I could be a CHP SMPV (Specially marked patrol vehicle) used for commercial enforcement. SMPV's have the side markings but no rear markings. The location is I-5 N/B south of Manning Ave (midway between Hwy 198 and Hwy 152) in Fresno County.
If it was a CHP vehicle....even the white ones have California Highway Patrol...in reflective gold posted on the rear of them. That must of been a Kern County Sheriff because there was no markings on the back....county's always have different markings on their squad cars. Oh yeah, by the way...yes, your picking up a signal, so shut the friggin thing up!
haha some local cop hit the yelp or buzzard siren at me because i was pacing him side by side doing 85..i looked at him and downshifted...POS crown vics, only fast thing they have are their radios
CHP cars have roof decals in areas that have copters. CHP has CVPI since GM quit the 9C-1 That CVPI "Polar Bear" or DOT commercial vehicle enforcement or Inland Div. unit. Targeting truck drivers. Upside being hard to see they snag many speeders too. Everything on the car is white, spot lights, push bumbers and grill so they are much harder to detect at distance than the black and white. I have seen these cars in White, Purple and Pink.
your not legally required to move over for someone behind you if your passing people yourself. Now, if that cruiser had his lights + siren on then yeah, you need to move.
If this video was indeed recorded on a California highway or freeway then you are legally required to move into the second lane when any vehicle approaches you from behind while in the first lane regardless of whether or not it is a peace officer.
I could be wrong, but my guess iis that wan't a Highway Patrol car, but rather Kern County Sheriff. The CHP didn't use Crown Victorias, and they never had roof decals.
Pretty much every vehicle in the CHP flett is a Crown Victoria with the exception of special vehicle. And EVERY CHP Unit, except unmarked hve roof numbers, EVERY Unit. This looks like a CHP Commerical Enforcement or K-9 unit.
Intersting. The CHP has front and rear Ka antenna(Stalker Dual). He only had the front one on. The V1 was picking up radar waved bounced off of objects ahead. IF the CHP car had the rear antenna on, the V1 warning would have been just as steady as when he was behind the V1.
Can anybody elaborate in the legality of radar detectors in CA? I don't seem to get a straight story from anyone or from the web.
