  • "Killer say, 'Drop dead!'" LMAO! Flip ad libbed most of this, too. He was one of that great generation of comedic geniuses that the US, UK and Canada produced back in the 50s, 60s and 70s. There's never been anything like it before or since.

And The Champ is no chump, either; "I thought I could talk, but I've met my match..." LOL! Two Greats at the same time! Television was FUN in those days.

  • i remember watching this show,i loved it so much my parents bought me a flip wilson/ geraldine doll , i am 43, so you can imagine how old this show is

  • that's the original cell phone

  • telaphone pocket book is what they got today lol

  • At first I was like "WHAT!?!" because I thought Flip was going to pull a cell phone out his purse.

  • THE GREATEST, next to Geraldine.....too funny!

  • Awesome!! 'Sugar' Ray Robinson, Oscar De La Hoya & of course, Muhammad Ali ALL had movie-star good looks.

  • Man she had a cell phone in her purse way back in the gap!!! Way ahead of her/his time LMAO!!!

  • What's so funny about this scene is that its way before mobile phones... ha ha ha

  • I love The Flip Wilson Show and Geraldine is my favorite character that Flip did! What a hoot! Too bad tv isn't good like this any more.

  • No one, and I mean no one has a show the quality of the Flip Wison show these days. RIP flip, we miss you. I am watching the reruns today on TV One and it's awesome.

  • RIP Flip, you were way ahead of your time

  • Flip was the greatest!!!

  • This was APPOINTMENT TV back in the day! Every Thursday at 9:00PM PST,we were there an ready for Flip to just floor us all with his fantastic humor and great characters. I just loved the man dearly! His last TV appearance was in the "What Is Hip?" opening of "The Drew Carey Show". it was great to see him,if only for a moment. Rest in Peace,Flip. And thanks for posting, gladteck.

  • @Blackwolff9 You are so sure!! Like clock work every Thursday night!

  • I hate to say this but I had a dress with the same colors in it, that was the style back then and we really thought this was 'fly'. Geraldine was the coolest act on television and this show was highly rated.... I remember this episode with the 'telephone pocket book' hilarious!!!!!! :D

  • I have seen Muhammad Ali a few times. He was the most robust and clean cut guy and really cute. More than that, he is the nicest person. Flip Wilson used to perform at the Regal long ago. He was so hilarious and acted like the women in my neighborhood....he must have really studied them lol :D

  • Ali was out talked and made speechless by geraldine!

  • You know when Flip reached into his purse, I seriously thought he was gonna pull out a cell phone. Then I was like "...oh yea."

  • lol :but don't hurt him cause he is one of us" lol

  • What you see is what you get ...

  • Ali is speakless for once! hahahaha :P

  • Class class......so much better than so called reality tv today.

  • -How do you spell Killer?

-I don't know! Just put a skull and cross bones!

  • So ahead of his time.

  • OMG this is so funny !!!!!!! Flip Wilson is the best comedian of all times!!!!!!!!!

  • " a telephone pocketbook".... wow..... who'd thunk it?

  • @yahshuahdotcom Early cell phone technology.

  • Mobile phone and all!

     Love It

  • i thought I could talk, but I met my match! LOL

Let me call him! LOL a telephone pocketbook!! ...lol

Flip was ahead of his time...!lol God, i loved this show as a kid..

  • Flip was a bad boy. Loook at the original Cell Phone. Ha Ha Ha

  • Flip was one of the best!!

  • I love this

  • man...lot's of innuendo for back then, classic indeed.

  • Flip was so funny, way before his time! All of us suffered a loss when he passed on. I remember sitting in the car with my dad listing to the Liston- Ali fight on the car radio because it came in better in the car than in the house. I'm 58 years old, white and southern , and I doubt there will ever be another heavyweight champ like Muhammed Ali. He really was the greatest! Not all people from the south are racist, Thanks for posting all these clips of Flip, and especially this one!

  • Damn Muhammad Ali was handsome!..I am so in need of a time machine right now...lol

  • Flip Wilson, Milton Berle, and John Belushi were the best drag queens ever.

  • The Very first Drag Queen!

  • Muhammad and his cute self! and that phone cracks me up lol

  • grew up watching Flip's show, he was always so funny

  • KILLA SAID, "DROP DEAD!"

  • Flip Wilson was huge in the late 60's. Everybody loved his show and he could kid about serious stuff and have everybody laughing in agreement. It was a good time to be alive if Flip was on the tube.

  • I am 23yrs old and I remember watching this show all the time it used to come on tvland my parents watched it I loved it he was a CLEAN comic I could never watch pryor bc he used profanity all the time but as a child I loved the flip wilson show this is where "the devil made me do it" came 2 life! did you all know that he had 24 siblings WOW!

  • "Dont hurt him cause he's one of us" lol! I love Flip!

  • Don't fight the feeling!......luv it!

  • God Flip was a funny SOB! Sure brings back memories....

    TV is garbage today

    RIP Flip ;)

  • I've heard the name, but I've never seen Flip Wilson before. They say his show's coming to TVOne in February, so I'm glad I have the channel.

  • I watched his show faithfully. He was indeed a genius. And he quit the show while it was still top rated. Just goes to show, you don't have to be vulgar to have a hit show. This crap they put out today doesn't hold a candle to Flip.

  • "Telephone pocketbook": talk about looking into the future!

  • i luv u flip

  • I've missed "The Flip Wilson Show". This show with "Heavy Weight Boxing Champion" , Muhamad Ali , is a classic. I've missed seeing Flip Wilson on "The Flip Wilson Show" in the 1960's to early 1970's.

  • 1st cell phone LOL, 1st Drag Queen, Too Funny

  • The day Ali met his match, LOL. "I thought I could talk, but I've met my match!" Sparring with Flip Wilson's many characters was always dangerous; he was one of the kings of improv humour.

  • Yes, Flip Wilson was a wonderfully talented comedian. He was able to make everyone laugh without the F word in every sentence.

  • I loved Flip. My aunt would fall on the floor laughing at him when he came on TV.

  • Ali sure had a coolness about him, didn't he? Sad to see him in his debilitated state today.

  • That was such a great show. Flip Wilson was a class act. He had a knack for touching on racial issues only on a comedic plane. RIP Mr. Wilson

  • Thanks for posting! Love the Flip Wilson Show

  • Those were the days, Remembering Flip as a young child. We watched his weekly show, Family would gather around the tube waiting for Geraldine/Killer the best part of the show. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

  • They called him Sweet Chariot (because he was always swinging low). Lol.

  • i can definitely dance to this theme song..:)

  • According to the title, which I should of read before asking who he is lol his name is Flip Wilson. Is he still alive? I can't believe I haven't heard of him.

  • Flip is sadly no longer with us--but it's fantastic to see so many young people meetinghim and getting to know his work through YouTube! You MUST listen to "The Devil Made Me Buy This Dress".

  • No, unfortunately, he's not. he died in 1998.

  • Sadly he's no longer alive, but during the 70s, he was really hot--but not as hat as Geraldine!!! ;-) Seriously, though, he was a great comedian but he had a genuine warm-hearted persona, sort of like if Perry Como was a comedian instead of a singer. Geraldine was sort of an alter-ego where he could tell more hard-edged jokes without spoiling his likeable persona. Flip was one of my favorite comedians of that time and I miss him very much.

  • @ExodusPessoa naw hes dead

  • @ExodusPessoa Sorry to inform you that Flip passed away a few years back. RIP....Flip. The GREATEST!!!!

  • I'm 28 years old and this is the first time I've seen this. Yo this guy is hilarious who is he?

  • You wouldnt know this, at 28 youre too young. Im 47 and I remember watching Flip Wilson in the early to mid-70's. he was a popular comedian of the time, and Geraldine was one of the characters he did on his weekly show on TV.

  • @ExodusPessoa

This is Flip Wilson, an extremely popular comedian in the 1970s and 1980s. Wow, you are really young because Wilson's TV show was in the top ten for over a decade!

  • He passed away in the 80tys.

  • Flip Wilson had a variety show of his own. He started on the Ed Sullivan show, I think. We would watch this show every week and it was always funnier then the time before. Us old folks did have some fun way back when....:)

  • @ExodusPessoa Flip Wilson, a very gifted comedian of the 1960s.

  • @ExodusPessoa Hard to believe u don't know who Flip Wilson is. He was absolutely the greatest

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Flip Wilson when he came to Portland Oregon for

    the Hot Air Balloon show.

  • mmm Ali lookin goood

  • This sure brings back some memories, he was a genious and man do I miss his show

    RIP FLIP

  • pass the brown acid

  • Flip is the Innovator for Drag Roles ... I love him , I am LMAO so hard and Telephone Pocket Book - "Cellphone" ... wow , that is way cool.

  • Love, love, love Flip Wilson. The greatest comedian!

  • would that be the first cell phone??

  • this could be on tv now ,,,,i never heard of this ghy before im from england but this is funny man.

  • a month ago your comment awaited approval and i havent signed on for a month since to approve any comments from anyone. sorry for the wait, your comment is approved now.

  • Damn this brought back some memories...I think he was the 1st black man to dress in drag on national tv....as far as male he is the 2nd...that would be Milton Berle...LOL..Now a days its Tyler Perry as Madea.

  • woo hoo, gotta love Madea

  • jamie foxx as wanda..martin lawrence as she-nay-nay...lol

  • A telephone pocketbook...Talking about ahead of his time...Flip Wilson was out there!!!!

  • I remember watching this show with my mom when i was a kid. I loved Geraldine. For Christmas one year I got a Flip Wilson doll...it was made like a pillow. Flip was one one side and Geraldine was on the other side. It had a string you could pull to make it talk. One of the things it said was "The devil made me buy this dress!" Wish I still had it today.

  • toriElena: I had one of those dolls too, and whenever my dad would pull the string I'd scream and cry like a crazy person. I was two years old or something. Finally my mom had to hide it from my dad. I was such a queen.

  • A telephone pocketbook!

HA! HA! Prophetic! Here comes the cell phone.

  • Greatest Comedy Show ever... absolutely hilarious and very cleverly executed... leaves you feeling soo good! (Flip invented the Cellphone...)!!! What incredible foresight and innovation!!! This show used to be so wonderful to wake up to on weekends... I wish TVLAND would rebroadcast....it is a show which will always be enjoyed by all regardless of age... RIP great one!!!

  • Our family used to love this show, we especially liked it when Geraldine was on. He (she?) looked pretty good! Muhammad Ali was an icon in the 1960s & 1970s. He has Parkinson's Disease now, doesn't he? Flip died a few years ago, we didn't hear much about him after his show was off the air, I think he invested his earnings wisely and did well for himself. I heard Muhammad Ali spent all his money. I'm so glad these videos are on YouTube so we can go back in time!

  • ok this is the first cell phone

  • flip wilson was the first black to host their own T.V. show

  • can you show flip wilson on t v again. he was the FUNNNIEST MAN AO EARTH THEN

  • Michelle Obama....lmaof!

  • Michelle Obama only wished she looked so good. LOL!!

    Mr. Ali was soooo handsome.

  • Mrs. Obama looks better because she's a real woman.

  • my gram used to watch this show

  • Wow,I haven't seen Flip Wilson in YEARS. I used 2 watch this all the time. Flip has some killer ass legs. I know a lady that act just Geraldine. She always cracks me up. And Muhammad, well he's just HANDSOME as ever in that fly suit. Now,that's a REAL MAN.

  • Oh! I just love this man!! Just a great comedian!!

  • hahaaaaaaaa cell phones before they were even out!!!!!!!!!!

  • That's probably where the cell phone companies got the idea from!

  • OMG Muhammed Ali was so tall and handsome and such a gentleman! Such a nice character and lovely image!

  • Ali was so handsome

  • something you don't see anymore-a gentleman. in and out of the ring, Ali carried himself with class and humility, even when being attacked and ridiculed for his beliefs. a true champion for all time.

  • humility? did someone change the definition of humility? Ali's most famous line is "I am the Greatest!", calling yourself the greatest in your profession isn't exactly being modest. He was a gentlemen in this clip and a great boxer but I have to disagree with your class and humility comment.

  • they don't make em like that anymore. We don't have any heroes even close to these two giants.

  • Classic! Excellent! Hilarious. His passing has left a void of quality entertainment and life-long memories forever to be cherished.

  • Ali was sooooooooooooooo sexy! I'm droolin' lol!

  • my favorite part is the music at the end. Ali rocks.

  • OMG THE BEST SHOW

  • little did they know the telephone pocketbook was soon to come

  • Flip Wilson , made me laugh so hard ... Classic Comedian at his Finest!!!

  • Now this is talent. No foul language 2 get a laugh. A black man not selling out himself nor people like him by saying the n-word. True talent.

  • PRICELESS!!!!

  • legendary

  • Could this be where the invention of the cell phone came from - lol

  • Lol...telephone in a pocketbook...Who would have thought it! Now adays if theres not a telephone in your purse people look at you some kind of way.

  • I always thought the phone would be intergrated via the wrist watch, ala 'Dick Tracey'. We'll have to see what happens. :)

  • Is that something? You're absolutely right!

  • Thank you for the memories and sharing!

  • Flip Wilson...Friggin classic!

  • Geraldine sez, "What you SEE is what you GET, Honey. WOOOO!" LOL! Flip knew how to make it funny AND clean at the same time! Rare for comedians these days, unfortunately!

  • Flip Wilson, the greatest comedian of-all-time, honey!!!!

  • Respect to both of these guys (I guess). But this just has NOT dated well (pardon the pun).

  • Ali is the greatest of all time. He is a legend.

  • Muhammad Ali was fine as hell back in the day!

'His mama named him Clay, I'ma call him Clay'

---from the movie 'Coming to America'

  • Ahahahaha. Well, now we know the truth about ol' Flip. Those women's cloths really came out of his own closet!

  • Actually, they came out of YOURS.

  • That's NOT nice!

  • I love it when Flip does Geraldine! R.I.P., Flip. Keep up the good job!

  • Great great stuff! Thanks for posting it.

  • Flip made Geraldine seem like a real person. He was awesome.

  • good lord...they dont make shows like that anymore!

  • Yeah, kind of sad, ain't it? Stuff the whole family can watch! Flip was awesome! He used to crack us up everytime we watched him! Would've LOVED to have seen him live!!! ; )

  • when is this from?

  • A better time.

  • robtran:

    Great answer!!!!!

  • love this show:)

  • I've never seen Ali so quiet!

  • flip was before his time.

some of martin lawrence style of comedy reminds me of flip as well

    great talent

  • Geraldine was ahead of her time; she had a cell phone! ;-)

  • I am absolutely crazy about Flip's shows, esp. his Geraldine character. Thank you for posting. And I love when he plays the minister. Thanks again - going right to my favorites!

  • lol now that was funny.. 5/5

  • This needs to come out on DVD...

  • Check Ebay and Amazon for already released Flip Wilson DVD's.

  • @gladteck I got some good flip wilson Lps, ;-)

  • this is great! thank you.

  • WOW awesome loved it brought back good old memories

  • I used to love this show on Thursday night in the early 70's when i was a young boy. I seem to remember Ironside was next..the beginning of that show scared the hell out of me..i could not watch it

  • This was fun to watch! I barely remember watching this show on tv, but it's nice to be able to see clips from the Flip Wilson Show. Thanks for sharing!

  • Took 15 years before pulling a phone out of a pocketbook to make a 'mobile' call becomes reality!

  • More like 30

  • this is what comendy should be like now a days. this tame to todays standards.

  • When Flip got into character he really embodied the role. Whether he performed as Geraldine, Reverand Leroy or any of his various characters, he was absolutely priceless. Muhammed Ali was the greatest in boxing--and Flip was the greatest in sketch comedy. At least that's my opinion.

  • i agree !!!!
