This is hilarious, it looks like the worst movie possible! Imagine watching it like in the movies and noone knows what to expect and it's just 2 people eating at a restaurant
@fishandfestival this was all an act, he had to appear like the bad guy, the villan, its the whole idea, the girls are actors and he is acting here too, the whole thing is staged and so was his career and how he was, more than likely he was a great guy who loved and respected women, this is all for affect, have you seen the film, man on the moon?
@JerryMichaelGriffin I did see "Man on the Moon"...For the most part, when it was just Blassie and Andy talking, he seemed natural and like his true self, but I know that there are staged parts of this stunt...I think what Andy did to Blassie was bad because Blassie's private remarks were made public...We all say things in private that we'd never say in public...That waitress must've felt bad when she heard what Blassie said about her unborn child being "another one that we'll have to support."
@fishandfestival I think people still don't understand andy or this 30 years on. if you look at the end of the film in the credits, the girls are actresses, the 'fan' is played by bob zmuda, so more than likely the waitress is another actress too, she is more than likely not called pim never mind preganant, i don't know much about wrestling but i do know those guys are actors as well as athletes they create these personas and fueds to get people interested and it must work because its popular...
@fishandfestival If this film was about blassie and kaufman, kaufman who was famous like you see in man on the moon for everything being an illusion like his fueds and the things he said about the south and lawler, and fred blassie who was the famous bad guy, these two together couldnt have been about them sat there talking nice and respecting the people around them, 1, it would have been boring, 2 it would have blown the character blassie would have created for himself
@fishandfestival So what i'm saying is., of course it seems natural they are both actors, the reaction of anger and belief by the viewer is exactly what they wanted, like trailer park boys today, those actors never come out of character, blassie is no different the reak blassie and the one he shows the world im sure was very different, remember man on the moon....it's all an act
@JerryMichaelGriffin So what you're saying is that Blassie was in on this joke?...If that's the case, then what would be the purpose?...To fool the audience that Andy pulled one over on Blassie, when in reality, it's the audience that he pulled one over on?
@fishandfestival i don't know if it was really about pulling one over on anyone, it's just hilarious, i think thats the purpose just being funny, blassie at times is acting, talking over andy saying grace, wiping his hands when the girls come near him, he seems to be doing and saying things over the top for comedic effect,so i dont think he was fooling anyone, it just to me seems like two guys having breakfast, some is ad lib some is scripted, i have the dvd and the commentary also says that too
@JerryMichaelGriffin I don't agree with you...I don't think Blassie knew anything about what was going on...If he did, then there would be no hidden element through which the audience could wait with bated breath to see and hear what would happen next..For a bit like this to work, someone has to be tricked and someone has to be tricked and someone has to do the tricking..It doesn't work if Blassie was in on what was going on...If you are right though, then I don't see the sense in what Andy did.
@fishandfestival interesting, I have the dvd and the commentary explains it took 5 hours of shooting to get less than an hour, the end credits explain that the film had writers, so during this 5 hours there must have been a script for at least parts of it, and if there was take after take perhaps on something like the fan being sick on the table to get a better reaction or to do it better surely that would tell blassie it was staged and of course he would have to react again and again.
@fishandfestival i dont think blassie was such a bad guy, he seems to over do the sexism for affect, just like andy does, i always thought of it like other comedies and its just there as funny, no one needs to be fooled or maybe just the viewer, but compared to the predictable rubbish on tv today its pretty cool 20 years on we are still discussing this and not 100% sure!
@velveetaslingshot I hope you're joking with that comment. Both Kaufman and Blassie were actually ACTING in this. In fact that female "autograph seeker" was actually Andy's girlfriend.
I would have breakfast with Kaufman. Someday I will film myself having a take-out Denny's breakfast while sitting cross-legged on Andy's grave. And then I'll post it on YouTube with a moving narration and whimsical score.
is this scripted or real?

So far I've heard Blassie refer to people as "dingalings", "pencil-neck geeks" and "bird brain"...He sure had a way with words.
