What i think he did was take mostly old tricks and made the new age of entertainers think beyond that trick. It has forced a upgrade in those tricks you might say. for me this is not a bad thing.. if magic does not upgrade it becomes dull and old hat, but put a twist in it and it becomes new again.
I actually think we should let the Masked Machician keep his identity a secret, there's something very exciting about never finding out about things like that.
How does exposing a trick ruin it? I don't understand...if a magician can still create the illusion, knowing how it's done doesn't make any difference. If anything, it makes the trick more enjoyable!

This guy is not immune to criticism, everyone on the planet is subject to it. He has arguably broken several copyright laws in making that show and it's still talk about dragging him back to the court room yet again.
My problem is that in a small country like ours that doesn't have 200+ TV-channels over 400 K people see the show every week. This means that I HAVE TO WATCH IT so I know what I can't use in my next show.

@isjet Those books are a completely different matter. Those are instruction books that TEACH tricks to aspiring magicians and those cannot typically be found lying around every bookstore.
In other words you have to search them out in order to find these books and learn the tricks, as opposed to send it all out on the TV when even the laziest bastard can learn a lot of my best kept secrets without even trying.
Also, these books cost money which are sent back to the inventors of the tricks...

@isjet Well in Sweden the show was watched by roughly 250,000 people at one point before my performance and he exposed 2 principles that I use a lot. He reaches far bigger audiences in Scandinavia compared to the states.

The reason for the show, was to prove to the next gereration that even they could become a magician and although it is tricky to pull off it is possible with enough practice and camera angles. Personaly i love the show :)

IMHO, I am not going to stop watching magic shows just because I know the secrets. People are smart enough to know that magic is smoke and mirrors, but what goes into the smoke and mirrors is what people don't know. Also, I think that the Masked Magician is not just one man, but many people.
1. Trying to figure out what they did for yourself and pondering if it can really be real is part of the fun. They magic is in the mystery.
2. He always does bad versions of the tricks like the Great wall of china thing. No one moved a stair set from the sides of the great wall. Plus, Copperfield's stairs and platform were see-through.
Most of the tricks you see magicians do are not too difficult to figure out if you think about it a little bit. It's all mostly trap doors which lead under the stage.

Actually, those tricks are lame and that is actually NOT how most of them are done professionally. Also- if a trick is REALLY good, you'll enjoy the effect FAR MORE than the reveal! Trust me- if you've ever seen a "miracle", it can change your life! Unfortunately, good magic is hard to find...

The purpose of the "magicians code" is not so much to protect their job as to protect _the_pleasure_of_the_spectators_!
In spite of what we all feel (we WANT to know the secret), our pleasure as spectators is to be fooled, to see somthing that's IMPOSSIBLE !
We want to know the secret, but once we do, let's face it : we're disappointed and our pleasure is gone.

@isjet Well in Sweden the show was watched by roughly 250,000 people at one point before my performance and he exposed 2 principles that I use a lot. He reaches far bigger audiences in Scandinavia compared to the states.

@KickAssPsychoChick The Magician's code is quite real and quite revered among professionals. We try as hard as we can to keep exposure to a minimum in order for us to be able to entertain our clients to the fullest.
The masked magician the not the least bit brave while he stands there, undermining his hardworking peers and making a great deal of money doing it too.
We tend to be a lot harder on this guy in particular since he has an internationally aired TV show, not a 20 subbed YT channel.

I sometimes wonder if so many magicians who hate Valentino REALLY do it because he exposed magic tricks that were so damn old they had gray hair on em' or because THEY didn't think to do it first, and become millionaires?
Val said he really did it to make magicians come up with NEW tricks and illusions to entertain their audiences.. And I for one believe him!!

The reason for the show, was to prove to the next gereration that even they could become a magician and although it is tricky to pull off it is possible with enough practice and camera angles. Personaly i love the show :)

I love how fucking biased this "news report" is. They talk about Valentino as if he was a criminal or the grinch who stole magic. Give it a fucking rest. He did what he did not only to try to get young kids to consider this area of the entertainment industry as a possible career path, but he also did it to emphasize the fact that the entertainment of magic shows was more in the magician's showmanship instead of the wonder of how the trick was pulled off.

IMHO, I am not going to stop watching magic shows just because I know the secrets. People are smart enough to know that magic is smoke and mirrors, but what goes into the smoke and mirrors is what people don't know. Also, I think that the Masked Magician is not just one man, but many people.

Reason why I'm not fond of the TV show:
1. Trying to figure out what they did for yourself and pondering if it can really be real is part of the fun. They magic is in the mystery.
2. He always does bad versions of the tricks like the Great wall of china thing. No one moved a stair set from the sides of the great wall. Plus, Copperfield's stairs and platform were see-through.

Most of the tricks you see magicians do are not too difficult to figure out if you think about it a little bit. It's all mostly trap doors which lead under the stage.

Actually, those tricks are lame and that is actually NOT how most of them are done professionally. Also- if a trick is REALLY good, you'll enjoy the effect FAR MORE than the reveal! Trust me- if you've ever seen a "miracle", it can change your life! Unfortunately, good magic is hard to find...
