There is no other place to look, really. If you look outside of yourself, what you perceive is still weighed by what is within you.

the way to enlightenment is to know oneself. If one goes towards enlightenment with the motive of getting "rid" of the self, it is nothing but an expansion in frequency. No different than turning a knob, turning up the volume. It doesn't change the music.
