Definitely the pinnacle and the last word of a supercar. Even today's modern supercars still have to look up to the McLaren F1, and even along with McLaren's new MP4-12C has nothing on its bigger and older sister.
Having said that, the Bugatti Veyron may be faster, and powered through forced induction and an all-wheel drive powertrain, but the fact remains, the F1 is the most powerful naturally aspirated, 2-wheel drive rear-wheeled car, in the world. A true drivers car.

The car doesn't have paddle shift because back in 1992, paddle shift was only in its infancy in the McLaren Formula 1 team. It would break every 2 minuets if they fitted semi automatic transmission on the F1. and it would probably have doubled the price.

@McLarenMercedes sure, Enzo said it! but still, i don't like the design of this car aesthetically speeching (too much aerodynamics?). It's cramped, and with 3 guys like Leno inside the chin break the windglass. The best part of the car by far is the bmw motor, if wasn't this great great motor 10 years ahead its time nobody talks about it. And there is the ecstasy of gold of course.
Great video. I met Jay Leno outside his comedy club in Hermosa Beach, The Comedy & Magic Club, one night as he was getting into his Audi R8. He was extremely nice and down to earth. He signed an autograph and posed for a photo with us. I was very impressed, plus he has great taste in cars.
If I owned an F1 I wouldn't even drive it until it's warmed up for about 10 mins or so, depending on the weather. Jay said to not give it any throttle 'til that red light is off but I wouldn't even drive it 'til it's off, and nicely warmed up.
@PentruRasaAlba Letting the engine idle for 10 minutes or driving slowly for 10 minutes makes no difference to the longevity of the engine. However by not driving it whilst the engine warms up the brakes, gearbox oil, tyres all stay cold.... waste of time in my opinion.
Normally you might feel jealous or some sort of hatred for someone with an F1 but you can't feel that way about Jay Leno. You can tell he really loves his cars and he's living the dream... The Bastard!!!

You can controll the power of the car more with a clutch and stick than with paddle shifters. Plus there is a lot of ppl out there who dont know how to drive a stick shift, which is another reason y car companys are installing paddle shifters over standard transmissions

it seems alot of sports cars from the early 90's dont look dated. Look at the 300zx, supra, nsx, 3000gt, rx7 they all look pretty modern. Although none compare to the mclaren

@67ShelbyMustang500 you make it sound like shifting gears with a stick is like benching 400+ pounds, lol. Paddle shifters are used more now b/c it is impossible for a human to shift faster.

@loudblazer nah it aint that and ya sure paddle shifters are quicker but it aint as fun as shifting with a stick. You can controll the power of the car more with a clutch and stick than with paddle shifters. Plus there is a lot of ppl out there who dont know how to drive a stick shift, which is another reason y car companys are installing paddle shifters over standard transmissions

@loudblazer Paddle shifters are nice but come on man a good old stick is better, nothing like throwing that stick around and having that racer feel. Paddle shifters are for sissies. James bond or steve mcqueen never used those gimpy things.

it seems alot of sports cars from the early 90's dont look dated. Look at the 300zx, supra, nsx, 3000gt, rx7 they all look pretty modern. Although none compare to the mclaren

Jay's a true gearhead and I say more power to him for having such a huge and diverse collection. Much more interesting and meaningful collection than all these musicians and athletes who just have a couple Continental GTs and Murcielagos fitted with tasteless custom wheels and LCD tvs inside.

hey, ever heard about the story where Jay was taking his Mclaren out, and there were these 2 gang members there looking at his Mclaren, and Jay says, wanna go for a ride...and they say sure, and they gang people say, go up to these mountains, there's no traffic there...and Jays nervously says sure, so Jay goes through this tunnel at about 125 mph, and these cops see them and stop them...(haha) and then the cop said, do you realize how fast you were going...and the gang said its ok were cops
