The copmpetition is always lower. You first have to beleive your product is worth buying. I have never bought anything because it was cheaper. I buy what is the best value at that time. If I don't see additional value in the higher priced product, I sure as hell won't buy it. The feature you are selling, better have a benefit for that customer. Ex an $8000 copier better be able to help my business save money, make money, improve my image and be more productive (start up time for example).
@faheeta Wrong! If the customer sees VALUE in buying the exact same product from you, there is no reason you should lose a customer. Show them what YOU bring to the table and it works, even if it's the exact same product.
@abrockfeld Bingo! Exactly right. Speaking as a Consumer (and not a business professional), there's a lot to be said for loyalty. IF I see the value in what you have AND you have treated me well, even if the competition offers a discount...I'm going to buy from you. IF I have to finagle a price down so much that I cannot conduct business as a person of loyalty & integrity, perhaps I can't afford that product/service right now anyway. VALUE trumps discount - we justify what we WANT.
LOL..."chuck on the Heart strings and the Wallet comes poppen right out of that back pocket".!!!

What if the competition has it cheaper? Then you lose a customer for life.
