As soon as his knees hit the mat it was 2, I am from MN and am not an Iowa fan but Sunderland did nothing but block the last minute and shut down with a 7-4 lead and got when he deserved. 2 points in college, no points in high school
it was a takedown for sure, steiner had control, sunderland almost had that front headlock to his back but steiner got his hips over and was in control.. very close to the buzzer...
Refs always prematurely hit Iowa opponents for stalling. Refs always gave Iowa the opportunity to let wreslters go while they had control of the head or arm to re-shoot. Which means it was not an escape that allowed Iowa to just continue to score.
I disagree I think it was a takedown when sunderlands knees hit the mat (like the annoucer says) even though he had the head wrapped up steiner was still clearly in control. It was definately a close call however.

How in hell can anyone argue that wasn't a takedown? This isn't jiu jitsu. Holding a guy's head while he has you on your back counts for nothing.

Oh, and it was damn near a pin, too.

Iowa always got those bullshit stall calls. They are wrestling positions, but Gable has power over these easily influenced refs.

It's a really tough call, if he hadn't had his arm around the head like he did, it would have for sure been a takedown, NO two.

Good match!Sunderland always has in control, and the attacks of Steiner are always predictable, but at the end wins his desperation!
