that is why i do overhand deadlifts. whats the use doing one over and one under. if you can't pick up 700pounds with double overhand, what is the use.
your only as strong as your weakest link. i admire a guy who picksup 500 pounds with double over hand, more than a guy who does 800 with atlernate grip. (i think it is an ego booster)
why is that. wouldn't it be more impressive if someone did 800 pound double overhand instead of the other way. anyway, not starting an arguement or any name calling. love to here your side.
@alfredtink well I think your incorrectly using the "your only strong as your weakest asset part." When its double overhand its more grip strength, which is only your forearms. Your forearms will never be as strong as your quads/glutes/lower back. Basically your forearms will hold you back from gaining serious overall strength. The strongest powerlifters use mixed + wraps. He only got that tear btw because it was an axel bar.
@alfredtink its because you bent your elbow ever so slightly which placed more tension on the biceps. Flexing the triceps would help. his elbow was bent here.
@RoathRipper dont ice it, if the muscle is detached from the bone and tendon icing it will cause it to shrivel up into the shoulder like a wiener in a cold pool. this complicates the surgery to reattach it.
@RoathRipper Yes don't listen to that crap about no icing .. keep inflammation and swelling down it is the most important thing at that stage of the injury
How To Treat a Pulled Muscle
By Jonathan Cluett, M.D.,
'Ice application helps reduce swelling, bleeding, and pain. Ice application should begin as soon as possible after sustaining a muscle pull. Ice applications can be done frequently, but should not be done for more than 15 minutes at a time"
@loldudeno torn tendons gets the same treatment as torn muscles ice and anti-inflammatory after a few days either rehab for a partial tear or surgery for full tear
The thick bars are for training, not for pushing yourself to the max. Is different to do 6 or 8 reps with 70% of your max weight with a thick bar, than just 1 rep with your max or near max weight. Althought it was also bad luck, and as the other guy said, deadlifts must always be taken very seriously.
wow yeah I can tell deffintely what happened was he did not lock out the biceps first and then drive from the Hips + LEgs ... he tried to help the legs by shruggin the bar up with his bicep.... .... bicep tear ... sucks man!
Yet so many magazines tell you to use a staggered grip while deadlifting because it increases grip strength.. Anyone who reads Muscle&Fitness or Flex or other Weider crap know what I'm talking about
have u noticed that those who use their left hand as an under grip in mixed grip r the ones who have torn biceps?
most if not all youtube videos of torn biceps happen to left hand under grip, on the other hand no videos of people who use their right hand as an under grip.
first i thought it's a coincidence or the left hand under grip is more common then i saw most of the top dead lifters use there right hand. can any one explain why?
@ahmadx05 Left hand under grip is generally more common I believe because when many people start out deadlifting, they use the weaker grip hand (typically left) in the undergrip as the undergrip taxes the grip less. Over time they get used to it so they permanently pull right over left under (ROLU)... I think ROLU is more commonly used so therefore more tears are observed.
Meanwhile, the man who holds the current DL world record uses a ROLU, as do quite a few top PL.
@travisbucket56 another great comment right there , its because his arm was not fully straight !! it even says in the video , people lift much much more than this with no problems doing it correctly , the bar is well to think like he says IN THE VIDEO
@mzrealm ....yeah you clearly know alot dont you , if thats the one he fucked up when trying to lift it , then thats the one which would be used next time he tries to lift it , use your fucking brain
@whatugundo I was just joking dude no need to get so angry, obviously lifting again would only further worsen his injury. I meant it in an encouraging way to credit his perseverence despite his injury.
@46Imthebest never ice a torn bicep as it causes it to contract and retract up into your shoulder. This will make it harder to reattach. If you had a clue you would know this.
I never use the alternating grip. That is what causes bicep tears on the deadlift. I always use double overhand to prevent this injury. I think all thick bar deadlifts should be done double overhand............thick bars are to test lower arm strength. The double overhand is perfect.
@burinec WHY IS THIS THE TOP COMMENT? You dont ice an injury like this. LOL, find out for yourself when the dr says the muscle retracted all the way up to the shoulder and will be harder to fix.
@nikolatesla08 It's a top comment because he's making fun of the guy in the background of the video who says, "Get some ice". And actually you DO ice any soft tissue injury as soon as possible, whenever possible. The ice is to reduce the inflammation & swelling that is definitely going to occur after a soft tissue injury like a sprain, strain or tear.
ahh shit, if anyone else does this do NOT PUT ICE ON IT!!!! ice will cause the bicep to contract more up into your arm, and seriously, you don't want that after tearing a tendon
Yikes, that was terrible. For example. A 150 pound axle can be harder than a 150 pound barbell because the grip handle on the axle is thicker. That's no wonder he tore his bicep. Any injury would fucking suck
Ouch, ouch, ouch! Poor guy, he's gonna' be out of commission for a long time. If you look carefully, his arms weren't totally straight in the beginning of the lift. So.... unfortunate, but that's what happened.
@yungjock23 i had the same injury when i was boxing a week ago. my biceps are very long and thick but after the injury... its very short(right arm) i dont want this shit. what do you think?what about your biceps? was it ok when the injury was gone?
Can someone please confirm once and for all whether it is right or wrong to ice the bicep after a tear?
