to the USA. If he hadn't sold it there was an excellent possibility it would have been gobbled up by some other empire any way.
The Way the US was expanding you would have been better off keeping the money to build your military & taking the lands by force which you had to do anyway.
