  • @axemanand, I just saw your other two videos showing how to do it. This is really cool. Now we'll see how my wife and neighbors like it when I pull out the guitar I haven't touched in about 15 years and start learning this solo! This one has always been a favorite of mine. I can't wait! Thanks!!!

  • Thanks. I might redo it when I get chance and zoom in a bit more

  • you nailed it. well done

  • Thanks alot!

  • Hi, i always loved this solo, didn't know it was SRV for long. He was one of the best....

Do you play on original pick ups? I had a 79 Strat. but not that sound. Now I play a 72 with texas specials and it sounds quite similar

  • Hi. They are the original pickups but I wasn't too keen on the sound. I had them rewound by 'Shed Pickups' and asked for a Stevie Ray kinda tone, very similar to texas specials. He did a great job, it sounds much better now. I even use the bridge pickup now as it sounds great. That's a first for me with strats because I usually hate the bridge tone!

  • Thank you very much for this. I'll work on it and post my video reply in due course! I saw SRV here in Sydney Australia in 1986. I was in the front row leaning against the stage - he was right in front of me - he was even better Live than his recordings , which really says something! I've never heard such a dynamic, spitting, angry and beautiful sound come out of a guitar as i did that night.

  • No probs, I look forward to it.

I am jealous! I would have loved to have seen him live. I have a few dvd's of him and he looked like an amazing live preformer. He was one of a kind for sure.

  • Bravo! You really got the SRV machine-gun sting happening. I'm learning this solo myself. I need help with the run at 28 seconds in your video. The run starts on a high G on the E-string and finishes with D on the D-string (12th fret). Can you share the notes of that run? Thank you. Keep rockin. Q

  • Thanks! That run was the hardest bit to get right.

Starts on the high G, then 12th fret E.

    B string 15 pull off to 12.

Quick bend on the G string 14, bend to a B (16th fret) and back down, then as soon as the string is no longer bent pull off to 12.

The final phrase is on the D string. Quickly pull off from the E note (14) to the G (12). Hope that helps!
