The reason for *me* not being sold on Herman is because D-Force seems to rely heavily on the studio to make them sound good, and are overly sloppy during live performances. If he plays something within his range (talking about Herman and his solos) that he is fully capable of performing in live shows, then great. But don't force out something you can't play flawlessly on a regular basis. The audience deserves something tangible to studio quality, it's a musicians job to uphold that.

I agree with TheSilverBullet524.... But i'll add, I think he's over rated... and I personally have friends who are better. I even think personally I'm a better electric player. Here's my 2 cents: Herman Li is a guitarist far better than me. Is he the best in the world? Of course not. He makes a lot of mistakes live. Yes, he has good moments too. But the problem is as a professional you cannot make that many mistakes and still have any sort of good reputation. His studio music is astounding, very artistic and, of course, fast. But based on skill I think he records stuff that is outside his skill level.

Apparently not being hammered at every show, using in-ear monitors, and having a singer that can hit the notes allows him to play the songs without tuning down a half-step, and it sounds very good live. He isn't the greatest, but he is an extremely talented guitarist.
He is not superman, but Paul Gilbert, Jason Becker, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani etc. and many more are!!! They can pick fast, Herman, which is much harder than doing a couple hammer/pull-off's and arpeggios <_<

He isnt good for a lot of reasons. of course he plays fast but that doesnt make an amazing musicien. Playing fast in a way does make u a good player because is means u mastered your technique at a slow tempo. Speed follows naturally after vast amounts of practice, people just hate about good players because there threaten by there virtuosity of there instrument. Everyone i personally am not a fan of drangonforce but herman li is good at his instrument. I think people r jus hoping on the hater band wagon.
I guess you can just say that Herman Li is the master of his own CRAFT. For the style he plays with Dragon Force, he is amazing. In other styles, he is definitely not comfortable there, Shredding is just his style. You have to look at the big picture. There are so many musicians out there. So many that there is no point in trying to compare and contrast. It's cool to hate Dragon Force and all the fast shredding they produce, but you can't rag on them for just playing what they know best.

The reason for *me* not being sold on Herman is because D-Force seems to rely heavily on the studio to make them sound good, and are overly sloppy during live performances. If he plays something within his range (talking about Herman and his solos) that he is fully capable of performing in live shows, then great. But don't force out something you can't play flawlessly on a regular basis. The audience deserves something tangible to studio quality, it's a musicians job to uphold that.

Here's my 2 cents: Herman Li is a guitarist far better than me. Is he the best in the world? Of course not. He makes a lot of mistakes live. Yes, he has good moments too. But the problem is as a professional you cannot make that many mistakes and still have any sort of good reputation. His studio music is astounding, very artistic and, of course, fast. But based on skill I think he records stuff that is outside his skill level.

The problem is that shredding these days is just an imitation of what was going on the 80s...I'm not hearing him do anything that I haven't heard Vai, Gilbert or Becker do from like 25 years ago...Seriously, who or what was the last original breakthrough in shred? It used to be amazing back in the day when it was still innovative, but now you've got 5 million kids on youtube all shredding away, 9 year old girls playing Satriani etc...there's nothing special or unique about it anymore

95% of the people I have met who think DragonForce are bad have based their opinions of of the shitty videos people upload to YouTube that look like they are from cell phones.
This is another great video showing a completely unedited view of Sam and Herman playing for Young Guitar Magazine from Japan. They play perfectly, just like the CD.
And of course the CD is going to sound slightly better. Every band in the world cleans up their music for the CD version.

I harbour alot of respect for this guy, he is a awesome person and is very talented at what he does - in my opinion at least.. But i aspire to him not because of his speed (impressive as it is) but because i beleive he is passionate about his music and i enjoy Dragonforce's music . Apparently not being hammered at every show, using in-ear monitors, and having a singer that can hit the notes allows him to play the songs without tuning down a half-step, and it sounds very good live. He isn't the greatest, but he is an extremely talented guitarist.

He isnt good for a lot of reasons. of course he plays fast but that doesnt make an amazing musicien. Music in general must have a meaning and in his case there is none. he is entertaning, but thats pretty much it. i can assure you that he doesnt even know in depth what he actually plays and thats ok, there is a lot of good musicien that doesnt know music in depth. he really is crap in my opinion, but still there atleast one song that i like.

Playing fast in a way does make u a good player because is means u mastered your technique at a slow tempo. Speed follows naturally after vast amounts of practice, people just hate about good players because there threaten by there virtuosity of there instrument. Everyone i personally am not a fan of drangonforce but herman li is good at his instrument. I think people r jus hoping on the hater band wagon.

I guess you can just say that Herman Li is the master of his own CRAFT. For the style he plays with Dragon Force, he is amazing. In other styles, he is definitely not comfortable there, Shredding is just his style. You have to look at the big picture. There are so many musicians out there. So many that there is no point in trying to compare and contrast. It's cool to hate Dragon Force and all the fast shredding they produce, but you can't rag on them for just playing what they know best.
