I was running at mile 23 when they cancelled it! For those who were able to finished CONGRATULATIONS! I felt sad for those who were detoured,Anyone who has trained knows how important is race day. I really enjoyed this experience because we were part of something historical, FIRST TIME EVER the Chicago Marathon is canceled, record high for October, and moreover, the 30th anniversary of the race itself, one of the most important of the world. FEEL PRIDE! THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS! My next race NYC'08!
Me and my sis (mamachops) ran this marathon. It was a very different experience than any other marathon I've run. People that don't run could never understand.
So having the fastest american debut time, having qualified for the olympics and to have finished tenth, and having a PR of 2:06:17 is considered suckish? I totally see your logic there.
My father worked for this bank but in cincinnati. Bank is now part of Bank of America, but the people in chicago just cared about partying. I could see why this happened.
Pure silliness. The human body was not created to tolerate these extremes but if you want to die, do it! I quit this stupidity at the age of 22 when I felt the effects on my knees. My plans were disrupted because of these fools.
Only an ignorant fool, such as yourself, would give up a true passion. Your knee injuries are as a result of insufficient post run stretching, and from many more dense decisions you've made. I've been running PROPERLY for 25 years, and have yet to complain. Take it like a man.
anyone 50 years old should know running on pavement in polluted heat of the city is something waiting to happen, at least you give the paramedics some extra work, man made pavement it is unnatural, thats why runner shoes cost so much to absorb the shock that your body will feel later on in life
our prayers go out to the family of the runner that sadly passed away. this was to be my hubby's first marathon (at the age of 51!) i secretly planned to pace him in at mile 20 (archer-chinatown) marker and bought my own bib and picked up my packet with his at the expo last friday....his 15K Pace 12:41, Half Pace 13:16, TIME Chip Time: Clock: Pace: 13:45. maybe next year?
thank you to the volunteers, fire and ambulance and the spectators who helped out and supplied me/us with their own water and gatorade...as for this video...it is kinda propaganda...it must have been put together by the race organizors..they make it seem like there was plenty of fluids on the course and that it was well organized...anyone who ran it knows the reality...you had to fight to get a cup, let alone something to put in it...it was a war zone out there
You got it right, riotgrrrrl. The runners have the unmitigated gall to criticize the city and complain about the conditions like the world was created around them achieving their "personal best". Were they born ignorant or do they simply choose to be stupid?
I wear a Camelback water hydration pack if the conditions warrant it.
You can run comfortably when you get used to it with 3Litres of whatever fluid you choose and you can take regular sips of water.
Remaining hydrated or partially hydrated is the answer when temperatures soar especially in a long distance event like the marathon.
You may finish slightly slower due to the heat but atleast you will finish the race.

@frankiboy1111
You quite right
Elite athletes peak at around 27-28yrs old but with the 26.2 miles being 80% endurance and 20% pure speed older runners can excell at the distance.
The Masters 70 age group for the marathon is just under 3hrs so it does prove you might loose speed as you get older but not your endurance.

you have to be 18 years old, to run,

If you trained properly, strategically ran the race and had a nutrition plan, then finishing this race was just slightly more dificult.

aahhh i remember the uncontolled muscle spasms like it was yesterday..... oh wait it was yesterday....
during this marathon i drank a beer in public in front of a cop in the first 6 miles and then swore at one at mile 26 for telling me to walk.
