This is actually one of the maybe 12-15 Canuck goals that I will never forget. This goal put us into the playoffs for the first time in what must've been 5 or so years, which is an eternity in Vancouver, throw in the fact that the Keenan-Messier combo was here for three of those years, made it a living hell for Vancouver hockey fans.
@Kamjared sorry dude ur wrong about that. both phx n van finished that year with 90 points. but nucks had 36 wins compare to yotes 35. if druken didnt score, phx would made it because they have a better record.
watching this just brought goosebump....i remember i followed the Canucks since 1993...through ups and downs after that 1994 Stanley cup...1996 Bure fall out and the horrible 97,98,99,00 (remember that last game against Edmonton, when they made that huge run down the stretch, and failed at the last game)...then 2001 vs Detroit .. with the hair dyed blond...I forgot who they were :D

I remember bawling like a 13 year old girl hahaha it was the first time my emotions were just overwhelmed, seeing Crawford jump up and down and just the way it happened, it was like slow motion, this surpasses Cooke's goal with 2 seconds left for me.
I taped this game while we watched it...when this goal is scored the tape starts skipping because we were all jumping around so much that we knocked the vcr.
This was around the time the Canucks turned into a club that would win much more often than lose. Since 03/04 only 7 teams have won more times than the Canucks. Thats a fact.
I'm a huge Canucks fan, but please, don't compare this moment to anything that happened in 1994. Harold Druken scores an OT goal just to get into the playoffs. Give me a break. Obviously you didn't live through the heart wrenching spring of 1994.
I'll back you on that man, I remember 94 it was amazing, and I remember the loudness on this night. I was screaming, the anticipation throughout the game was shockingly intense, it was a huge build up and when Druken scored it just burst!
Bob wasn't really that back-up at that point. Potvin had been traded to the kings earlier in the year, so Bob was the No.1 and Cloutier was his back-up.
At that point, I think Essensa and Cloutier were pretty much splitting the duties evenly. They had it in mind that Cloutier was probably going to be the number one goalie the next year, though. In the playoffs, they both played 2 games (it was a sweep vs Colorado).
They had to win the game to make the playoffs. Winning the game in overtime made the playoffs for them. Had they tied or lost the Nucks wouldn't of made the playoffs.
ahaha look at the little baby sedins.
who would've predicted Henrik would be Captain??

@Kamjared I remember that game, they won it and there was still 5 minutes to go between Phoenix and San Jose, San Jose won their game 2-0.

This was pretty much the same situation as 1991 when Courtnall scored in OT in the last game against Winnipeg to get the Canucks into the playoffs.
djob2676 4 years ago
Wasn't it Trevor Linden that scored the OT goal against the Jets?
nflippah19 3 years ago
Courtnall deflected Linden's shot. At first, Jim Robson announced that Linded scored: "Trevor Linden! Courtnall may have deflected it!"

why would we put a backup goalie in such a important game ?

Exactly. A tie would have meant the Coyotes would have ended up with the 8th seed.
