  • I read the same thing the first time that I read Johnny's autobiography but it is only a while after that I first heard the song and agreed why the Man in Black himself loved it.

  • i'm gonna post a comment...soon as i can see the keyboard, i got something in my eyes.

  • This song depicts a scene from "The grapes of wrath" by Steinbeck. Fantastic piece of Americana!

  • This may be the only kristofferson song, that i think is better with him singing, instead of Johnny Cash.

  • he has one of the purest vocies and this is the purest song. i love it! He is definately one of the greatest artist/actors ever. This is my fav song by him and on of my favs of all time.

  • this song is the one of most beatiful things i ever heard

  • brilliant songwriter ,great wordsmith

  • R.I.P. Johnny Cash.

  • One of the greatest songwriter's, ever!

I've covered many of his song's.

'In The News' is a powerful song, that didn't get much 'air time.'

    Great song and video!

  • i love listening to Kris singing and playing his guitar. No additional musicians needed.

  • Kris Kristofferson, the comforter of Sinéad O'Connor

    remember Bob´s anniversary

  • what a storyteller..

  • My grandpa was a huge Highwaymen fan and he always played his guitar along with this song. He passed away from cancer in 2007 and we played this song at his funeral. He taught me so much and obviously gave all of his children and grandchildren great knowledge of fantastic music! LOVE YOU PAPA!

  • my aunt was buried Yesterday and this is the song that played as she was lowered..... it will now get me every time i hear it. i can tell already

  • This is so good!

  • Just a great song by a great man!

  • What a great song -- a great tribute to Johnny Cash -- and a tribute to the highwaymen.

  • magic eh my kids sing this with me and i always think of my dad

  • Johnny Cash could not have had a better friend then Kristofferson. Kris has a heart of GOLD!

  • So good as all he has recorded!

  • Does anyone remember this one? Jim Fraser

  • Sure painted a pretty rainbow Kris!

  • Amazing, truly amazing. At 13 I realized what I was missing and gave the 'Old timers' music a try. I've listened to songs like these ever since. Nothing today has as much meaning or power as what Kris and Johnny, Willie and Waylon, And all the other artists from their time. I'd happily go to one of Krises concerts then any new artist. This is coming from a 15 year old.

  • the ratings say it all. undefeated.great song, great performance

  • i swear to god his voice has gotten better as he's gotten older.

  • We all need to look out for each other.

  • This is one of my all time favorite songs..... Kris is just simply an awesome song writer!! I always love to watch him sing this song!! Awesome Awesome!!! Thanks for posting!! *****

  • I bet he wishes Johnny and Waylon were there singin harmony with him

  • @kitki91 unless you're joking about kris' vocal range, pick-up a copy of 'highwaymen' the road goes on forever. waylon, willie, johnny and kris together. they cover a studio version of this song which is very nice. kris' vocals aren't even too bad on this recording. also has 3 or 4 'rockin' c&w tunes. produced by don was, it is their best one.

  • @1skullduggery No i was not joking, i was actually referencing that version of the song when Waylon and Johnny were harmonising with him, i was just saying how he woud have loved them to be there singin with him......so take a chill pill, i'm a huge fan of KK and i love his voice no matter wat anyone else says okay! and i also have the Highwaymen The road goes on forever album just so u know :-)

  • @kitki91 i love his material, as well as his vocals. i own most of his cd's and a few dvd's.you're taking what i said out of context. i'm just so used to hearing people bash his vocal ability. they don't realize he is more of a stylist as opposed to crooner or ballad type singer. i was merely making a comment on what you mentioned. so if it offends you i will not comment to you in the future. so break the prozacs in half & go crawl back under your rock, you pretentious twot!

  • @1skullduggery Ok calm down....i thought you were suggesting that i was saying that his voice is crap............and i'm not a pretentious twot.....but wat did u think i was getting at with my comment?

  • @kitki91 Kris is one of the greatest story tellers of all time. Just sit back and listen to what he is telling you.

  • I LOVE this video! That song is wonderful and Kris Kristofferson is just fantastic!!

  • this song is great recorded and in clips like this, but you really get a feel for it live. i wish i werent the only 16-year-old boy who like kris!

  • your not ;)

  • @JoAqUiNBandit im 14 and i admire him alot since i was little

  • Comment removed

  • I saw Kris play in Pennsylvania a few months ago and it may have been the most emotional performance I've ever witnessed. He puts his heart and soul into every song he plays and is one of the best song writers to ever walk the earth

  • I saw him last winter in newfoundland and i totally agree, such an emotional performance and so intimate...truly one of the greats!!

  • I have been front row at this concert and this vidoe does not do justice to the man or song,...

  • this song sounds even better when you're in the audience listening to it, the emotion that he projects is amazing

  • Who wrote that song? Its amazing!

  • Kris wrote it. It was released on his album "The winning hand"(1982), and he sang it in concert "Live from Austin" 1981. He was inspired by a scene in the movie "The grapes of Wrath" (1940) by John Ford with Henry Fonda. Incredible song, incredible singer-songwriter.

  • @Brokepocket

Kristofferson wrote it about 1981, it is inspired by a theme from John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath and this cut and the one on Kris' Broken Freedom Song album recorded live in San Francisco are the best versions I have heard.

  • My favourite! Thank you!!!
