Hey Jake, I'm trying to build jake-clone grain mill. However, Surplus Center is no longer carrying your motor. (Just got the email from them) Do you have any other recommendations or sources for this motor?
@jakecpunut Well, found this one on Ebay Item # 190510520509 Looks the same and the limited description is close. Downside is the price at $125 shipped!
jake, just wondering if you filled the hopper with grain and tried to start the mill? plan on building a set up like yours. anything you would do different?
@brewyourown4life Yes I filled it the first time I used it and it started just fine.. Normally though I just go ahead and start it and add the grain.. but that motor has plenty of torque to start with it already in there! I honestly don't think I would have done anything different. I use a (i think) 3 gallon bucket upside down and sit a 5 gallon lowes gray bucket on top of it and it works out perfect so there's no need for anything to help keep the dust down or anything.. works great!!
The other thing I'm thinking is that I can recess the motor a bit into the wood top to meet the crusher shaft height instead of lifting the base. Either way I suppose.
Hey Jake, looks good man. I've been really disinterested in motorizing for two reasons... For one, my power source is a drill that I use elsewhere so I feel like I don't have a big unitasker motor waiting for brew day and the other was my dislike for the typical pulley/belt systems most people use. At that motor price, I might be sucked in. I did notice that there's also a 177rpm with 40 inlb torque version of that same motor at the same price. I just wonder if it's a better choice.
@BobbyFromNJ Thanks! I didn't want to fool with pulley's etc myself so I also loved the idea of direct drive.. I did put probably 2 cups of grain in the mill and it started with no problem.. I also did the same amount with some H20 conditioning and no problem starting.. dunno how a full hopper would react but it seems to have plenty of speed and torque! Oh and that little test has all but sold me already on wet milling already! I could see a big difference as you already know!

Nice! The motor page you put in the description is gone now. Can you post the model name and specs please? I know it came with the capacitor.

agezzi1 11 months ago
@agezzi1 5 1/2" long (counting tabs that you hook your wires too) 2 7/8" wide 1 1/2" deep

whatever you do...don't touch the top of that capacitor!!!
I built electrical motors for 11 years and those things will make you wet your pants!!

@bmeyer44 yeah... we use to do that on purpose in electronics class in high school... of course to somebody else and not myself haha

@BobbyFromNJ I looked at doing that and seen a guy at HBT that did that and it looked really neat.. It may be easier that way for sure!
