Semi-off-topic: It's amazing how those unfortunate people born after 1980-85 HAVE NO CONCEPT of a whole family sitting down at dinner and dessert with CANDLES, silverware and coffee from the percolator and no plastic/throwaway crap anywhere.No joke, even without Carvel -this was how civilized America was at home.
What's even funnier about this ad is that they were ALWAYS on WPIX, which is a New York City-area station (the tape I got this from was taped from WPIX!). They were a staple of Saturday afternoons.
My mom hates these ads - I tell her every year I'm getting her a Cookiepuss and Fudgie the Whale for her birthday, and she says to return them if I did!!
I don't know where you live, but if it's still in the North-East, there's a "store locater" on the Carvel website, that surprised me, by showing that there are still Carvel stores within 5-10 miles of where I grew up.
PS: I read your article, and watched your excellent, "Commercial Extravaganza". Boy, did that bring back some memories!
I also get the feeling that your Thanksgivings were far better than the yearly tension-filled, family nightmare ours were. *L*
@skeilak - I live at the Jersey shore, in Atlantic County...we don't have any in this area that I'm aware of. Ours have always been pretty good, but no Tom the Turkey lol!!!

"I'M TOM CARVELL, AND HAVE A GREAT HOLIDAY!"

Why the hate? There's goodwill and ice cream involved!
I'd just buy one to see if she went through with that. Once sugary sweets enter the house, the protesting might taper off...

She says Cookiepuss and Fudgie are creeepy!!!
No, she'd throw it out, so I say, why waste good ice cream? :-D

Carvel was big in Philly too, just like Kiddie City

Carvel Ice cream is good - I used to get it in Manahawkin, NJ. It was based in NY, and these commercials used to air frequently on NYC stations.

@AllisonTheSNLGuru :
Every now and then, my parents used to take my sister and I, to the Carvel in Shrewsbury, NJ. The ice cream was better than the Dairy Queen.
Tom Carvel's voice, and these commercials are as ingrained in my memory as, "Crazy Eddie" and "Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge".
