I love this bike. It is awesome! What did you do for the rear turn signals? Did you have to cut them or do they come apart to get them so close to the arm? I plan on modifying my own 48 and will defiantly take a page or two from your book. Great job!
Thanks Man. I took the original rear turnsignals and just removed the arms. Then I ran a bolt thru the inside of the fender struts right into the old turn signal housings without the arms. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good Building.
I originally replaced the belt to a chain to make room for the larger rear tire and the old school looks but after installing it, I love it. Bike runs great and no issues with the final drive at all. Thanks
Cool, I mainly just wanted to know if I could keep everything stock and just get a new rim, tire and spacers. Thanks for the info and again, very nice ride!
@KWagner983 Did you have to change the front pulley to an offset pulley? Since you went chain I would imagine that's the case..but I'm wondering if you would have to if you stayed belt. Just wondering if I could keep everything stock other than changing the spacers and rim to accommodate a 180 tire...BTW, heck of a nice ride you got there. Did you notice a decrease in handling with the fatter tire?
@sporty4t8 The front pulley/gear is not an offset. Just a standard chain conversion kit. Penn Jersey has them. The original front belt gear is hard to get off. Remember its reverse threads and you need an impact/air gun to remove it. The new gear goes on easily. It handles a bit different in the turns but still hugs them good. Thanks for the compliment. Any questions, just ask or give Jack a call at Penn Jersey. He is awesome at doing these.
Thanks.Very nice bike stock also. The wide front tire is a nice addition to a sportster and makes it very stable in the turns. I bought this to have a new bike to modify and play with. I still have a few things to change like the seat ect. I also have an Ultra so thats my main ride for the long open road. The only problem with the 48 is the gas tank is small so long rides require more stops for fuel. Good Luck. Have fun if you get one.
@KWagner983 You might like the look of fat tires on a motorcycle but they DO NOT make them stable in a corner. For years and years Sporster, Triumph, BSA ect. used 4.00 x 18 rear and 3.50 x 19 front and they handled great. I replaced a 4.00 x 18 years ago with a Hog wheel and it ruined the handling of a good bike. BUt all the know nothings said i like the way that looks so in 1979 Harley gave it to them. To hell with handling
@themaxrlder What does POS mean? I though when i bought a motorcycle, that i was buying transportation, not a life style, a look, a painting, an art form or a penis extender!
@themaxrlder If you want to go after the enemy, you go where he is! Damn it's bad enough to go to a bike meet and listen to those asshole Harley riders stand around and tell each other how wonderful they are! Years ago they couldn't get away with that shit because the Triumph, BSA, Norton guys would put them in their place. Now we are so outnumbered we just have to ignore them or leave
@themaxrlder mrjimmy 1437 you my friend are just a hater, you say you have a vmax hand a honda and a 1000z1. why on all the videos you made comment 11 out of 13 you bad mouth harleys and the riders .and you only have harley videos .? no... v max
, honda,,or Yamaha ... iif i love jap bikes i would be looking at them videos . not the harley videos
@MrJimmy1437 Harley engineers came over to set up the factory and show their Japanese partners how to build bikes. With Harley providing the know-how and Sankyo providing the financing, the first real motorcycle factory in Japan was built in Shinagawa, and went into full production in early 1935.
It looks fantastic, very nice what you have done, only one comment - after all that work and you kept the same foot pegs? I dont want to mod mine too much, just some paint but the main thing is to change the pegs as I think they look very cheap stock.
hey man nice ride, is that a stock 48 seat? also where did you get the chain conversion? i found one from led sled, doesn't look as beefy as yours though.. thanks -mike
Thanks, Yes stock seat. Im going to change it over winter. I did get the chain conversion from my wife as a gift. She got it from Led Sled so its the same one your looking at. Everything else I got from Pen Jersey. Jack at Penn Jerseys may be able to get it for you cheaper than sleds. His number and e-mail is on my video.
I have no idea why any e-mails to me would be rejected. I understand you dont like this bike, thats fine, we all have different rides we like and dont like. My question for you is, If you dont like the bike, why do you keep coming back to my video.
@KWagner983 I keep returning to these sites as a protest. When about twenty years ago the majority of american riders decided that they no longer wanted performance bikes, but want garage candy. Bikes that are totally impractical for anything but looking at! I have set back in dismay, and watch smooth, fast four cyclinder bikes collect dust in the showroom, while antique v twins fly out the door
I know what you mean. I used to love twisting the throttle on a nice 4 cyl race bike. Im just too old for that now and I never was any good at it so why kill myself. I know my limits at my age. Now I really ride the touring baggers. This bike was just something I wanted to do to keep busy and I always wanted a bobber. I also have an 08 Ultra for the road. I only ride this one around town. It was much cheaper to build than a fat tire chopper or a 69 pro street camaro.
@KWagner983 The quality of the workmanship looks very good. I have a yamaha fjr 1300 for high speed touring and a v-max for goofing around. I think it would be fun to restore a 68-69 Triumph Bonneville. Perhaps i could recapture some of my misspent youth
Nice. Thanks. I always wanted a V-Max. Never had the chance to buy or even ride one but they always turned my head when one went by. Funny you say that about the Triumph. If I find one at a good price Im looking to build one as my next project.I just have to make the room to build it. I see a ton of nice ones at the shows around town, but Im looking for one that needs a good factory stock re-build.
@KWagner983 wrote em an email , no answer, i think nomore nowhere ;( searched everything and everybody, .....i think they produced just 2pairs , one for the show and yours.............found just a pair of chrome but i want that blaccccckkkkkkkkkkk!!!
I think Martin Bros went out of business so if you really want these pipes, I would buy the chrome ones and have them ceramic coated black. Good Luck.
Beautiful, always loved this low sleek look. Now i know what kind of bike i want looks amazing and it sounds like a beast, bravo to those who helped creating this piece of art.
I never figured out the cost but I would guess between 2 and 3 grand. You would have to call Jack at Penn Jersey for a price on the parts. It depends on the year of your bike.
This question has maybe already asked to you > Where did you buy your turn signals ? Online, in a shop... ? Thanks a lot and congratulations for your bike !
Both front and rear turnsignals are stock. I just removed the extention arms on the rear ones and Im about to do the same to the front signals also.Just waiting for them to come back from powder coating.
@cubo714 Yes, I agree. I am going to have the seat done in leather just not sure what I want to do with it yet. I was going to go with an all steel, black seat but we'll see. I got tired of working on it and wanted to ride it for awhile before any more changes Thanks.
Awesome looking 48, how did you guys do the rear wheel? You mentioned that it is a 5" rear on the stock swing arm, really like to know how it all works...............looks F#$KING amazing!!
Thanks. I'm am thing about converting it from Fuel Injection to a carb but it looks like it would be a total re-wire of the bike so it will probably stay this way.
