There are far more deaths of women from pregnancy than abortions: Pregnancy-related deaths were caused by peripartum cardiomyopathy, preeclampsia, HELLP syndrome, fatty liver of pregnancy, and amniotic fluid emboli, whereas deaths in the nonpregnancy-related category included pulmonary thromboemboli, infection, drug reaction, and aortic dissection. Make no bones about it: Pregnancy HAS its risks, much more than abortion!

The maternal mortality rate in the U.S. is the highest it has been in decades, according to statistics released this week by CDC's National Center for Health Statistics, the AP/Washington Post reports. According to the figures, the U.S. maternal mortality rate was 13 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2004.
